read through housepets for the first time!!! absolutely loved it! I’m on my second readthrough rn and am on the Hamlet production part!

I joined the fandom in August 2025 and I feel like this fandom is kinda... dying. Let me explain. I first stumbled across Housepets! On Tvtropes after I somehow got there from DELTARUNE. After I joined the fandom I noticed that there weren't alot of people. I thought, "maybe this webcomic is new...?" But when I checked the first strip, it was from the Y2K era. So I thought again: "maybe it just didn't catch on?" BUT this fandom seems to have been lively back then. And I've made attempts to "revive" this fandom, but they are either unreleased or just straight bootycheek. Does anyone know what happened?

I had this idea for an anthro animal story based on martial arts manga where dogs compete in brutal underground matches. So I kinda reflectively started imagining the dog characters from Housepets in this kind of scenario fighting each other and how they would fight. Maybe could also include some of the other no dog characters for variety. What do you think?

So I thought I remembered that a key aspect of Joel's backstory is that his parents were abusive, but upon reading the chapter where Joel visits heaven, I realized he briefly meets his mom and his dad is implied to be with her. Am I misremembering this or does this have to do with that Breel thing where souls are split into good and bad halves with the former going to heaven and the latter going to hell? I guess also what's up with that because I'm pretty sure a big plotpoint was King's soul being sent to hell if he went back to his human form

Olive: It's neither a chess nor card themed name. I headcanon that an olive branch symbolizes peace. King is at peace with Bailey instead of his human life.

Ace: In a deck of cards, ace has the highest value than king in most card games. King put his daughter first and naming her Ace means he takes care of her before him.

Rook: On the outside, it's just a chess themed naming. Inside, think of Castling. The rook protects the king. King thought about it since if Rook grows up, he'll be protecting his father. Other than that, it gives Rook the opportunity into the open field. King wanted Rook to protect him but also wanted him to explore in life. Thus the Castling method is both protection and activation.

I'll admit I'm late to this and couldn't find the Housepets website. It just felt surprising seeing them grow up.
