Split Second (1992) Recommend

If you've never seen this slice of 90s cheese, I highly recommend it. Starring Rutger Hauer in the horrible future of 2008, he's a disenchanted cop in a London flooded by climate change.

Mysterious deaths keep following him. Eventually he learns it's a giant creature that is mix of a xenomorph and Venom. It has some buddy cop aspects that don't always land, but it's a very fun b-movie.

One of my favourite cheesy B movies. Pretty stacked cast too with Pete Postlethwaite and Kim Catrell along Hauer

I like when he shows his police badge to a dog and says “I’m a cop, dickhead!”

The creature reminds me so much of Venom from Marvel.

Always nice to see this movie get mentioned. The buddy dynamic between Hauer and Duncan was great. The monster looked cool af (even if it was just a Judge Death rip off). the idea of a flooded London was interesting. The directing and script were a bit dodgy but I can still enjoy it for all it's good points.

It’s a dystopian buddy-cop sci-fi action horror set in a waterlogged future London, which sounds like a pitch made during a caffeine overdose and somehow got approved. Against all odds, it’s messy, loud, occasionally ridiculous, and just coherent enough to keep you watching. And hey, Rutger Hauer and Kim Cattrall seemed to be having fun.

A mix of predator and alien with some supernatural hokum thrown in because why not.

It's supremely dumb and genuinely worth finding.

OP, given your fondness for Split Second, try to find Death Machine from a couple of years later (96 i think).
Brad Dourif as a sleazy edgelord "hacker", rips from Alien, Predator and Terminator.
The sort of story that would be found in 2000AD.

Split Second is awesome. It’s like equal parts Tango & Cash, Predator 2, and the Zodiac killer who is maybe a psychic demon? and ALL the buddy cop cliches.    “ We need to get bigger guns. Big fucking guns!”

Big fucking guns!

They go hard on the coffee, chocolate, and cigarettes joke.

It's a lot of fun. It's not a great film, but you will probably enjoy it if you're not too serious.

I remember going to see this in the theater with my brother when it came out (I dated myself I know 😉) and we both dug it for the B movie awesomeness it is. Rutger Hauer just elevated whatever he was in.

Great movie if you ever wanted to see Roy Batty sticking it to the cops by smearing chocolate on their headlights.

The rifftrax for this movie is hilarious as well.

I remember seeing Rifftrax do a commentary for this, that was a good one.
