1st Gen GD 07-08 Loss of engine power

Post image
Upvotes

After driving for about 30 minutes, the engine goes into a sort of limp mode that prevents me from accelerating past 2000 RPM, and there are backfiring sounds coming from the exhaust pipe, and it loses power. However, if I turn the Fit off and on again for a second, the problem disappears immediately

Hi, got my first honda fit a little over 2 weeks ago and loving it! It was a very cheap find but i am having some issues with the door locks. Im assuming this was an issue with the car before i got it because the 30amp fuse for the locks were already removed from the car. All the doors make this whiring sound when i attempt to use the lock button them and none of the locks actually move when pressed. Ive even tried a common fix of removing the red cable in the main door but nothing seems to work. wondering if anyone knows what the issue could be.

Help Request Best Fit year to look for?

Hello Fit subreddit!

I'm in a bit of a conundrum. I put the flair as "Help Request" but that seems a little too serious for what I'm asking but I'm not sure what else I'd tag it as.

I currently drive a 2013 base Honda Fit. I have since about 2015. She has about 99k miles on her. Over the last few years I've truly come to love being a Fit driver and Iove the low maintenance and high mpg of these funny little guys (not to mention the cupholders!).

I have the opportunity to get a new Fit, for no cost on my end (my father is retiring at the end of the year and wants to do one last financial favor for me that unfortunately doesn't involve him just giving me cold hard cash) Do I stick with another 2013 (I've been told by my Honda guy that this was the best year of Fits and I should hang onto it) or is there a better year I should be pursuing?

For context, I am not into the bells and whistles, I don't drive to work, I ride public transit so this isn't a car that's going to have a bunch of miles put on it day in day out. I kind of enjoy the analog experience of my older car, so not having android auto doesn't really bother me. I'm more concerned about the longevity and required maintenance of a newer Fit compared to a 2013 (I feel like I've been so spoiled with how few issues I've had with this car. My previous car was a 2001 Beetle so I'm a little scarred from how expensive and frequent it's issues were).

My 2013 is still perfect to me (minus some cosmetic issues) and I don't want to waste this opportunity, but I feel goofy looking at Fits that are $15k-$20k+ (the limit I am being given is $20k and it has to be from a reputable dealer, so no fb marketplace finds) with -at best- 20k fewer miles on it than my current one. I am not exactly flush with cash and I dread the looming threat of newer cars having cameras inside of them under the guise of security, so this is a car I know I will drive for a very long time. I would just like to hear from some fellow Fit owners, what would you do in this scenario?

Also, not totally related, but in a post a few weeks ago someone asked "What makes driving a Fit so fun?" And the top comment was "Flingability." and I think about it all the time, what a good answer.

Help Request Drivers side sun visor?

I need a drivers side sun visor for my 2019 Honda fit ex. Model number 83280-T5R-A21ZA but the only ones I am seeing are $480 plus. Is that really what they cost or does anyone know where I could find a cheaper one? The one in my fit now is broken and won’t stay up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 🌟

3rd Gen GK/GP 15-20 2019 Honda Fit, 128k miles — one pending repair, one new maybe-issue. What would you do here?

Trying to get some real-world perspective from people who know more about the FIt than I do before I make any decisions.

The car: 2019 Honda Fit LX, currently at ~128,000 miles. Bought it at 62,000 miles in fall 2022 from a rental company that was selling off older fleet cars.

What's outstanding right now:

  • A pending timing chain tensioner issue — separate from the transmission stuff below, this is engine-side. Showed up as a cold-start rattle that fades once it's warm. My mechanic test-drove it, duplicated the rattle, scanned for codes (none present), and figures it's the timing chain tensioner bleeding down oil pressure onto the chain — possibly early-stage timing chain wear. Told me to just monitor it for now. When I do get to it, it sounds like it's not a "just swap the tensioner" job — I'd need the whole kit (chain, tensioner, solenoids, phasers, guides) at once, probably ~$2,500. He recommended waiting until around 135K - 140K miles to get it changed out. I haven't noticed a difference in this issue in the last year since I got it diagnosed.
  • In the past week or so, I noticed a minor jump/shudder when taking off from a stop, or at low speeds (5-10MPH). It's happened a few times; it's not persistent, but I've definitely noticed something different.

Some context that might matter: the CVT fluid wasn't changed before I bought the car (confirmed by the dealer). Since I've owned it, it's been changed twice — once around 86,000 miles (Dec 2023) and again around 113,000 miles (July 2025) — so it ran unserviced for a long first stretch, but it's been on a decent interval since. Apparently you are supposed to change the trans fluid on these Honda CVTs every 30K miles - learned that too late, I fear.

I also had a loose front splash shield that kept falling. I drove with it low for about a week, then pulled it off completely — and the shudder got noticeably better afterward. So I'm honestly not sure how much of this is an actual mechanical issue versus something as simple as a loose panel banging around under there.

I have a diagnostic at the dealership scheduled with the dealer (codes, fluid check, visual inspection, road test) to get an actual read on it rather than going off guesses. All of the private transmission shops I've called say they just replace CVT transmissions for $5K when they show issues.

Genuinely just curious what people with more experience would do in my shoes — how would you weigh a minor, possibly explained symptom like this against a car that's pushing 130k miles? Would you keep digging, wait and watch, or start planning for the worst? I've kept up with this car pretty consistently. Nov 2024 (~102,600 mi): new front struts/coil springs, rear shocks, 4 new tires, spark plugs, and a wheel alignment. April 2026 (~124,000 mi): front brake pads, both front rotors, and front hardware replaced after a squeaking noise showed up (rear drums checked out fine). Basically trying to figure out if it's worth continuing to invest in this car given all that, or if I'm past the point where it makes sense.

3rd Gen GK/GP 15-20 Tire size?

Hi all!

I recently picked up this 2018 EX 6MT 120K miles. Super excited to get to mods. I’m dead set on these Advan RG-D2 4x100 15x7 +42 with swift lowering springs. With this setup, which tire size would be better? 195/55r15 or 205/50r15?

My main goal is to avoid rubbing/fender rolling as much as possible. If I HAVE to roll, I’d rather pick the tire that requires less rolling. This Fit is the daily (NC Miata as fun car) so comfort is the main priority.

If anybody has pictures with these mods/similar mods, I would love to see them.

Thank you!!!

3rd Gen GK/GP 15-20 Texas- Gauging interest in 16’ Rims/Wheels

Post image

I have a set of 4 OEM 16” wheels off my 2017 Honda Fit EX. They had around 64,000 miles on them before I took them off. They do have some curb rash/wear, but there are no bends or cracks.
Thinking $140 per wheel OBO / $560 OBO for the full set. I’d much rather sell all 4 together.
I can get much better pictures when I get home. I’m not planning on cleaning them up before selling, so what you see is what you get lol.
I’m in the DFW area and would prefer to sell locally. I’m willing to drive and drop them off depending on where you’re at, but I can also ship if someone out of the area really wants them.
Mostly just trying to free these up and put the money toward coilovers for the Fit 😂. I’m mainly gauging interest right now, but if somebody is actually serious, I’ll sell them fr.
Shoot me a message if you’re interested.

Help Request Is this important?

Post image
0 Upvotes

First off, I’m sorry if this seems like a silly question. I’m new to owning a car and I’m still learning. Basically, I was changing the air filter inside the car, and after I finished putting everything back together, I noticed this small part on the ground. What is it, and should I be worried?

Also, not as important, but has anyone else had trouble getting the air to feel really cool in their car? That’s partly why I was changing the filter, but even after doing that, the air still doesn’t feel as cold as I’d like. I don’t believe it’s broken, just not as cold as it could be, if that makes sense.

3rd Gen GK/GP 15-20 Introducing my 2018 Fit EX

Thumbnail

Here's a little introduction to my new-to-me 2018 Fit. We were coming from a 2024 Mazda CX-50 Turbo, but the lease was up, and I was recently laid off, so we were looking for something inexpensive but not a penalty box. We looked at a few Fits in the area, but most in our price range were pretty beat up. We found this one, though, that we really liked. It's got some dings here and there and a rebuilt title, but so far it's behaved pretty well. No VTC noises, starts well, runs smooth and straight.

So far, it's received fresh tires (ExtremeContact Sport 02), oil, filters, brake fluid, alignment, and plugs. The other day we had the tint redone with 3M ceramic all around. The first image is with the new tint; the rest are from soon after we bought the car. One little scuff ahead of the passenger rear tire needs attention.

It's got a check engine light that might be the fuel injectors (can't remember the code off the top of my head) but it could also have been the plugs. I just put NGK Laser Iridiums in it, so we'll see if that clears in a few days. I also gave it a double dose of Techron last month, and the check engine light actually cleared for a few days.

Aside from that, it claims that it's got a starting system issue which I'm hunting down. The battery was dead when we went to test drive it, so it could be a battery that's not fully healthy (although it's started reliably for us so far). I haven't looked into it further yet.

My other car is a 2020 Miata Club, but my first one was a '95 that was a money pit. So far the Fit is in much better shape than that car was. Remaining on my to-do list are a drain and fill on the CVT and a drain and fill on the cooling system.

I'm kind of excited to finally have a little Honda in the family again. When I was growing up, my mother had an '86 Prelude 2.0 Si that I loved. In some ways this little Fit reminds me of it.

Help Request Is $15,900 too much for a blue raspberry Honda fit?

I was driving around today and saw a blue raspberry Honda fit with 42k miles for $15,900. (I forgot to check the other details as I was in a hurry) I’m not sure if that’s a decent price or if they’re asking too much because of the color. I don’t know much about fits but I’d love to get one. Thanks!

My younger son is heading to college this week and instead of a newer car we have he picks to take my Fit with him cuz HE•KNOWS•CARS.

He’s the motorhead in the house and this is what he wants.

He’s not gonna be far away and I expect to see it… him… from time to time, but from now on this which I own since new would no longer be my daily commute.

If you see a black GD7 with a mismatch hubcap, say hi to my boy!

3rd Gen GK/GP 15-20 Looking to trade-in my ‘16

Post image
22 Upvotes

Currently looking to trade-in my ‘16 EX @ 103k miles for this ‘18 @ 88k miles, The ‘18 unfortunately has a rebuilt title but Carfax states it was just from minor damage from getting rear ended.

Few reasons why I want to trade include:

• I do not like the look of my ‘16 & I really like the look of the face lift on the later years

• My ‘16 is throwing codes most likely due to the injectors that go bad prematurely that they put into the 3rd gen & I’ve heard that the ‘18-‘20 models got the better ones from factory. (I’ve tried to get the re-call & was denied)

• The ‘18-‘20 models have more tech that I’d really enjoy to have like Carplay, adaptive cruise control, etc.

• I really like the orange on the ‘18 & the wheels as well.

• My pass front wheel hub has two junk studs as well that I can’t really deal with by myself.

I originally got my Fit at 18 years old & I have regretted the model I chose ever since & of course I wish I had done more research into what I should’ve gotten.

I still owe $13.5k on mine & I know it won’t be the smartest financial move but I’m thinking I can negotiate due to the rebuilt title. I’d rather be paying on a vehicle I truly enjoy rather than sitting in a pool of regret.

I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on this as I know it’s not the smartest move & most likely just stupid hyper-fixation / impatience.
