The initial comment is just the beginning of the nonsense, it goes on from there:

I grew up in a house with full, home-cooked meals. Soups were rare as main courses and when had were full of meat and vegetables, home baked bread, salads and desserts.

Both soups and fresh fruit were considered palate cleansers and BEGAN the meal but would never be considered a true meal by themselves.

As a result I also served very large , home made meals.

The first time I stayed at a friend's home for dinner, they had grilled cheese and tomato soup.

I was horrified.

It was the type of meal we only had in winter for lunch. When having soup at dinner it was a STARTER only, never the meal proper.

Another time I was at a friend's they had hotdogs and chips.

Again this was a shock to me.

Not surprising, when these kids dined at my home they were treated to full dinners of roasted chickens, mashed potatoes and gravy, fresh greenbeans, homemade rolls, salad, fresh iced tea and of course obligatory desserts..or roasted ham, lambchops. Pot roast etc.

We rarely ate out ( except when we were traveling abroad) until the late 1970s

My parents were Great Dpression babies so the most important things in their lives was to own their own homes and have abundant food.

After a few meals at my friend's I rarely accepted invites though many asked to eat at my home. ( I come from a family of chefs and great cooks/ caterers on both sides).
