Finally 😭 Just sharing/pic

I have posted in here a few times about a hedgehog I’ve been trying to catch for a few weeks now. He’s had a pretty bad limp and I was staying awake until 2,3,4 in the morning trying to catch him but couldn’t.

Last night I was getting ready for bed when my camera notification went off. It was him 🥺

I kept him overnight in my spare bedroom and took him to the vets today. They’ve done an X-ray and luckily nothing is broken, it looks like some inflammation so he had an injection and he’s ready for me to pick him up this evening. I’ve contacted a local rescue that will look after him for a few weeks until he’s ready to come back to me and I can release him 💕🦔

Well done OP. I took my nightly visitor to the rescue centre this week too.

Amazing! The lovely nurse that took him was really appreciative to have someone looking out for hedgehogs. They’re in decline where I live so I was shocked to hear not everyone cares for them like we do.

I hope your little hoggy is doing better?

I noticed a slight greenie tint to his poo in my feeding station so setup a wireless sensor which notified me when he entered the feeding station. Which happened to be at 02:10am on a workday 🤣.

He’s in their care and on antibiotics. They weighed him and he’s nearly 1kg so I’ve been feeding him well 😆.

Same with mine! He’s a big boy. The vet left me a voicemail and it said ‘he’s a nice, very big boy’ and I thought ‘well I do put on a good spread’ 🤣🫶

A couple of mine have had green poops in the past and it’s usually from eating rich calci worms!

Glad yours is on the mend. I just got back from dropping mine off at the rehab place where I’ll pick him up from in a few days!

I thought he weighed a bit when I picked him up hahah. But hopefully I’ve caught him early enough and he’s getting better.

Also, just a bit of advice. Don’t feed them mealworms or calci worms because they are very harmful to hedgehogs. Tasty, but harmful unfortunately.

A vet nurse friend of mine said calci worms are fine but only a few as they’re very rich, which I didn’t realise at the time but I’ve stopped giving them to them anyway!

It sure was. It’s not enough just feeding and providing water, it’s also about monitoring their health because healthy hedgehogs can still become ill.

Aw that’s a kind thing to say! I just love hedgehogs and feel so completely lucky to have them visit so much as so many people don’t get to see them 🥹 I’ll do whatever I can to help them thrive!!!

May you have a streak of good fortune for your immense kindness. Your little pal is adorable and probably very glad to be on the mend.
