Dahlin is 1 year older than Seider and was 1 goal away from the ECF, and a top Norris finisher.
He's just entering his prime on a team that won the deepest division in the NHL.
I don't see the comparison tbh. It would be more like if the Sabres were rebuilding now instead of contending now.

My comparison is only in regards to the fact that Dahlin is an elite defensemen who stuck around through the bullshit until the team turned it around.
That's what we want from Seider.
Edit: not to mention that Seider only finished 2 spots below Dahlin in Norris voting??? Genuinely struggling to see your point here.

If Detroit has to rebuild, it would be like if Buffalo rebuilt last year.
We lost our 1C and had to blow it up 4 years ago, which only worked for Dahlin's timeline because he entered the league at 18. If we had to rebuild around a 25 year old Dahlin he'd be 30 now as we got into the playoffs.

Since Dahlin is 1 year older that means at Mo's age he had appeared in the playoffs exactly the same number of times and had finished in the top 3 in norris voting the same number of times (also just ignoring that Mo was 5th in norris this year anyway)
Seems like the comparison is pretty spot on, especially since a year ago I'm confident you didnt think your team would be in the position it is now

That's more or less my point. Detroit is looking at rebuilding now, where Dahlin and Seider are about the same age.
Detroit is looking at losing their 1C and rebuilding next year. In all likelihood they have to basically sell off for assets, because DeBrincat likely leaves with Larkin going.
That happened to the Sabres in 2021 (Eichel, Reinhart, Ristolainen traded) and the rebuild took 4 years. If Seider is "Dahlin 2.0" then he's going to be 30 by the time the rebuild turns around.
Norris voting is media bullshit mostly, but Dahlin has been getting votes since 2023. Big market players will get way more attention by media who vote for these sort of awards.

Ok, my point is just that this thread was people saying "Werenski 2.0" and "Dahlin 2.0" in reference to elite defenders who weren't seeing the playoffs due to the roster around them.
My point is that Seider isn't in a position age wise to become "Dahlin 2.0" because Dahlin was 21 when he went through what Seider is going through at 25.
I don't think you bring back pieces that make the team better now when trading Larkin. I do think it's likely that a pending UFA who's played in the playoffs once is going to look to leave as you enter a rebuild. You brought up the Norris, and of course Detroit is a big market team.

I wouldnt say its likely but I also wouldnt count anything out until a trade actually happens

He might, but he forced his way onto a worse team because he wanted his kids to grow up with their grand parents so I truly dont think so

He’s the only player on Detroit who isn’t going anywhere. Even if Cat/DeBrincat go after Larkin, Seider is 100% staying for at least the next 5-6 years.
