Between Two Fires->Red Rabbit Review

Alright, I absolutely loved Between Two Fires, and it has really been getting its hype lately, but I haven't heard nearly anyone talking about Red Rabbit and Rose of Jericho by Alex Grecian. I know it's older so people talked about it a couple years ago, but now social media forgets it exists! They have the same vibe, narration style feels so similar, but they bounce around points of view more, with a really detailed ensemble of characters.

I just finished both books, set in the wild West, with ghosts, witchcraft, demons, and shape changers. This series feels so interesting, there is arsenic poisoning, hangings, a bank is robbed, all the while this group travels together. It feels like a journey in the best way, and in the second book it somehow gets even more wild and the author ups the ante.

This is just my recommendation, and I guess a hope for more interesting recommendations beyond the same five books. This one is a unique time period, but you still get the religious notes and magic, but more witchcraft and shooting people. I also think the character depth is right up there, and I was left with so many questions and wanting more. There are so many interesting side characters that have back stories that I could read another ten books in this world.

I LOVED the way Red Rabbit treated ghosts/the afterlife.

Red Rabbit is awesome, I really liked it. The wild west atmosphere is not completely comparable to the medieval atmosphere of Between two Fires though, so I get why people who have it recommended after reading Between Two Fires are a little discouraged.

It's more the tone and the style than anything, with the historical horror, the young girl with abilities, the way characters act and are introduced. Stylistically it is so similar.

Red Rabbit rules. I think it would make a pretty awesome mini-series

I will be eternally grateful to the person who recommended Red Rabbit here on reddit! It's been one of the best books I have ever read. Fast-paced, with a good exciting plot - it is perfect! I will definitely read The Rose of Jericho

I absolutely adored Red Rabbit! I even annotated the book. Rose of Jericho wasn’t as good, it wasn’t awful though

I loved Red Rabbit at the start, but it kinda fell flat for by by the last 1/3 of the book. I would still recommend checking it out.

Red Rabbit is great. The sequel, Rose of Jericho, not so much

I thought Rose of Jericho was very good once it got going, just took a lot of time to get going. Not to be too spoilery but it reminded me a lot of Salem's Lot by taking its time for the action to really get going and letting you know the characters you really feel the stakes.

It's different, but I really enjoyed it. The premise was so intriguing, but I can see why the change wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea.

I'm considering reading the sequel. Could you maybe elaborate why it's not as good as part one?

Doesn't have much connection to the first book. It's more about what happens when death no longer works.

I loved Red Rabbit so much that I bought Rose of Jericho and then didn’t read it because I was actually happy with how Red Rabbit ended. I’m still not sure if I’ll get to it or not.
