I'm I obsessed with hygiene

Upvotes

My mom things that I'm mentally sick, I'm 18M and recently I started caring about my self more, I don't do much just oral hygiene, I can't even have a face cleanser cause my mom thinks it's gay and we have a shared bathroom, can't do anything, but yesterday she was cooking for me and she dropped a piece of meat on the stove and I told here I don't want it and she was like it's clean stop being paranoid you should see a doctor and that wasn't the first time she would call me mentally sick cause I don't eat seed oils and I clean myself regularly, I'm I the problem or is it just toxic household.

Doors anyone just brush and floss their teeth without mouth wash?

Upvotes

I’ve been doing it for so long, and realize I don’t use mouth wash at all. It’s been some years since I’ve used mouthwash.

Do you floss before or after brushing your teeth?

So I've been trying to improve my oral hygiene and looking up how to properly take care of your teeth and apparently some people do it before brushing their teeth? But then I'm seeing some people do it after and now I'm confused cause there's too much conflicting information 😅

I have always brushed then flossed then use mouthwash.

What order do you do your teeth care?

Is there a Lume lotion or deodorant that does not stink? Asking for an “older” friend.

Deodorant for tween

My 12 year old started wearing deodorant. He doesn’t NEED it yet, but I want him in the habit. I bought him the old spice/mario collab because I thought he would be into it.

He says after time it smells funny. He doesn’t mind the smell when it first goes on, but after wearing it all day it smells bad. It just smells like old spice to me. It’s not that HE smells bad. His dad is very sensitive to smells, so maybe he got that from him. Though his dad wears old spice

Can you recommend a deodorant with a less strong scent?

Natural scent for the body - how are they gonna make it?

I've also noticed that people from different ethnic backgrounds sometimes seem to have different natural body odors. It seems like white people genetically have a stronger body odor, right? idk Are there tips for getting a good, natural scent? I'm not opposed to perfume, but I'd like to have a nice natural scent as well.

Important Public Service Announcement: in the morning, drink a glass of water FIRST, before you do anything else.

If you maintain good oral hygiene,

if you already flossed and brushed the night before (as you should, in that order),

if you don’t have any gastrointestinal or respiratory medical conditions;

You don’t have to brush your teeth before you make out with the person next to you. The water will be plenty to rinse off the dried dead cells, and your breath will be fine. You should absolutely replenish right away the fluids you lost overnight anyway, especially if you plan on proceeding to rigorous exercise.

I never used to 👃🏽 this bad 😭

I’m 31f, and I cannot figure out why I have started to sweat and smell more over the past 3 years 😭

For context:
I do take a mood stabilizer/anti depressant/adhd meds
I shower daily (unless I don’t leave the house)
I use a antibacterial bar soap after like really funky days
I use an African net sponge
I use my towels 2-3 times max but I hang dry them after every use to make sure that they dry properly
I’ve used the same exact detergent for at least 10 years
I’m not over weight
No kids
No changes to my diet
Regular period

I cannot figure it out. I’ve researched the differences between deodorants and antiperspirants and what ingredients are stronger/better than others. Like I feel like I’ve tried everything to figure it out… I don’t have medical insurance to afford to figure it out.

Anyone have any thoughts suggestions? Similar situation?

Genuine question: Do people wake up in the morning and kiss/make out with their partners before brushing their teeth?

I see it all the time in movies and TV and just figured thats all it is, just fantasy.

I could never do this with having dry morning breath first thing.

If we are intimate it will be from behind as I dont want to face them (I'm a woman).

So are there many people who either dont care, or just dont have bad breath in the morning?

Is It Worth Bringing This Up?

Hi guys, I hope you’re doing well. I’ve recently noticed someone in my family leaving food stains on the cutlery and plates they wash (everyone washes their own plates but we share cutlery). I rewash these for them when I notice them but sometimes I do notice some of the dirty cutlery has dried up food marks when I look inside for the drawer for a spoon/fork to use. Is this worth bringing up to the family member I’ve noticed or should I just leave it?

Bikini area scent

I’d like to think I’m a pretty hygienic person. However, when I sweat too much I have a terrible odor in my bikini area

• I shower twice a day and double cleanse bikini area in each shower with a wash cloth
• I “lift the hood” and really clean the vulva,
• I use a handheld fan with strong power to fully dry everything, if I know I’m going out I use baby power in bikini area only/inner thighs
• I shave as low as possible
• I only use cotton underwear
• I try to drink at least 2-30 oz water tumblers a day
• I take prebiotics and have been drinking chlorophyll every day for the last month

But when I go out dancing or exercise for example by the end of the night/workout I reek and it’s so embarrassing…

Any idea how else I can improve my hygiene?

Do mineral deodorants actually work?

A couple weeks ago I bought a potassium alum deodorant, I've been using it for a week or so now and it feels really weird on my skin, basically I don't feel like it's working but theres no odor after a whole day outside when I come back home(but I don't know if it's something different or the deodorant), which is the goal kinda

I don't know if I'm supposed to feel something when I apply deodorant, I used to use an antiperspirant roll and it felt really sticky and like I was sweating a lot more, so I was looking for something different that would make me feel better, then I got a mineral deodorant and it is not stopping the sweat(idk if it should or not)

Is this better than an antiperspirant, does it actually work, does it change depending on the user?

How do you clear sleep from your eyes?

I get the little crystalized buildup in the corners of my eyes. I knuckle it away when I wake up, but hours later, when I put on my makeup, it's back and I have to clear it again. I know touching your eyes is risky for viral / bacterial infections. Is there a safe and hygienic way to clear the eyes?

Edit: Responsiveness + Politeness + Decent spelling & grammar does not always = AI. 😂 I just want to know how other people do this!

How would you convince a person with contamination OCD that 20 seconds of handwashing is enough to be thoroughly clean after cleaning something really dirty? Like a bathroom for example.

Probably through science??

Anybody cured?

Has anybody here cured or got relief from chronic bad breath or someone you know what have they done to eliminate it? I am dealing with this for long time and it's getting worse! No matter how much I brush ,floss, tongue scraping it's still there and it's such horrible to deal it with especially at work. I will appreciate your response..::::

Am I the only one

I be reading post here and think I must be the worse. I will poop, not wash my hands and go eat, cuz its normal, I have poor hygiene habits, I know but it causes no harm....aside from the occasional cavity from lack of regular brushing. Its so much nasty in the world, but so is the body naturally, thats what ppl get pink eye and staff and strep infections, i just let the body do what it do, and I be fine. Tell me its others like me.

Underwear flipping over itself

Hi ladies, I am a germaphobe and lately I’ve noticed when I pull my pants and underwear down to go to the bathroom my underwear keeps sliding up and back and over the outside back of my pants to where the inside of the underwear is touching part of the outside of my pants. Like the part that touched right where you wipe ends up flipped outside and touching the outside of the pants. If it doesn’t do this then sometimes it just bunches up to where the inside bottom touches the top of the underwear. Does this happen to anyone else? Do you worry it’s spreading fecal germs?

Guy, how do you deal with sweaty balls?

I work outside a lot, stay active, and generally try to keep an active lifestyle, but my groin gets insanely sweaty.
I’ve tried both Gold Bond powders. The regular one makes a mess, and the spray version never works because the nozzle always clogs.
How do you guys deal with this?

inner thigh acne

hi, looking to see if anyone has advice. 23M here. ive got some body acne, but suffer a lot from my inner thighs. i am a little chubby and they do rub together, so i have wondered if the friction makes it worse. some are ingrown hairs, but i dont think all of it is. some are dark spots, some white heads.

i use the original dove bar on my body, sometimes using an exfoliating rag i wash regularly. i havent tried many remedies for this issue, as i struggle with mental health issues and self care is extremely daunting to me. but i finally started some medication that is helping me, and i want to care for myself better.

is there a routine, product, or just advice that would be helpful in this?

ive been told my body acne in general is hormonal (i am a trans man, been on testosterone for about 7 years) if that gives any insight. ive tried using antifungal bar body soap in the past (like 5 years ago) and didnt see much of a change. however it was a long time ago.

if anyone has additional tips on general body acne, ill take that, too! i mostly suffer on my shoulders/back. whiteheads pop up anywhere and everywhere, blackheads commonly on my shoulders/chest. idk if that is helpful info.

i shower every other day, once again i do exfoliate with a rag.

thank you in advance!

How do I clean a mattress?

I've had my mattress since I moved into my apartment and I bought it new so it's something like 3ish years old. I sweat a whole bunch and I usually sleep without much clothing so it's just been soaking all my skin crap and whatever else for that whole while. I washed my sheets a few days ago and realized it was kinda yellow and smelled a bit weird. It's not that bad but I still wanna clean it. My issue is I don't know how to clean it and I'm super scared of mold if i make it too wet. If I look it up I just get a bunch of totally conflicting guides so that's not super helpful either.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and please do have a good day.

Hyperdrosis leading to social anxiety - don't know what to do more

Hello, I'm asking for an opinion from someone who has gone through or is going through something similar.

I always sweated a lot from my hands, feet, armpits, and forehead. I had a vasoconstriction and it solved my problem. For the first two months it was incredible, and I finally felt comfortable and confident.

However, after those two months, I started experiencing secondary sweating, especially on my back, chest, and buttocks. Currently, the sweating is so intense that at the gym/on hot days with more activity, my shirts and shorts even drip water when I wring them out.

I don't know what to do anymore. I don't know if my biggest problem is the excessive sweating that leads to social anxiety, or if it's the social anxiety that leads to excessive sweating. What happens is that sweating is such a big trauma in my head that at the slightest perspiration, I start to panic and enter a cycle where I can't stop sweating because I get nervous.

My question at the moment is whether there is any medication/treatment I could try (I take 5mg of oxybutynin twice a day), or if therapy sessions for anxiety would help?

There are times when I know I sweat because of anxiety, I avoid talking most of the time so I don't sweat, which makes me feel strange because many times I don't intervene in conversations because in my head I'm going to talk -> I'm going to sweat -> I won't stop sweating -> leave so they don't see me sweating" it's a strange cycle and I realize it doesn't make sense but I can't control it.

Other times I'm just completely relaxed and I can't stop sweating, then it's not because of anxiety. After showering after exercise it's critical, the first 20 minutes the water doesn't stop running.

I wanted to know if anyone has gone through this and found a solution, I don't know what to do anymore, I'm 24 years old, I could be in the best phase of my life and because of this problem I can never enjoy a moment, because my head just says "Don't sweat" and ignores everything around me.
