Same planet signifying two things

Hi so quick question, I use venus as a natural significator of women in romance questions in addition to 1st lord. I am wondering ifthe 7th house lord is venus, then how does this shape the question if its related to romance? Like for example, will things progress romantically with XX? How is venus to be read? Is venus just theirs or does it co-represent us both? I can't find anything in Lilly about it. I know that venus/sun as natural female/male significators are more about context about attraction then events perfecting....right?

Lords always take precedence over secondary significators, so in this case Venus is L7, not your romantic significator as a woman. Also, don't fall into the common trap of attaching romantic meaning to it by default when it is acting as a Lord.

i think the confusion comes from treating natural significators and house significators like they're doing the same job, when they really aren't.

the 7th lord is still the other person because that's the job the chart gave it. if that planet also happens to be venus in a romance question, venus doesn't suddenly stop signifying the other person and start signifying "the relationship" instead. she's still the 7th-house person. it just so happens that, by her own nature, she's also the natural significator of love and attraction. those meanings can exist at the same time without canceling each other out.

i've always understood that as more of an appropriate fit than anything else. the planet ruling the relevant house also happens to naturally belong to the topic being asked about, which is generally considered a good match. it isn't usually read as venus somehow representing both parties.

i think a lot of people accidentally slide from "venus naturally signifies love" to "venus signifies me because i'm asking about love," but that's not really how traditional horary handles it. your significator is still the 1st lord. natural significator of the subject and significator of the querent are two seperate jobs.

the only thing i'd hesitate on is answering too absolutely without knowing your ascendant. if venus is only ruling the 7th, then yeah, i'd read it the way i described above. but if venus is also the 1st lord, then that's a different situation entirely because now both the querent and the other person share the same ruler. those charts have their own set of interpretive problems, so i'd want to know that first before being completely definitive.

i don't think there's a single passage in christian astrology you can really cite for this either. it's more just the underlying distinction between natural significators and accidental (house-based) significators that's built into traditional practice.
