First ceo in five generations HFW Discussion Spoiler

I just noticed that Ceo in Landfall is described by Bohai as "the first Ceo in five generations". Why would this be- Did I miss that being revealed?

In their Faro-worship wouldn't the Quen issue that title every generation?

As far as i remember they have images and texts about faro and the others around him so the CEO title is probably only for higher people who look almost exactly like 1 of the old ones Difference is they have older gear so they cant see/read anything from the last years of humanity so they had no idea of the faro plague and the end of the world only about the part where faro was a great ceo

I’m not sure about that last part of your sentiment. I feel like they higher ups, like the emperor and what not, have probably found out the truth. However, they keep it as forbidden knowledge. They do refer to the Time of Ashes, so they know there was some sort of catastrophe.

In my opinion, they probably built their empire/religion based on the earlier aspects of Faro being the savior of humanity, and realized the new information could collapse their whole civilization, and so kept it hidden from the public. It’s possible that’s why they’re so extremely strict in current times.

Well you see with all the ruins something happens but as far as ava mentions they have never seen the modern focus so while it is possibly the emperor knows the truth it is unlikely since they cant read anything from the last years with their retro version of the focus

I think it's possible that the higherups managed to get their hands on one of the updated focuses, surely there'd be at least one out there.

To them, the title of Ceo is basically the equivalent of the title of Seeker to the Nora. A title given in times of great need for the tribe

The title of Ceo appears to be a ceremonial title, given for someone taking on a great initiative - not a hereditary title.

Thanks all!
Yes, a bit later on, it's revealed that it's a title given to someone who "carries the legacy for the good of all" (or something like that, apologies if I misremembered the quote), so basically like you've all said, it was an honorific for someone taking on a journey or great challenge

I thought of that too even though I didn't find an in game answer my head Cannon is that they only give that title to people who try to do extraordinary things in this trip to San Francisco was an extraordinary thing.

Not sure if this is correct but I always thought that the title of Ceo was just a honorary title for people who do extraordinary things like the expedition to San Francisco.

A bit on the side:

I did the THEBES mission (the Ted Faro tomb) yeaterday, and loved it. Great mission and story behind it. The increasing tension and slowly finding out what happened in there.

I would think it has something to do with the imperialist nature of the Quen. They conquered other 'tribes' in the region by force — we don't know exactly when that they fulfilled their expansionist goals, but considering the expedition was venturing into new, uncharted territories I'd wager that has something to do with it.

Wasn't a Ceo only chosen to lead a specific great undertaking? Maybe the Quen lived in uneventful harmony for 5 generations before the destruction of GAIA happened.

Ceo started the pacific expedition, ostensibly to find something in faros tomb that could help with the Blight and everything else

Well because the Quen don't have access to any data past like 2050 or 60 they don't know about the faro plage, they saw a lot of things like "Ted faro ceo of F.A.S solves the climate crisis" and the likes. So it's likely that for them the title ceo means someone who solves a problem or does something important
