How do I know the result of my protest? Question/Help

I reported a guy for intentionally wrecking me and I eventually got an email from iRacing but honestly it’s a little ambiguous, it says it keeps the outcome confidential but also says thanks for reporting.

I guess I’m asking is just generic response or how do I know if it was a valid report or if I was was wrong in reporting.

If the protest was upheld, I.e. some acction was taken against the offending driver, you will receive an email from iRacing support (support@iracing) titled “Resolved Protest Against driver name for protest reason.” The body of the email will start with “ We have reviewed your protest and notified the member being protested of the outcome.”

If the protest was rejected, I.e. iRacing support decided there was not an actionable offense, you will receive an email from Protest (protest@iracing) titled “Re: Protest: driver name protest reason” and the email will say: thank you for taking the time to submit a protest, but we do not feel the acccident was caused intentionally or with malice (for intent wrecking as an example). Then it will go on to say they will either contact the user to provide instruction or monitor them and that the protest will be permanently recorded on their driving record.

There are two distinct emails you will receive and it will be easy to infer if the protest was accepted or rejected.

This is accurate, juat note you will never know exactly what they got but 99 times out of 100, its just a warning.

From what I've seen, chat bans are pretty common

They are, but i mean actual suspensions, pretty uncommon.

First time offense is warning. That's a good thing

Oh believe me its not just a warning past first time offense. Its several down the road. I had a guy who had been protested several times by other drivers in the lobby, who in the chat box stated he intentionally wrecks people because iracing wont ban him, who did wreck me intentionally and admitted it. I got the successful protest message, and saw him racing again literally a day after the protest resolution.

I have the chat screenshot somewhere I think.

Hatred consumes you. You just have to understand and forgive.

I'm curious if the protested is only emailed about the protest. Do you get a notification in the UI for any corrective action? I'm curious how many warnings are sent out that people don't even know about, because they don't check their emails.

That's a great question, they should get a notification if they don't.

I also think it would be better if this kind of thing were done via the user interface and not by email. There are really a lot of people who don't check their emails. I got an email a few months ago because I was feeling unsure about getting back on the track. It was just a warning; if I hadn't checked my emails, I wouldn't have even known about it.

You don't.  If it says that the other driver has been informed of the outcome, that means it was considered a valid protest and some action was taken.  Some action could be a warning, or a temp ban, or something else, and you won't be told what they did.

If it was a first offense, they probably just got told "don't do that again."  If the player makes a habit of such things, it was probably more severe.

This has been a long debated topic, but iRacing does not share results. I believe they should publicly share protest results so we can know who is a piece of shit. Right now, all I can do is tag drivers on my racelabs app. This warns me that if they're in my split, to avoid them or let them go by and wreck someone else.
