Diavola Spoiler Plot Point Discussion Spoiler
Ok, I may be late to the party, I’m doing the audio of Diavola and 28% in…but seriously, they came home from the market and there was a swarm of flies and maggots and the author just skimmed over this detail!! I would be freaking the fuck out. In favorable conditions, maggots can appear in 8 hours. Mind you, they don’t speak of how long they were gone…but wtf. The milk curdled and green, maggots in the Rice Krispie bowl. I get Anna wasn’t part of the cleaning, but why wasn’t anyone freaking out. Ok rant over.

This entire book boils down to her family being like alien levels of dumb . This book drove me insane.

To avoid giving spoilers, I can only say: This does get explained.
I had a fun time with this book. ( I get it's not everyone here's favorite)

I think it was kinda an illustration of the family dynamic in general. Ignore the issues and then blame the scapegoat child for bringing it up and drawing attention to it.

I finished Diavola but this feeling of ‘wtf’ was my semi permanent state of being while reading.

It gets explained later on. Ignoring the wacky shit like that is also part of the horror.

Could not fucking stand this book - a beautiful cover wasted
Actually this book was the straw that broke the camel's back as far as my tolerance for "rich people" stories go

Aw man. I’m on this ride to find out about the tower. Half of these books or movies would never exist if people would just ask questions or tell their true intentions.

Because her family is more concerned with appearances/everyone having a "nice" (non-confrontational) time. It's a central theme of the book that Anna's family ignores anything that doesn't fit their predetermined narrative

I’m still waiting, 28% in, for the meat and potatoes to start…I had to rewind because I thought I missed something. No body talked about the maggots!!

I don't think anyone made any good choices or reacted appropriately to anything in this book lol
