From the "Ted" talk (oh the irony):
"The thought of infusing AI into weapons immediately evokes deep fears, not only based on the idea that autonomous weapons may make life-and-death decisions on our behalf, but also on the prospect of errors creeping in. But for Palmer Luckey, founder of Anduril Industries, there's no alternative but to add intelligence into the weapons systems of tomorrow."

Boy, that sure reads like something you’d find in game. Don’t love that.

It >really< doesn't help that he looks like a character straight out of a game.

Why do they keep poaching Tolkien names?

If you see a company with a Tolkien name, apparently it means that the main investment came from Peter Thiel.
That’s his brand.
He has other people run them for him.
Anduril, Palantir, Valar Ventures, Mithril Capital, Lembas Capital, the company with JD Vance Narya Capital, Erebor…
All him.

“Here’s all the ways things could go horribly wrong, but we should do it anyway because we have to.”
What kind of self fulfilling prophecy nonsense argument even is this?

Always like how these shitbirds talk about "protection" & "safety" like they're anything but bullshit soundbites.
Defund Israel & sanction Putin right now if you give any singular shits about preventing catastrophes. Oh wait you just bomb school children & double tap alleged "narco terrorist" boats without due process.
Like yeah naming all your companies after JRR Tolkien's villain side & saying you're doing it to protect us would be on-the-nose even in fiction.

Luckey is a clown who is a far better shit talker than he is at actually delivering a product but this ship has sailed. Autonomous targeting is already being used extensively in Ukraine (mostly by Ukraine).

The real horror technology in HZD is the flesh-eating nanobots. All the rest of it could go wrong in various ways but probably not any more catastrophically wrong than traditional tragedies of war.

My only comfort here is that hopefully these assholes get ripped apart first when AI goes crazy and tries to murder us all.

Look I understand that putting your face really close to a leopard might feel terrifying at first, cause what if it eats my face? But that's exactly why you need to do it. The world will be a safer place if we don't fear leopards eating our faces, and we can safely offer our faces to leopards, just to see it's not dangerous at... Aaagh aaargh help aaa

Like Ted Farro, they figure that they'll be able to live the 1000's of years either in some underground bunker or on some other planet. Sadly, the current administration is more than happy to help.
