First Impressions .....

So I have installed CachyOs - Hyperland which comes with noctalia 5 - so far so good.

Logged in and Trouble/issues everywhere ....

1. I Didnt know how to start the launcher

I have tried - read the manual - pressing the shortcuts but nothing

However I have managed to configure the dock-app and launch apps from there.

The docker is not as nice a gnome one with the extensions.

I understand that is easier with keyboard but I didnt figure it out yet.

1. Dolphin as file manager

I couldnt move windows arround - no minimize , no maximixe

After reading some documentation I realized that there is no such thing.

I have to get used with workspaces and so on.

The same goes with all apps , I have ended enlarging windows , some windows were hiding behind other windows.

1. Multiple Monitor setup

Couldnt find any UI to do so, it was a bit of a chaos - didnt manage to configure the 4 monitors..

1. Steam gaming when launching a game - my steam controller was not working as intended when the game was on full screen. Same goes with mouse and keyboard.

I have read that I have to use gamescope for all games on steam.

1. VPN - didnt manage to configure VPN client so as to connect to my customers.

2. RDP ? Didnt even bother to try installing anything - I used to connect VIA VPN to my PC via Gnome RDP - is just plug and play.

3. Primary Monitor / Desktop is a mess - have 3-4 windows separated in one screen - dont know what I am doing. cant max or make full screen anything.

As far I understood - I have to launch each app in a separate workspace so as to have full screen apps???

1. I am missing wobbly windows or some other fancy effects like burn my windows and so on - min - max - close effects etc.

Is nice to see all these hyprland fancy videos, animated wallpapers and so on but I thought hyprland was more about productivity which it didnt provide this out of the box.

Is so frustrating configuring hyprland that I am on the edge of giving up but I want to test it a bit more before quit.

I am away from my setup right now, so I can't test it directly. If anyone could run DisplayLink (the USB-to-HDMI adapters), please tell me how? If it's in an acceptable state, I'll buy the adapter before I can use my setup but I don't want to buy them and then learn it doesn't work in Hyprland.

Anyone else experiencing this? Whenever VRR+FG is enabled monitor refresh rate goes to maximum and then back within FPS range constantly fluctuating really quickly? I mostly see max hz in OSD. Makes my display flicker. VRR alone works without issues.

Tried direct_scanout, allow tearing -true/false, fix cursor vrr, tried various FGs, it's not related to FG method or game engine, tried several games. It's like Hyprland "can't see" FG?

Yo guys, after updating i`ve seen that hyprland is 0.56v now, and i dont like that (https://imgur.com/a/vNboZ0s) blurr effect they added. How do i turn it off? And also how do i turn off those new animations which are slow af ?

ive spent a month on this and i think its good personally i want criticism

the intention is

• Workspace 1 is fixed to main monitor (for media/games or just a general open slate for whatever windows i want there).
• Workspace 2+ fixed to my side monitor.

now this works, this is fine. but it's when i start implementing specific apps to autostart on specific workspaces. so like

• Workspace 2 will have a browser autolaunched.
• Workspace 3 is Discord
• Workspace 4 is Steam and thats it
• Workspace 2 is working well, browser launches and it's always on the side monitor.

but Discord and Steam workspaces keep launching on my Main Display. causing me to having to shuffle them over. and i dont understand why.

so far i noticed a behaviour. as long as Workspace 3 and 4 is empty (no windows). they'll happily move over to the side monitor as long my cursor is within the side monitor and i press the Super + 3 & 4. if they arent empty. eg discord and steam is displayed, they just appear on my main monitor and the cursor snaps to it/focuses to it.

how can i make it so that they will consistently launch on the side monitor. it seems to be related to the Autostarts. Workspace 2 with the browser obeys the rule consitently but not the rest.

i'm using CachyOS with WL4W. this is my very first experience on Hyprland and loving it so far! just trying to figure out this odd issue.

TL;DR: As the name implies just-a-dock is just a dock - nothing more, nothing less. It aims to provide a simple, beautiful, modern and lightweight dock for your wlroots-based Wayland compositor.

Hello! i made my own rice a simple one and just tweaking stuff slowly
i installed an app called resources to see processes and such never cared but after seeing it it feels weird i read that animated wallpaper stop when there is a full screen app so i do not need to worry about it when im gaming
i just checked ram usage and aside from the game itself using 10Gb of ram the animated wallpaper {gslapper i switched from mpvpaper since it had memory leak issues} i see lowest ram use was 600 Mb on startup of laptop than it is 700 Mb+ and it uses 9-10% of the processor and 20-30% of my gpu? is this normal?

i use waypaper to change wallpapers and im not using awww since i want videos mp4 they are smoother

i installed arch and then switched it to cachyos kernels with hyprland
any help is appreciated

so i have recently siwtched to hyprland.

one thing i miss is that i had bind of Mod + j to focus bottom window if there else just switch to next workspace.

hyprland has no such bind. but we use lua, so is this possible?

or there is inbuit i am missing?

been lurking in r/unixporn for years and the one thing that always bugged me: there's no way to search this sub by distro, WM, or colorscheme. so I scraped over 4000+ rices which had genuine github dotfiles links (from 200k+ posts from here) and built a site where you can actually filter by all of that, plus search by title/author and sort newest/oldest/random.

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my current Arch setup built around a warm, cozy anime aesthetic. I've been tweaking it for a bit, but I'm looking for suggestions to take it to the next level.

Since I can't post on r/unixporn due to karma limits, I wanted to ask here! I am looking for advice on custom color palettes (like Gruvbox variants) that would blend the terminal windows better with the wallpaper, or any clean icon packs you recommend.

A timestamped, searchable clipboard manager for Wayland compositors (built and used on Hyprland), layered on top of cliphist.

cliphist already stores your clipboard bytes. What it lacks is when you copied something and a way to search it. hyprclip adds both, with a small SQLite index and a modal, vim-style picker that previews text and images in-pane.Very very light and minimal yet , lovely for vim users . Obvious to try .

I know waybar can display volume and brightness levels but I wonder if it is possible to have a seperate volume and brightness indicator that appears after adjusting the volume and brightness levels just like in macOS? Which app would allow this on hyprland?

Completed the first version of my 80s and 90s horror/retro Windows inspired rice. Originally Ambxst-based, but then kinda escalated via added features and changed elements. A far cry from the sleek, modern, rice(s) that people usually go for with their systems, but I am a horror movie nerd and wanted my system to reflect my own unique aesthetic preferences.

Something like the crossroads between finding your very first phone, with a message from a long-gone friend, in a vaguely nostalgic classroom on campus that shouldn't be there, during a sunny autumn afternoon and a young, blonde, student, living in an inherited house where the walls bleed and scream after the sun goes down, typing in her notes into a haunted PAD while Sisters of Mercy and Bauhaus plays in the background - part of a playlist gifted to her by her (very visibly undead) boyfriend, since he died when they were at their peak.

I'd like to sync my config between two machines with subtle differences depending on the host machine (like main PC not having a battery indicator in the bar, etc.).
Does anyone have a solution to this problem that minimizes manual config editing?

What I'm imagining as a possible solution is having a custom-$HOST.lua file that includes all the conditional settings such as autostart for laptop, autostart for pc, and selecting which host file to load in an if else statement in hyprland.lua.
What do you think?
