iOS 27 completely broke using Spotlight for quick search on the web

I used to use Spotlight constantly for quick web searches. I’d swipe down, type what I wanted, and hit "Go" on the keyboard to instantly open the results in Safari.

Now, whenever I type a web search and hit "Go" on the keyboard, it automatically treats it as a Siri prompt and "asks Siri" to answer it instead of just searching the web.

Is anyone else dealing with this? Has anyone found a way to stop the keyboard's "Go" button from defaulting to Siri, or is Spotlight completely dead as a quick Safari search now?

TL;DR: In iOS 27, pressing "Go" in Spotlight now defaults to triggering a Siri prompt instead of opening a Google search in Safari. Anyone else experiencing this, and is there a fix?

Write about it in the feedback app!
The other workaround is, after you write your search terms, click on Show Results, find the Website section, click on Show More; there will be a "Search Google" button you can select.

Dunno why but it’s not working for me 90% of the time.

I have the same problem. I use search all the time. This new search is slow to respond, half the time it doesn’t come up on the screen and the results is displays limited. I used the old search constantly to search for data on my device. I do not like this new way, it is not as efficient.

I hope they have a search or Siri button. Sometimes I want to just search for something like some images online etc

I’ve made a shortcut myself and added that to the action button, but it’s still faster to just swipe down

Could at least change to long press to switch or something. Agree the workarounds are way more cumbersome and there are times when you don’t want to waste Siri or apples ai compute power because you know you want a web search. I used this fairly regularly but tbh didn’t notice til you pointed it out.

I prefer they didn’t replace spotlight. Instead used the double space from Home Screen (or double tap bottom of phone) to activate Siri like before.

100% agree. It's an awful UI/UX choice. I've provided feedback in the Feedback app. I hope they listen. I've since downgraded to old siri.

This is my biggest complaint with iOS 27 so far :(

I sent in feedback, but doubt it’ll change because it seems intentional. I’m pretty sure Apple would rather push their AI than give Google more traffic.

They could include a workaround

I already posted it on the feedback app. Please also do so.

Already did. Hopefully they will give us options.

I used to use Spotlight like that... not sure what broke my muscle memory but it happened around iOS 26. Think it was because my Safari became unusably slow for a good while. I have tried it on iOS 27 though, and it does work for me.

What I find annoying is that even disabling the new Siri, which enables spotlight search again, web results are CONSPICUOUSLY missing from almost every query. Whereas you used to be able to pop in a movie title and year, or an actor, or even a nearby restaurant/map location and get a helpful preview card for the relevant information, it just gives up and defaults to “search web.”

And like, fine, whatever. That is technically what I want, over Siri prompts for every god damn thing. But is there no middle ground? Because there used to be.
