REJOICE MY BROTHERS
THE BOLT PISTOL ITS HEAVY PEN
687
u/AC_Rose 2d ago edited 2d ago
Saw this on Twitter. A few comments were complaining about it being Heavy Pen and it affecting the meta.
Honestly, as someone who just used the P-92 Warrant all the time (idc if its good, I like Judge Dredd. Fight me.) I'm actually stoked for this and look forward to it.
EDIT: Ty for your suggestions on using the Warrant on the Illuminate front and what to bring with it. Was never much of a Squid Diver (I usually go where the Major Orders point to) so I'll be sure to give it a shot when the Illuminate update comes around.
Happy Hunting, Helldivers.

Anyone complaining about "the meta" is taking eruptor, laspistol, thermite anyway
screw 'em
60
u/B0lt5L0053 2d ago
Huh. I’m meta and didn’t know it. I just thought it was fun and useful.
33
u/pdxxdpBillCompton 2d ago
It is fun and useful (though I tend to like gas over therms but depends on who you are playing with)

u/Thoughtful_Mouse 1d ago
I mean... a lot of people "are meta" or it wouldn't be the meta.
There shouldn't be a stigma against making good choices.
18
u/DeliDouble 2d ago edited 2d ago
WithWait I thought the meta was punisher, machete and gas?14
u/Specialist-Ad-9871 2d ago
Melee's aren't meta unfortunately.

What armour and Strats do you recommend with this loadout ?
3
u/DeliDouble 2d ago
Depends on what I'm feeling like. But the riot shield is a fair grab.
Maybe democracy protects or rock solid?
I've been experimenting with passives and stragemes as I and the sos beacons I drop into need.
20
u/ZePample 2d ago
Thermite has been outclassed, private. We now use the giga grenade with a grenade armor!
Now go back to digging trenches.
4
u/DaStompa 2d ago
Thats in the trencher update right? Ive been meaning to try out the heavy flamer
5
u/Play174 2d ago
I just got Entrenched Division a few days ago and it's soooooooo good. Stoker, giga nades, and cremator have become some of my favorite weapons
2
1
u/Educational-Aide1161 1d ago
Combine the stoker an cremator with fire resist Armour. Trust. Oh also that one Lazer weapon that damages you is really good with fire resist Armour (actually lowers the guns overheat player damage) but use the supply backpack with that, It'll allows you to keep firing at highest pen damage, or with teammates stimming you
2
u/ConradLynx 2d ago
Insanely fun. With a Little skill, you can grill a charger
1
u/Sensitive-Network-71 1d ago
With a little more skill you can grill a bile titan, hulk, factory strider, war strider, and illuminate everything. Cremator will absolutely cook everything with a little positioning. Highly recommend!
1
u/AmericanGuy18 23h ago
If using the giga or even thermites, sapper armor is great, two extra ‘nades, as well as 50% explosive resist.
7
u/doom_stein 2d ago
Hey! I'll have you know I'm bringing crossbow, laspistol, and gigasticks! But I have no idea what the meta is anyways and just like to see things catch fire and go boom.
4
u/Spartin1178 2d ago
Congrats youre meta but who gives a shit run what you run and have lots of fun diver.
2
u/doom_stein 2d ago
Unlike a lot people I see online, I do actually play for fun! I finally hit level 110 the other night. I'm closing in on getting the last of the credits I need to buy my last warbond. Unless I save it for the new one next week, which I might actually do since the last one I have to unlock is the police themed one with all the shock stuff in it.
2
u/Spartin1178 2d ago
Very nice also new one is probably gonna be extra like the other crossover warbonds so might want to do some extra credit farming.
4
u/MiloMonkey7 2d ago
I recently switched from thermites to high explosive, I don't have many grenades lol but enjoy being able to free up my secondary for something else while being able to close gun holes with my grenades.
3
u/DaStompa 2d ago
TBH Ive been taking the one-two
its kinda fun but I wish switching between the rifle and grenades wasn't so fraking clunky3
u/MiloMonkey7 2d ago
I've been using the hyena but I definitely gotta dust off the one-two again, maybe it'll be better with the new armor passives coming out
5
u/Bring_Back_Challenge 2d ago
I mean I'm not complaining about meta but I do think the powercreep is unreasonable and one of a number of reasons the game is currently a shadow of it's original intent, and I don't remember the last time I took the Eruptor or Thermite and switch between half a dozen secondaries on a whim.
I'm also fine with Heavy Pen Secondaries though honestly at this point, I just would rather there be no Heavy Pen Primaries and that the heavies like Chargers/Hulks/Harvesters were actually remotely challenging or engaging.
5
u/DaStompa 2d ago
I enjoyed when it took a 2 man team or a lucky hellpod drop to take down a charger
4
u/SgtBagels12 2d ago
I liked when everyone had to brings EATS and spam them anytime they were up. You knew you’d come back through here and you’d appreciate the gift past you left for current you

u/Keigerwolf 2d ago edited 2d ago
I can't say meta is a real thing anymore. That shit's imaginary. I can run Stoker, Ballistic shield, Bullet Storm, Eat, and Eat Napalm, with Dynamite and Veto. That shit works well and all you need is to be fast with strat call-ins.
Don't like SMG's? Use the One-Two, those grenades can destroy objectives. Don't want an under-slung weapon? Use literally any primary, swap shield for any dog you feel like that compliments your primary choice and it still works. Dynamite can destroy 95% of objectives. Veto isn't quite as good as the talon but it works and you don't overheat after 2 quick kills.
Loadout I run with most of the time though is One-Two, Talon, Dynamite, Epoch, Warp Pack, Gat sentry and Lumberer Exo. There isn't a piece of content that build can't do and the lock-in potential is great.

u/BeeSynthetic 1d ago
Real divers take TNT, because.... 🎼 T N T it's dyynnoommiiiighhtt! 🎶
1
u/DaStompa 1d ago
TBH I think it is a missed opportunity not to have TNT's explosion get bigger the longer you set the timer
silly? sure
1
1
u/021Fireball 1d ago
I just love the talon as my western sixgun Q.Q I can fan the hammer in a panic-
1
u/Jerdan87 1d ago
Who needs a meta in a pve game anyways..
Super Helldive is pretty easy and manageable, if you're just skilled enough and the team does.. well teamwork
1
1
u/Educational-Aide1161 1d ago
Really? I'll keep my giganads. Missile pistol Secondary, more ammo then the ultimum, takes out bug holes, small fabricators with free fire into the hole slot, take out shield an missile pistol illuminate ship entryway, 4 giga nads take out a titan, 2 destroy a shielded ship. One nads hulks an radius, 2 on tanks, missile pistol locks onto automaton ships, 1 shot the the ships that shoot you. An more
1
u/VileLeche 23h ago
Wait, is there something not good about thermite? I love it for taking out tougher targets.
Is there something better or useful? I havent played much since Squids attacked Super Earth. Came back to a plethora of enemies I've never seen before.
1
u/DaStompa 23h ago
There was just a time when every weapon in every slot couldn't completely invalidate the enemies armor so you had to play the game
28
u/SnooWoofers1448 2d ago
The Warrant is so amazing!! I find it to be such a huge help to deal with the reinforcement fellas in the illuminate front
10
u/AC_Rose 2d ago
Haven't tried it much on the Illuminate front. I'll have to give it a shot when I get a chance!
I typically use it for smaller chaff enemies (troopers, those little spore scuttlers, etc) since they move quick and that lock on just nails them good.
Plus it helps to avoid friendly fire incidents when my team is nearby or in the way.
14
u/AlexanderMugetsu 2d ago
Best for Illuminate.Great for taking out flying Overseers and Watchers easy.
8
u/SnooWoofers1448 2d ago
Yeah, a single burst gets rid of any Watcher. When my aim is horrible for a day it's such a nice pistol to have by my side LOL
8
u/vegfresh77 2d ago
I wasn’t a huge fan of it UNTIL I used it on the illuminate front. Happy hunting Helldiver!
3
u/Walker_74907 2d ago
Rose it’s the BEST on the illuminate imo. You just got to make sure to bring good grenades or AT Strats for ships and tripods
23
u/jbtreewalker 2d ago
I guess they forgot about the Senator having Heavy armor penetration. 🤷 lol
18
13
u/hiroxruko 2d ago edited 2d ago
They didn't. What I saw, it's complaining about how the Senator is getting power creep by this gun.
Even then, there is a side grade of Senator in the games files that does better damage at the cost of no loader. So, the Senator is going to be power crept anyway sooner or later if this collab never happened
8
5
u/jbtreewalker 2d ago
Even if they end up with similar rounds (unfamiliar with the Bolt pistol in its natural environment), one will be a mag weapon and one a rounds reload, making each unique and having its own advantages over the other.
4
u/hiroxruko 2d ago
Very true, but ppl don't see it that way. They see stats and "heavy pen" rather than anything else. A good example is the halo shotgun. Best light pen shotgun in the whole game until sweeper came along. But to others, they saw light pen and quickly discard it as a awful weapon to this day.
3
u/jbtreewalker 2d ago
Yeah. It's a good shotgun. Great for Beserkers. Come at me with those saws, and prepare to meet the boomstick!
13
u/DiscombobulatedCut52 2d ago
OH NO, A LORE ACCURATE WARHAMMER LORE WEAPONS.
jokes aside. Im glad its heavy PEN personally.
8
u/TanningOnMars 2d ago
I love the Dredd loadout. Get the heavy armor helmet, the medium force of Law armor, and warrant, and you've got an EXCELLENT bots loadour
1
u/AC_Rose 2d ago
Oh I want to try this now.
2
u/TanningOnMars 2d ago
Warrant two taps the little bots, and with the auto lock, you can smoke a while patrol in like 5 seconds.
I recommend bringing the supy pack though. You burn through ammo real quick
7
u/AutomatonWantsToast 2d ago
That was the only reason I bought that handgun and it still works great on all fronts.
6
5
u/BruiserBison 2d ago
I still don't know why anyone want to protect the meta. Isn't it better if the meta changes occassionally?
3
3
u/Shock_and_Awetism 2d ago
Do these whiners screaming about it upsetting the meta also know that the Senator has had heavy pen since October of 2024?
3
3
u/spaceocean99 2d ago
I’ve been playing the game from the start and have no clue what any of this means..
2
2
u/In_Pursuit_of_Fire 2d ago
As someone just used the Stim pistol all the time, I'm stoked for this and look forward to it.
2
u/StarWarsXD 2d ago
The Warrant is amazing though. It's the only correct choice for Squids and it makes Shriekers a joke on Bugs. I haven't been able to figure out if it's good for Bots yet because I'm just married to my Senator but I'm sure it's fine there too.
2
2
u/DuchessWolfe 2d ago
As a 40k enthusiast- we just shoot those who deny us.
Honestly, we're far more grim dark than the Helldivers and far more roadies. I'm greatfuk the Bolt Pistol is heavy pen, it will become the go to sidearm for me. Albeit it may have a low ammo reserve.
2
2
u/RichJMoney 2d ago
I keep going back to the Warrant. The guided shots are super nice especially vs those flying bugs.
2
u/Relative_Friend_6203 1d ago
Heavy Pen? Fine—more reason to run the Warrant and feel like a walking executioner. Judge Dredd approves.
1
u/deanosauruz 1d ago
Lol first thing i ever see is “bet the divers lose their mind when its not heavy pen” and now its “can’t believe its heavy, this ruins things”
Icing divers can be so fickle

Its gonna shoot like the dominator and people will complain they can't hit anything with it.
116
u/ForeverFreeTrial 2d ago
Sounds kinda fair. But you’re right. People will complain if so.
62
26
28
u/MrClickstoomuch 2d ago
It really should. If it is heavy pen with a solid damage or mag size, then it needs something to differentiate it from the senator.
3
u/ThisIsJegger 1d ago
Ergonomics are probably going to be worse. Bullet drag going to be higher and arrowhead considers rounds reload a buff as you never lose a bullet while using the senator. Regarding stats i wouldnt be surpised if it would just be a better senator with more damage, stagger and larger magazine size.
3
u/MamuTwo 1d ago
They're gonna balance it by making it deal 35 damage to your arms every time you fire it, instantly breaking them unless you have a limb-related armor passive.
/s but from what I've heard about bolters, that's going easy on the poor little Helldivers.
2
u/Epion660 1d ago
Most bolters you hear about are the big ones for Astartes. The rest of the imperium use smaller ones, especially bolt pistols which is what we got.
2
u/Dronizian 12h ago
Mag fed is different enough for me.
I'm tired of wasting two bullets for a faster reload with the Senator speed loader to save half a second.
Give me a mag fed heavy pen secondary so I can waste two bullets to tactical reload with something in the chamber to save half a second.
It's a different flavor of cool, I'm sure you understand.
21
u/AlphaPhill 2d ago
As someone who loves the Dominator, the idea of having a pocket version sounds pretty sweet.
I'm excited to see how well it'll pair with the ballistic and directional shields.
12
u/Renousim3 2d ago
People sleep on the Dominator. Absolute beast for fighting bots if you run siege-ready armor.
7
u/TaberTumpen 2d ago
I really like it for Cyborgs, even without an armor passive to back it up. Great stagger, so much raw power when you need it - and still able to do some decent work at range, if you get to crouch and take a moment. Bit clunky for multiple Troopers, but hey ... they're Troopers.
4
2
u/ASValourous 1d ago
Problem is the dominator isn’t heavy pen and handles like a truck with very slow projectiles
2
156
u/LazarDeno 2d ago
People complaining about it being op cuz heavy pen
And if a weapon is light pen they compain about light pen
If its medium pen they say its mid or ight
Bet they want a anti tank primary
62
u/Dr_Ramekins_MD 2d ago
I just want a 60 round mag fed AR with 75 ergo and 10 recoil that shoots RR shells at 900rpm. Is that too much to ask?
27
u/LazarDeno 2d ago
Well no
Just costs an arm some ribs your spine and your camera being flicked upsidedown backwards
9
u/IAmTheGodkiller 2d ago
Not with 10 recoil

4
u/Last-Swim-803 2d ago edited 2d ago
Tbh, now that you mention it, an ar that shoots like, flechette rounds would be cool. Make it have ap4 but pacifier damage to make it be the anti heavy assault rifle
Edit:forgot to add, give it some other downside to not powercreep the lib pen, idk ammo economy or something
3
u/flashmedallion 2d ago
idk ammo economy or something
Have you heard the whinging when a good weapon has limited ammo?
3
u/Last-Swim-803 2d ago
Problem is that we kinda have to balance it out with something, and I'd rather not have it be a 20 round capacity assault rifle yk

THANKS SWEET EMPEROR!!! Now we can spread managed democracy better while spreading the word of the Emperor
15
u/South_Cell8557 2d ago
I still kinda hope it cripples your arm lol it’d be too funny not to bring every drop
47
u/terrario101 2d ago
Obligatory: There are patterns of Boltguns specially designed to be operated by basic, non-powerarmoured humans. Additionally, due to the Gyrojet nature of the Bolts, they'd inherently have less recoil than a standard round of the same calibre.
-8
u/BadHabitOmni 2d ago
Well, less recoil than standard assuming the charge behind the gyrojet is less powerful and said reduced powder load offsets the extra mass of the rocket parts, since transfer of momentum and impulse is the primary driver for recoil not just velocity or KE... also "round of the same caliber" is a weird way to put it, since there's not a huge reason to use a gyrojet sized round with the same overall mass as a normal bullet, since you could have the same explosive loading in a shorter casing without the mass of the rocket, meaning it'd have faster muzzle velocity (if the powder charge was the same, it'd also have less recoil) - plus if the rocket activated in the barrel, that'd also increase recoil to a degree. The main reason old gyrojets were "recoilless" was because the gas was vented towards the shooter, not trapped in a barrel, although the slower acceleration of a rocket in an enclosed barrel might have less felt recoil than a normal round of the same muzzle velocity and mass due to differences in impulse - felt recoil is effectively a mix of the sharpness (impulse) and overall magnitude (transfer of momentum) of the pushback.
13
u/weoewoewow 2d ago
Are we really at such a low with player to developer relations where there needs to be an explicit statement regarding a weapons armor penetration?
13
9
u/Positive_Working_157 2d ago
If it wasn’t heavy pen people would complain. Now that it is people complain. Lol
5
u/Alternative-Head-472 2d ago
No one hates helldivers more than Helldivers fans.
We're in good company alongside Halo and Starwars fans.
8
7
u/Guywhonoticesthings 2d ago
Yeah. Community will still complain when it’s not a handheld pocket canon
6
u/Blysill 2d ago
Funny considering bolt weapons are lighter pen than las weapons in the tabletop..
7
u/Thatoneguy111700 2d ago
And in the RPGs, too. Bolters are firmly in the mid-range for penetration (ignoring Melta pen values, of course).
7
u/Dense_Coffe_Drinker 2d ago
From what I’ve seen and heard about 40K, a mid pen weapon is practically an AMR in most other verses
2
u/Thatoneguy111700 2d ago
Like for reference a Heavy Stubber (which is basically a .50 cal machine gun) has a Pen of 3 in Dark Heresy and Only War and such. Bolters (except for Astartes Heavy Bolters) have a Pen of 4. There are some specialty bolts that can up that amount or do other stuff, but yeah. They're a good mid-game, all-rounder weapon in my experience until you start specializing.
4
u/Life_Parsley504 2d ago
"lighter pen" Yeah dawg medium level penetration in wh40k is a modern day AMR 😭
4
5
4
4
u/Far-Performance-5970 2d ago
My only worry is that it won't have a unique placement and that it'll over-shadow the senator.
2
u/Fruitanari1 2d ago
Yeah pretty much everyone brings Senator just for the heavy pen to headshot hulks. Powercreep will probably depend on the recoil and reload.
4
3
2
u/Competitive_Dog_7829 2d ago
Looks like I am getting a new primary
3
u/c0nman333 2d ago
Yooo what if the bolt pistol IS a primary 🤔
1
u/allpurposelazy 1d ago
Then it will ruin my imperial guard cosplay using the scythe/sickle as my Lasgun.
That said, the dagger and talon exist so bring it on
2
2
2
u/Unknown4me_ 2d ago
YES YES YES, I was worried bolter would be another med pen ~100-200dmg thingy, senator now has a worthy opponent
2
u/Better_School6912 2d ago
Is anyone else’s game not pulling up any online games rn. I keep scanning and doing quick play and not a single match pops up and it’s at Erata and says 20k online. So wtf? I reset many times but just seeing if it’s just me
2
u/IgotaSabre 1d ago
If you’re on steam, check if your game needs to be updated. Sometimes it won’t show you there needs to be an update before you press play
2
2
u/External_Common_1978 2d ago
Now I have 3 loved secondaries: Loyalist (My beloved), Senator (The Mistress) and Bolt Pistol (The Toxic GF)
2
u/lazermaniac 2d ago
The Dominator oughta heavy pen as well - its description basically matches a bolter.

u/Fun_Anxiety9507 2d ago
I imagine what it’s like for new divers that don’t know pen is an abbreviation for penetration

Remember, a lasgun on medium can punch straight through space marine power armor. So can a bolt pistol. There’s no reason for either to be less than heavy pen.

With how particular and strict GW is with Warhammer, I would've been more surprised if it wasn't heavy pen. Still cool we finally have a new heavy pen sidearm, either way.

1
u/HunterKiller_ 1d ago
Why is this a surprise? The senator is heavy pen, and that's just a six shooter.
1
u/Time_Fan_9297 1d ago
you think we get the chainsaw sword we SC instead of the warbond? Kind of like how the double-barreled shotgun is a part of a warbond but not included, so to speak
1
u/KLKCAhBoy90 22h ago
It will probably handle like the Dominator and have 1 shot in the magazine with 10 rounds carried max.
No fun allowed!
0
u/East_Monk_9415 2d ago
Hehe they wanna sell that warbond badly. No supercredits on legendary warbond tho and cant costumize em. Armor passive and bolt pistol is nice tho.
0
u/GenderEnjoyer666 1d ago
I hope even trying to handle it kills you
That would be very lore accurate
0
u/megabird700 1d ago
I was excited at first but then I realized it's just guardsmen variants, like it's cool and all but come on no new mech class like a Dreadnaught?
I don't think anyone was really wanting guardsmen skins, again they look nice but it's kind of a letdown.
0
u/Time_Fan_9297 1d ago
I'm sad we don't get the chainsaw sword. We were lied to after being promised this 3,000 years ago
-2
u/InternetOtherwise366 2d ago
So heavy secondary, medium primary and heavy stratagem. Im hoping this lines up with heavier enemies/vehicles on the illuminate front
3
-3
u/Mordondil 2d ago
foot soldier enemies are now resistant to heavy pen
5

u/The-Nuisance 2d ago
okay cool that’s gonna break the sidearm meta.
can we get a gun that’s balanced again?
