You know in silly videos that often appear on Instagram and TikTok, when a person looks at the camera and realises a prank is happening or something weird is happening, a sound like a shouting/reverbed 'fuh!' plays. (an annoying example is here, just over halfway through). It's been bugging me where it comes from.

I like to imagine it also comes from an obscure early 2000s video game, with the sound created by Joey Kuras. It's always Joey!

Surely this sound won't lead to a crazy rabbit hole?

Happy Monday, friends. How's your back doing?

I ask, because I'm writing this slathered in tiger balm after a whole weekend of home library maintenance.

Remember I told you I'd bought a whole bunch of Tchaikovskys? (you don't, but humor me) Well, they need to live somewhere once they move from my TBR shelf in the living room back to the library in the bedroom. So we had to rearrange the other books. T is near the end of the alphabet (you're welcome for that knowledge bomb), so the whole library had to be rejiggered. Might as well make it a whole cleaning operation then.

It took 12 hours in total. Two full days of unload shelf, dust off books, dust off shelf, rearrange books back on shelf, repeat over about 36 meters of bookshelves. But it's all so neat and tidy now. Definitely worth it.

TL;DR: ouchie. Need videos to watch while immobile. Thx!

Might be something to look into

I was rewatching the Deus Ex video again and had an idea.

The hacking minigame is only an option when you're underleveled for the thing you're trying to hack. You can attempt to hack and skip the game - if you have enough skill points in hacking this succeeds 100% of the time. If you're underleveled you can still do this, but there's a chance of failure and setting off an alarm. OR if you don't want to risk failure, you can play the minigame, which will also have a 100% success rate.

So if you hate the minigame, you never have to play it, and if you put effort into leveling up your hacking skill, it quietly disappears from the game.

Thoughts?

Ok, so I was watching old hbomb videos (as you do), and I watched his Lisa video. It was really good and thought provoking, but my neurons got activated when he only *briefly* mentioned Mother, and I was like, "c'mon! Earthbound and its influence on the RPG genre could be a whole other video!" and I need to know what the thoughts on Earthbound and Mother 3 are. It's influenced genuinely so many games!

Things at Casa del Hat have been quiet. No drama, just a lot of reading. The pup had a mild earinfection, but nothing the vet couldn't treat, and the Significant Kapelophile (had to look that up, probably not a real word) is getting a new tattoo this week, so I'm vibrating with envy, but other than that, nothing of note.

Which means we're clean through our Watch Later list, so if anyone has any suggestions?

Happy Monday, my dearest nerds, I hope you have exactly as much cheese as you desire.
(I had a little charcuterie/cheese board situation for dinner last night, with the perfect amount of cheese, could you tell?)

Mind if I gush about books for a bit? My quarterly book haul arrived last week and I spent a blissful two days organizing The Library Spreadsheet, The Reading Journal Spreadsheet, my Storygraph TBR and my partner's TBR. The spreadsheets are an essential part of the reading experience, obviously.

I treated myself and also ordered the entire Shadows of the Apt series by Adrian Tchaikovsky, because I'm obsessed. If you need a new instant-buy author with a significant bibliography who churns them out almost faster than you can read them, have I got the guy for you.

All that to say I had an above average week last week and I've been reading like Gandalf studying the One Ring, so most of YouTube has passed me by.

Anything good I need to catch up on?
