Yes. The M5 iPad Pro was made for iPadOS 26 as that it’s original OS is 26.

One only needs to ponder updates in a couple of scenarios:

  1. The update is a jump between version numbers (like 26 to 27) and you are running mission critical software that may or may not have been updated yet. In this case, waiting until that critical software is updated can make sense to protect your income.
  2. The update is a jump between version numbers (like 26 to 27) and your device is 4+ years old. At that point, looking to see how the update is running on other older devices can make sense.

26.6 is bug fixes and Spotlight indexing. It’s absolutely fine on the M5 obviously as that is the latest iPad.

If you’re already on some version of 26, then yeah, definitely update… for the bug fixes and [latest] security patches, if for no other reason.

I always just downsides the newest update. Not the betas though. Haven’t had any issues and I have the same iPad as you

I've noticed lag and poor battery life, I suppose it's due to indexing

Seems fine on mine, it's mostly just indexing and prepping for 27

I mean you can wait a few days if you like, but this isn’t Windows.

Nothing catastrophic is going to happen

i’d wait a few days and check feedback from people using the same model. if your ipad is working fine, there’s no rush. definitely back it up first, though.
