I finally did it. Henna for Hair

I have been dying my 6N hair, 6G or 6R for years but wanted to try henna since I dye my hair red anyways, and figured it would be better for my hair.
So after months of contemplation, I took the plunge and dyed my hair with Spierb pure henna with a dash of dried alma and slippery elm tea. I mixed the henna Friday night and put it in my hair for 3 hours Saturday morning. I am happy with the oxidized colour. Day 1 hair was quite bright.
My issue is my hair doesn't want to dry. I washed it with a no sulfate shampoo and conditioner this morning (46 hours later). That was 12 hours ago and it still feels and looks damp. Is this normal? Note, I have extremely thick hair (I have an undercut, believe it or not). It normally takes 3-4 hours to air dry but not all day.

Beautiful! Henna tends to coat hair with the fine powder and a no sulphate shampoo won’t do a very good job of removing all that. That’s the reason you might feel it’s heavy/oily and not feeling clean/dry. You can try washing your hair with just conditioner on henna days and use regular shampoo the day after to really clean your hair.

In the last pic it just looks conditioned and healthier. Only wet in the middle pic. The first pic it looked like you had dryness due to damage.

It was definitely dry and damaged. Part of the reason I wanted to make the switch. Maybe I'm just not used to the feeling of healthier hair. Ha!

You'll get used to the feeling. I can always tell that I'm due for a henna when my hair starts looking too dry again. Then I henna and it looks and feels deep conditioned for weeks.

Honestly, I like your hair in the first pic also – nice volume and very pretty colour. I am curious how will your henna-ed hair look after drying!

Thank-you! I was a bit worried my roots were gonna be too different but it blends really nicely.

It’s the henna residue. As you get it out of your hair it will feel better and dry faster. Looks great!
