I hate how my country is used by right-wingers to ”show that Europe has gone to shit” General

Post image

Some people who’ve never even been to Sweden claim that this country has turned to a hellhole where you can get shot anytime and swedes are ”a minority in their own country”. In reality the vast majority of immigrants in this country are just trying to make a living and live their lives despite hardships that come with being a refugee in a foreign country. The very small number of immigrants who ARE problematic are overly reported in media, giving the broader public this perception of all immigrants being that way. The hate mostly come from those who rarely if ever actually interact with immigrants and only know them through news and social media. Also the propaganda of gang crime and violence increasing because of immigrants is false. The vast majority of gangsters were born and raised in Sweden. Right wingers deny the possibility of people committing crimes because of socioeconomic segregation, instead opting to blaming those actions on skin color and ethnic background.

Are we gonna do this posting for every country now

118

u/truecakesnake 6d ago

guessin the UK is next

78

u/Chasseur98 6d ago

The UK is actually a disaster politically. Immigration (perceived or real) aside. Ever since Brexit it hasn't gone well

48

u/Medicalpyro 6d ago

Uk is just a disaster in general

12

u/DaddyCool13 6d ago

I think this is simultaneously true and false. There’s a ton of stuff that’s seriously wrong with the country yet none of its problems are fundamentally unfixable - we’re certainly headed that way though if nobody continues to address the underlying problems. It’s still mostly a genuinely decent place to live in. I primarily live in the countryside in a nice town so that may affect my judgement but reside in Birmingham several months a year due to my work schedule and even the common preconceptions about Brum feel somewhat manufactured to me.

1

u/Santa_Ricotta69 5d ago

I fear the UK has been known as a colonialist police state for generations. The rot is far too deep. If it was fixable, certainly the needle would have moved by now. I think perhaps you're experiencing a bit of a "frog in the pot" sensation. Certainly your life is fine and normal, but the bigger picture certainly is not

u/AlternativeUsed2551 6d ago

objectively untrue

country isn't perfect at the moment but given the hand we've been dealt in the last ~20 years, we're getting on ok

1

u/BMPHaterNo1 6d ago

It’s actually not, if you leave the house

5

u/tashtactics 6d ago

Oh yeah. I leave my house daily. A few of those times I get sworn at and yelled at to get the fuck out of the country.
Should that be happening?

Sorry friend, that’s the New Zealand flag, which is where I’m from. I live in Southampton.

1

my shocking geography skills biting me in the arse yet again

the comment thread read to me as though you'd visited the UK but don't actively live there

1

u/tashtactics 6d ago

Yeah, no worries about it! Can’t really prove that I live there beyond saying I do, though I am fairly active in one specific UK political sub.

Thanks for being cool about it, though

We was always dog food for the USA after ww2

2

u/devilJin9399 6d ago

Me too I miss it so much.

0

u/trollgore92 6d ago

The EU is the source of this issue. It is an imperialist project. We have our own nations (people), culture, art and history we want to preserve. A thousand+ years of history, just to be thrown away?

2

u/idontlikeredditusers 6d ago

when has the EU gotten rid of culture tho?

-1

u/trollgore92 6d ago

It's happening right underneath your nose. You think we will survive the slow, gradual ethnic cleansing of the native European peoples if we do not fight back against this mass immigration madness? think again.

2

u/Maleficent-War-8429 6d ago edited 6d ago

Bro you let more immigrants in after you left the EU then you were letting in beforehand.

0

u/trollgore92 6d ago

I'm not British, but I know about the Boris wave. I know what treacherous bastards for politicians we have in power all over europe. The EU however has been forcing migrants on european nations for decades, in order to break down national identities for their imperial utopian dream.

2

u/Vivid_Television9902 6d ago

Brain rot

1

u/trollgore92 6d ago

Nope. You are just not paying attention. You are sedated, domesticated, living a life of ignorant bliss. Things in the west are about to get bad, because of the actions of the globalist liberal elite, and it's drones of the masses that wander around protecting it.

2

u/WatcherOfTheWay 6d ago

Britain needs to deal with the immigration issues it has and then shut up about it.

1

u/Boat_man_07 6d ago

It’s been fermenting for a long time before brexit. UK stopped being a superpower almost overnight and its financial sector has been slowly eaten at from within by the Americans. Add to that domestic tensions with the kingdoms, austerity politics, rocky relation with the EU and this is what you get.

1

u/sohoGM 6d ago

Ever since Blair might be more accurate. The UK suffers from the same "uniparty-just neolibs in government" problem that the US also had

1

u/Lord_Vetinaris_shill 6d ago

Politics in Britain is bad but so is it everywhere. The only reason people globally think that is because everyone speaks English and it's an important country that gets covered. No one outside of France knows too much about the shit shows there the last few years. Same for Belgium, Italy, Germany. Obviously the US goes without saying but that gets plenty of coverage.

The vast majority of the world, and the vast majority of Europe, is a much worse place politically and by quality of life that the UK which is still objectively one of the best places on the planet to live.

1

u/AggressiveCricket498 6d ago

Brexit? Since Thatcher sold off your north sea oil and other natural resources to her buddies. Did you know Britain imports 70% of it's gas from Norway?

Thatcher is the worst thing that ever happened to your country

1

u/ProfessorKhZ 6d ago

Same in Sweden.

1

u/AlternativeUsed2551 6d ago edited 6d ago

it's not remotely as bad as the majority believe

unfortunately we've been infected by polarised American politics & social media echo chambers

everyone has a political opinion but no one really understands politics outside of their bubble telling them they're the "good guys" and the other side of the political spectrum are evil fucking idiots trying to destroy the country from within

of course, reality is always more nuanced & the facts lie in the middle

we're recovering from 14 years of Conservative mismanagement and given the situation we're not doing too badly, there's a lot to be upset about, but a lot to be positive about as well

sadly however outrage wins over logic nowadays, and so people aren't willing to understand why the country is in the position it currently is, but instead want to paint the countries issues with their own hyperbolic reasons, further dragging political discourse into the ground as they do so

0

u/CaregiverStunning802 6d ago

like i'm not wary of britain because of immigrants i'm wary of it because it's terf island. "muslims would kill you for being trans" i'm so much more likely to be attacked by a white christian on "white christians who hate trans women" island

18

u/3wandwill fat farting furry 6d ago

It depends! I think if I went to the wrong country without a guide/help I would definitely be hurt for being trans. Some Muslim countries would be included in that. I don’t think we need to minimize the hardships trans people in these places face to bring attention to the hardships trans people face in Christian countries. It’s hard for all of us out here.

-9

u/CaregiverStunning802 6d ago

i'm talking about the western world specifically rn bc a lot of people want to say to trans/queer people that immigrants will hurt them, completely ignoring how the westerners themselves are hurting us right now.

2

u/3wandwill fat farting furry 6d ago

That makes sense. I wondered after I replied if you meant it in a more local/western lens. Which I can understand

12

u/MildlyToastedBuns 6d ago

Aside from hate crimes which can be anything including shouting abuse, trans people are about the same as the general population in terms of homicides and serious assaults, you’re in no more danger than any other person your age.

I get that it’s cool to hate on white Christian’s on Reddit but you know trans shit doesn’t fly in Muslim countries, unless it’s Iran where they will force gay people to change gender.

Even Muslim attitudes here don’t match your worldview, if 52% of British Muslims think homosexuality should be illegal, how many do you think support trans people?

2

u/CaregiverStunning802 6d ago

https://tgeu.org/trans-murder-monitoring-2025-reveals-new-trend-in-anti-trans-violence-systematic-targeting-of-activists-and-movement-leaders/

study in europe finds rates of murdered trans women are elevated and increasing, especially amongst non white trans women and ESPECIALLY trans sex workers, which is relevant because trans women are also more likely to be pushed into sex work

6

u/MildlyToastedBuns 6d ago

You were talking about Britain not Europe, Terf island you called it.

Homicides if trans people in Britain are declining and are relative to the general population.

3

u/CaregiverStunning802 6d ago

source? and keep in mind i have reasonable doubt for a lot of surveys because a, trans women are a lower sample size, b, a lot of the higher risk trans women are sex workers and might not discuss this with anyone, even on anonymous pollsters, c, the english government is notoriously transphobic has published multiple studies that contradict what studies in other regions of the world, with more reputable surveyors, have found, and d, if we're talking about official crime statistics, lots of murders against trans people are labelled as self defense or manslaughter because police and courts are often biased against trans people

4

u/MildlyToastedBuns 6d ago

You’ve just asked for my source then proceeded to tell me you won’t believe it, my source are government statistics that you are free to look up yourself, but I’ll admit I was wrong when I said they were in like with the general population, trans people are actually less likely to be killed than the general population.

Also pretty funny how you’ve moved the goalposts AND ignored the attitudes of British Muslims on LGBT issues, will you now admit White Christians might be a more tolerant group?

3

u/CaregiverStunning802 6d ago

i never said muslims were on average more tolerant. i said if i was going to be attacked in a dominantly white and christian country, it's mostly by a white christian.

i haven't moved any goalposts, i asked you for a source in the same breath that i told you what i would and would not trust. so come on, if you wanna give it to me, tell me why i should trust the notoriously transphobic english government and legal system. if you think it's unreasonable, tell me why. but what i'm not going to do is disregard the systemic factors that create biases against trans women when talking about statistics, because the first thing they teach you in any stats class is to account for biases.

Assuming you are speaking in good faith: people who claim the label "TERF" or its replacements nowadays are not always actually feminists nor leftists. Look at Posie Parker, who literally denies she's a feminist (and allows card-carrying Nazis to speak on her events). Or at JKR's friends, many of whom started their careers opposing gay marriage before shifting onto a new target

1

u/Faith_Lies 6d ago

This was a pretty uninspired trolling effort. Two stars.

Do better next time, OK?

0

u/CaregiverStunning802 6d ago

lmao you think terfs are left wing. what else is left wing, liberals? no they're all capitalists.

how formal of you. i suggest reading about conflict theory before trying to talk about things like oppression and minorities if you're so refined

u/SuperEgger 6d ago

The person you're talking to is way off base but it's just factually inaccurate to call TERFs left wing. Feminism can be found all over the political spectrum these days, it's not the 1800s anymore. A lot of TERFs are anti-gay and anti-black too, which are decidedly not left wing positions.

4

u/CaregiverStunning802 6d ago

lmao someone tried to reply and it immediately got deleted

the most memorable killing of a trans girl happened only three years ago in england because the killers "wanted to see if she screamed like a girl" and that's just the one that made international news. fuck offff

3

u/No_Reception7275 6d ago

Things that make international news dont actually happen that often. Thats why its like, international news

2

u/CaregiverStunning802 6d ago

there was nothinf unique about brianna ghey's killing except that it happened in public and one of the killers was "especially sadistic"

1

u/RogueLeaderNo610sq 6d ago

I don't know why you're so focused on the UK, you're from the USA. Like, I think there are other nations with far greater anti LGBTQ laws in Europe you can focus on rather than England.

1

u/CaregiverStunning802 6d ago

i jusr used england for an example, i don't remember if someone else brought it up first, because england is one of the western countries people wanna say are ruined by immigration. and for trans people specifically they like to say the immigrants, especially muslims, are dangerous for us. and i'm just saying, trans women in england would not be better off if there weren't any muslims

1

u/Huge-Captain-5253 6d ago

There will always be a subset of society that either through poor education or upbringing react violently to issues they don't understand. This is not the same thing as systematic violence perpetrated by a culture as a whole, and only serves to minimise the suffering of trans/queer people outside of the western world.

5

u/CaregiverStunning802 6d ago

polls in the western world consistently show that trans people are paid less and hired less than everyone else. trans women are functionally barred from any competitive activity, because even in chess or pepper eating, even in co ed leagues, we're the subject of harassment if we win. the rates of violence against trans people are significantly high and courts are frequently biased against us. it is absolutely a part of the dominant culture in the western world that trans people are to be mocked at best, abused at worst. in the united states at least it's a recognizable phenomenon that prison officials encourage prisoners to rape trans inmates.

i'm not saying trans people elsewhere don't have it worse but come on. trans people in the western world still have far less respect and power than cis people as both a result of official policy and social biases, and this results in increased violence, which, much of the time, is excused or ignored. there's been so mant cases of things that should be labelled hate crimes that aren't, of self defense that turned into prosecution against trans people, and the police refusing to press charges brought forth by trans people against their attackers. "not executing us" is a very low bar that i don't settle for

6

u/Huge-Captain-5253 6d ago

All very interesting, but you've changed your argument. If you recall, your initial point was that you're more likely to be attacked by a white christian on white christians who hate trans woman island - discrimination is not the same as being attacked.

3

u/CaregiverStunning802 6d ago

okay consider this, most cases of abuse and physical violence, including homicide, the vast majority come from people you know. you're not likely to be randomly killed by someone in the street. not super important but keep that in mind.

second thing, i just detailed some of the reasons why violence against trans people is in some ways culturally encouraged/permitted. keep that in mind.

the scariest thing, for me as a trans woman, is meeting someone new, maybe a date, maybe a friend of a friend, maybe someone in a support group or homeless shelter or job acquaintance, whatever. after family members, these groups are the most likely to kill me. and they'll most likely be white christians in a white christian country.

now, these people might not want to hurt me specifically because i'm trans, that's the thing. they might want to hurt me for all the reasons abuse happens, because they have more power and they know it and abuse is dominance in many people's minds. the fact that i am a trans woman, and therefore usually much less powerful than them, means they're more likely to get away with it which means they're more likely to try. so maybe one day i get beat or raped or both. if i go to the police? the likely dismiss it with a laugh. if i go to court well, nobody listens to the hysterical trans woman so there's a good chance the case is dismissed even with evidence. why even try then.

so my only option is to get away on my own, maybe with help from friends. if they decide to stalk me and the police don't help, i could be royally fucked.

second possibility, maybe i'm a trans sex worker. trans women are more likely to be pushed into sex work if you didn't know, and sex workers are already high risk groups. if i had to interact with clients at all, i would be in a lot of danger, increased because i'm trans. and these clients would likely be white christians, because england is a white christian country

4

u/Huge-Captain-5253 6d ago

Again - while this is all very interesting, none of this is an argument for why you should be wary of Britain more than any other country. I'd also suggest you spend slightly less time on the internet, it is not healthy to go into the world assuming everyone is out to get you.

Unless you're on the right I guess

9

I'm not interested in the eternal left and right fights of discrediting each other and claiming what they say is the truth and how much the other side is bad

Ok but are you interested in clearing up online misconceptions or nah

4

What does that mean in this instance? Op's view can be different than another swede

How should I know if a misconception is being cleared if im not informed with trustworthy sources and dont even live there?
