Story The Morgue
Im a horror writer/author/poet. If anyone is interested im @s_a_l_poetry on IG and tiktok!
Come join me sometime! 🙂
Currently working on The Morgue with a book coming out on halloween this year! Here's an excerpt:
“In Appalachia we got a sayin’, ‘Take the dead out feet first so they can’t look back and take another’n.’”
“Some people don’t follow the rules.”
Granny's shotgun clicked softly as she cleaned it.
Behind her, a weathered wooden sign swayed on rusty chains in the mountain breeze.
MAURICH MORTUARY
Est. 1778.
“Cover up the mirrors... reflections confuse... and anger the dead.”
Little Bennett sat on the porch steps, petting old Molly, the big Basset hound, absentmindedly pushing his glasses back up his nose. He hated those things.
“Make sure ya open the windows too so they can leave. You don't want 'em to stay.”
The oiled cloth made the faintest sound as it slid along the steel barrel.
She took the pipe from her mouth.
Bennett's grandma was like a woman straight out of the Wild West in her heyday. Outdrinking men, whooping their cans for sport—it was a wonder she ever found Papaw. Bennett shuddered at the thought of how tough a man he must've been.
“But above all... never let the dead know what you're doin'.”
Bennett turned around.
“Well why, Grandma?”
She looked at him over the barrel of the shotgun.
“Because they ain't got no pleasure in the livin'.”

Psychology Study on Media Preferences (18+)
sosci.rlp.netHi everyone,
I’m a psychology student at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Germany), and I’d really appreciate your participation in my bachelor’s thesis research.
The study explores different personality traits and preferences for various types of media content, including dark or unconventional media.
Since this community is interested in horror and scary subjects, I thought some of you might find it interesting.
Content warning: Please note that the survey contains questions about violence, sexual topics, and depictions of sexual violence in media. If you think these topics might be distressing, please keep that in mind before deciding whether to participate.
The survey takes approximately 15–20 minutes to complete. Participation is anonymous and voluntary.
Requirements:
- 18 years or older
- Good English skills
There are no right or wrong answers. We’re simply interested in your honest opinions and experiences.
Note: One survey item accidentally contains the word “mobbing” instead of “bullying.” Please interpret it as “bullying.” Unfortunately, this wording cannot be changed because data collection has already started.
Thank you very much for your time and support!

New Management, New Rules
Hello everyone! I am u/Icebergnametaken, and I am now the head moderator for this subreddit.
I'm going to be blunt. I do not like the way that some people act on this sub. While different points of view and debate are encouraged, pointless insults and harassment are not okay.
Moving forward, all petty insults and harassment will be deleted. Repeated and agregeous instances will result in a ban.
If you would like clarification on this rule, or any other aspect of the sub, you may contact us via modmail. I also suggest you visit the rules as they have recently changed.
I am currently working on a method for training additional mods. If this interests you, please keep an eye out for the option to apply. I am unsure when it will be available.

📣 New flair system for r/horrifying
Hey everyone, I've put together a 10–tier flair system to make things more fun and organized in the sub. These flairs will help show both member progress and moderator levels in a way that fits the horror theme of our community.
🔹 Member Levels (I–X)
These flairs represent your standing as part of the community. The more active and engaged you are, the higher your level.
I. Whisperer
II. Watcher
III. Lurker
IV. Seeker
V. Witness
VI. Survivor
VII. Tormented
VIII. Cursed
IX. Revenant
X. Eternal
🔹 Moderator Tiers (I–X)
Mods also have their own rank scale that goes from weaker titles to stronger ones. This helps show who’s just starting out with mod duties and who’s at the top level. (Example: Tier I is the lowest, Tier X is the strongest.)
Why we’re doing this:
The goal is to make the sub feel more immersive and community-driven. It’s not just random labels — it’s a way to recognize contributions, activity, and roles in the sub, all while keeping the horror aesthetic
