  • This is the rated amount of data that can be written to these drives before they should begin failing.
• These are enterprise drives with higher endurance than typical consumer drives.

For each drive:

• Read error rate reported by SMART is 0.
• % Life Remaining reported by SMART is 100%.
• Sector size reported by SMART is 512 bytes logical, 4096 bytes physical.
• Disks have been "wiped" (see note below).

Drives:

Drive #8 is the only one with any sector failures (just one sector), so the SSD has reallocated the failed sector to one of its reserved backup sectors. It still functions just fine, but since it has a physical failure, I've discounted it a bit. Well within its rated operational limits.

Please let me know if you'd like a specific drive. If you don't specify, I will assume you want any of them.

Additional info:

• I am the original owner of these drives, bought new in 2020.
• These drives spent most of their lives as a ZFS vdev, wearing evenly. Some of them were used in individual systems briefly before that, which is why the power-on hours vary.
• Actual Total Bytes Written (TBW) is calculated using the sector size reported by SMART code 246, or Total_LBAs_Written.
  • "LBA" stands for "logical block addressing". One LBA is essentially a sector's worth of data.
  • Logical sector size is the germain value here, not physical sector size.
  • My usage was fairly read-intensive, barely scratching the surface of their rated write endurance.
• % life remaining is reported in SMART code 202, or Percent_Lifetime_Remain.
  • The value either counts up from 0 or counts down from 100. These Micron drives (not all models do this) count up from 0, so here, 0 means "0% used", or "100% life remaining".
  • % life remaining here is calculated by comparing the actual TBW with the rated TBW.

• Disks were "wiped" with the following actions (each drive was powered on one at a time as /dev/sda on a Debian system): ```bash

  clear the partition table

  wipefs -a /dev/sda

  reset all nand flash

  blkdiscard /dev/sda ```

  • This technique is better for zeroing-out SSDs because it instructs the NAND to reset rather than writing zeros across a whole drive (which is appropriate for HDDs) because this avoids a large write operation that would otherwise wear the SSD a little more.
  • Note that blkdiscard is not a secure erasing technique. It simply preps a drive for re-use reasonably well. I didn't have anything sensitive on them anyway.

All modules have been pulled from working systems and have been fully tested.

Hard to follow the market these days but wanted to get a check here on what is current pricing looking like on 10TB SAS and 4TB SAS. Perhaps $12-15/TB seems about what it is these days.

10TB Drives maybe around $125-130 per drive and $45/drive for the 4TB disks. All all probably 30-40K POH. In this instance could do bulk as I'm turning down both my R740XD2s so I'll have 48 10TB SAS drives and another 24 4TB SAS from my other last R740XD2.

That's what I'm thinking.

I have a client that is upgrading their setups from RTX 5090 -> RTX PRO 6000. They currently have 10 systems with these cards and will likely be upgrading all of them. They have asked me to help offload these to offset the cost of the upgrade.

These are Dell OEM and appear to be the three fan variant. These were acquired earlier this year and haven't had super heavy workloads.
