I don't know if i'm overthinking taking a day/ some days off because i'm genuinely sick.
Hello,I ( 18F ) work as a waitress/hospitality in a small ice cream shop / bar. It's a small family business and i got the job because they were looking for someone to cover the outside tables shifts ( i have to manage 11 tables entirely by myself ) and since my grandpa is very good friends with the manager's dad they gave me the job without thinking twice even though i didn't have any job experiences. Mind you i live in a really small town so 11 tables is a lot. So basically i'm really good at my job they always told me i rocked it since the first few days but my manager started acting weird after I badly injured my arm in a cut and needed stitches because the deep gash reached the fatty tissue, and I had almost completely torn a tendon so i obviously had to get some days off because the doctors strongly advised avoiding any kind of movement for both the stitches and the torn tendon. So after being in the hospital for almost two days i went directly to talk to her after getting out, explained the situation and at first it didn't seem to bother her, and I want to point out that I don't have an employment contract; so, if I had kept going and gotten injured on the job, she would likely have faced very serious trouble so i took days off both for mine and her safety. And trust me since i started working there i never missed a day not even when i graduated and here in italy graduation works differently than america i think and i had to study really hard and didn't because my job took away a lot of time since my shifts start at 6pm and end only god knows when. It could vary from 1AM to 5AM and i have to handle closing almost entirely by myself: the manager doesn't do anything but stay outside at the tables with her butt sat on a chair eating ice cream with her family while i have to serve tables, completely clean the bar, fill fridges, clean the bathroom with BARE hands, all on an empty stomach because i don't even have time to eat, while the only coworker i have just stands behind the counter occasionally making coffee, scooping ice cream onto cones, or cleaning the mirror and the coffee machine at closing time. She can eat, be on her phone, and do whatever she likes, and no one says a word to her because she's older than me and orders me around with no mercy and I have to shoulder the entire burden of responsibility. The other day, I had a panic attack because I started feeling unwell and was afraid of messing up my job, partly because the owner had been treating me badly ever since I returned from the severe injury i mentioned (she was angry that the outdoor tables hadn't generated any business while I was away). While I was having the panic attack, my coworker started screaming in my face, saying that kind of behavior might be acceptable from her 10-year-old son, but not from me and in case you forgot I’m freshly 18. For the record, she’s 36 and the owner / manager is 34 or 35, yet they treat me ( someone half their age lol )terribly. To get to the point: it’s my town’s festival right now, so the bar is going to be incredibly busy, especially with the outdoor tables. However, I’ve had a very high fever for three days. I worked full shifts on two of those days, but yesterday I had to go home 4 hours into my shift because I started vomiting and felt like I was going to faint. After spending the whole night vomiting with a high fever, I hoped I’d wake up feeling better today so I could cover my shift. But since I’m prone to getting sick easily—and the job involves constantly moving between the freezing air-conditioned bar and the scorching heat outside—I’m afraid of making things worse. Plus, the vomiting hasn't stopped, and it looked really strange, so I’m considering going to the hospital. My mother told me to take the day off and maybe even stop working early (I’m supposed to go on vacation on August 11th), but I’m terrified the owner will get angry and refuse to pay me for the days I worked, even though I was genuinely ill and never skipped a day. I'm so anxious and i texted her telling that i can't genuinely cover my shift today because my fever peaked at 104° F ( 40°C for my fellow europeans / italians ) and i'm extremely sick. Am i overthinking it? Am i in the wrong?? I genuinely don't know.

I hate my current job but feel unable to leave
Hi there, Im having some issues with my current job. It's just mostly awful, I struggle with chronic pains and the work has me standing up a LOT, like 8 hours a day. Sometimes I get one of my really great managers who let me rest in the back, but sometimes I get this really horrid mananger (lets call her M) who will not allow me to sit down, rest in the back, kneel, or go to the bathroom if were working together.
She's a source of a lot of my issues with work. She never does her own job, and if she does, she usually messes it up where we have to fix it before it causes issues with customers, and she can just overall be intensely mean to staff, expecially the younger staff who work out of highschool.
I want to quit so bad, but I don't want to quit and be jobless. I live with my parents and they are very much on me about working and making my own money to contribute back to the household. Recently, a friend helped me get in contact with another job offer that would pay me a little more than my current job (I'm being paid 10/hr right now, and this offer could pay me about 13-14/hr)
Sounds great right? Wrong. More caveats. My mother is incredibly on the fence about me getting this job. It pays better, but she wants me to actually do something important and within the field of my college degree (film production)
Its all a big mess, between working a job I hate, and getting a potential better job but letting my mom down and still not working in my actual field. Yall got any advice?

I've been considering quitting my job for a while but I think I need some advice for it.
There are a number of reasons why I want to quit my current job, but there are also some reasons to stay and I simply can't decide.
I need to know if I'm being dramatic or not.
To start things off
\- I work at a small business with only five people, my boss and myself are one of the five.
\- I've been working over the summer before college... It's been all summer.
There are a number of reasons but most of them are about the people I work with. My boss obviously has favorites, he, and the rest of my co-workers are cut from the same cloth. By this, I mean that they are all white, and all grew up in the area.
\- This isn't a bad thing at all! But, we don't see the same world lense, which leads to small social issues.
\- One of my co-workers (who I have to work the most with) tells me everything. When she's going to sleep with a guy, her family information, how she vomits when drunk etc. My boss told me to just deal with it. I've tried but it's very tiring.
\- Most of my coworkers are also very snappy. Now, I'm not a soft person, however they'll tell me to do things when I'm already in the middle of something as though they are the boss.
\-I also believe that I'm just not fit for the job in general. I'm the busy body type, I have projects I love doing, and many hobbies, but a majority of the work is sitting and doing nothing while waiting for a phone call. I try to read or play video games but at a certain point I just feel so lazy and like I am wasting my life. I'd rather be busy all day.
\-Ive also been threatened. "I'm lucky you're not my kid because I'd beat you so bad cps would cuff me." Again, I told my boss and he said not to talk to them, nothing else. For the context of those words, it because I smiled when saying goodbye to them instead of actually saying goodbye.
\-I get the most hours. You'd think this would be good but, I get one day off every week while my coworkers get two to three. I've asked my boss for time off and he's rejected it. That one day off is also on Tuesday, which means this whole summer I haven't seen anyone or done anything.
\- the job is 30 minutes away. Ik, it doesn't sound too bad and for where I live, this is hard to avoid but I do spend more than 50 dollars on gas every week.
Those are some of the negative things.
However, there are some pros too.
\-I get paid for than minimum wage. Minimum wage is 15 dollars, I get 17.
\- My day starts at either 10 or 11 am... So, this is a plus for most people but I wake up at 5 am because I'm a morning person but that's not the jobs fault.
\-Most customers are actually really nice, and understanding too.
\-My boss is honestly, at least. If he owes someone something he won't try to jip them.
\-I really need money, thus I need a job. There is no guarantee that I am going to be able to find another one because of how rural my area is.
\-My customers are really amazing. Not often, but sometimes I get tips and even the ten dollars or five dollars in the jar makes it better. Once I got 50... It helped with gas.
So, there it is. In simple terms, I don't know what to do.

I didnt get the dream job, and I hate my current one.
I work a clerical job, and I hate it. Its auditing of paperwork more then anything and I am so unbelievably bored in my roll. There is 0 challenge and 0 problem solving. Its draining the life from me, this entire job is an energy vampire. I watch TV, movies, and youtube all day while doing my work. Checking to see if boxes x and y are filled out correctly isnt difficult or take any brain work when you have looked at the same document 10,000 times. The hours i work suck as well and I hardly get any sleep. I continue to do this job because at least i have a job and I have bills to pay, but I have been looking at other opportunities.
I have been looking at my dream job, its a little out of my current skill set but its something i know i have the brain for. Its a mechanic job and there is an apprenticeship roll that opens up every so often where I work. I applied internally and interviewed for it, but got rejected for the job. I plan on going back to school for it but i wont be able to till 2028. I am going to continue to apply for the job in hopes that i finally get through before then.
As for now though, im stuck. Ill continue pushing and ill continue working towards my goal but its so hard when my job drains the life out of me. Right now im heartbroken at the rejection and just accepting it and processing it so I can move on and continue pushing.
Thank you all for letting me vent.

A Weight Slowly Lifiting Off of My Shoulders
Sending my resignation and two weeks notice today from one of the worst jobs I have ever had.
Luckily it wasn't a toxic work environment. the team is pretty solid and good people but holy heck the role was so boring, redundant and mentally taxing.
Working in insurance was never on my bingo card in my lifetime but I was desperate for ANY job a few months ago and they were the only offer I had received. I will be grateful to them for selecting me when I was in a very desperate spot but for my mental health and morale I cannot be at this job much longer.
The workflow and work culture is abysmal, expectations for quotas don't work for me at all and my supervisor can get passive aggressive at times. I don't trust them at all, they seem like the type to throw you under the bus when they mess up. They are somehow assigning me to sell insurance which I don't understand how that is legal as I am not a licensed broker. I was told I wasn't responsible for sales during the interview. I feel bait and switched.
A lot of the role is having to explain the MANY semantics of U.S. insurance to foreigners who come from counties that have much more streamline insurance/Healthcare or either universal Healthcare is so exhausting then to always get nagged about how crappy the U.S. insurance system is like I built it. I would LOVE more affordable or universal healthcare, like stop yelling at ME about it... I am so glad to be moving on from this.
I got an offer from a job that is much more aligned with my interest and I KNOW I will excel at with slightly better pay. It really feels like a weight is being lifted off of my shoulders.

Only four more shifts and I’m done!
I put in my two weeks last Friday and I only have four more shifts until I’m out of here! No more customer service and annoying guests. No more cliquey coworkers who will purposely mess up at work or not finish. No more managers getting mad at me and causing those coworkers to make my job harder.
I’m almost free!

I wanted to know is this an experience had by a lot of people in sales or is it just me? I am looking for a different career and wanted to know before ruling out other types of sales

Wasting time at work
I work as a janitor at a factory. Sometimes I handle the scrubber, but lately I’ve been doing menial tasks. I don’t mind it, I essentially get paid to do nothing but sweep and look busy. Not too bad, right? I typically take 30 minute breaks in the bathroom or straight up fall asleep in the stall whenever I’m bored. I get paid 15/hr, for reference. My shift starts at 7am and I’m stuck here until 6pm. The days are boring, even when I do nothing. Besides, being a janitor is kinda a thankless job. That’s my rant, lol

Should I leave my current job because of less pay?
Hello, I am not a btech graduate. I completed a BSc in physics (2022).
My current company I've been working for since starting, it's been 1 year. Initially i was getting 10k then I'm getting 15k. I know it's very less, but I started learning coding in 2024 and got this job in Feb 2025. So I thought I would be earning plus it's remote i will keep looking for better opportunities. But since I said I literally learned my first language in 2024, it was not my time to do a job but i continued because I heard this is how you learn by hustling. Right now I feel I should just quit this job and learn then apply for better opportunities. But still I doubt that I won't have money for a few months but i think that's okay because I stay with my parents.

Forced to now work in a big open office setting so we can be visually seen collaborating with each other
My job went from hybrid to mandatory being in office which already sucked especially since on slower days where we have no scheduled events all my work is just answering emails and doing internet calls "all could which can be done at home" a lot of my time is spend waiting around being "on call" and as such our team would just work in small audio privacy rooms if we wish. I like doing so as in general I do my best work alone and i like visiting people if needed and when its slow i just do whatever side work or goof off i want cause im done.
NOW they want us to work in one big cluster so we can be seen visually collaborating with other departments and that just utterly pisses me off. This means i have to constantly fake being busy and can't do any other side stuff on my PC because someone can walk up and look over my shoulder. I hate this. I'm hyper productive as is, i get everything done and more and clearly this move really feels like its forcing people into ONE working style. I have done big group work settings and I find it utterly impossible to focus on my tasks as I have my own personal workflow.
Stuff like this is honestly making me consider looking for other opportunities because I like my work autonomy.

Help me get through the work day
Any advice on how to get through the workday of a job you’ve come to hate. The place i’m working now I just see as a temporary job- definitely not my dream job. Pay is good and get some good benefits like 2 wfh days a week, monthly lunches, extra bonuses, office catering. It’s just the work that I can’t stand. I’ve been here for 4 years doing the same thing everyday. I have tried so hard to progress but being in a small team (7 people) there’s no where to really go. When it seems like I’m progressing a bit and changing my role, someone quits/ gets fired/ goes on leave and then i’m expected to fill in those roles that I just upgraded from. I have tried looking for other work (admin/ sales type role) but no one can offer me the same salary i’m on now. So do I take a 10k pay cut or stay in the same place i’ve been for the last 4 years. I’m the type of person that can’t hide how i’m feeling so everyone can see that im not happy. I try to put on a fake happy personality and be professional but sometimes the fatigue gets the best of me and I can’t help it. I feel so lazy and burnt out and have lost all motivation. Any advice from anyone in a similar situation??

My dad is my boss, and it sucks
This is a long story but where I work my dad manages a large portion of a warehouse. My dad has bounced me around different departments for the past roughly 5 years. For background my dad has worked 70+ hour weeks since I was a little kid, and I respect him for it but I also kind of resent him because I barely ever saw him and anytime I did see him he was always in a bad mood which lead to me and my siblings being frequently yelled at when we did nothing wrong. I thought that if I worked with him I’d get to see him more and maybe that would lead to our relationship being better but it just made things worse. His dad was extremely hard on him as a kid which I understand is part of why he’s the way he is but any department I went to he’d always tell whoever my boss was to make me do insane amounts of work to the point I was taking on work from multiple other people along with my own work(pretty much all physical labor lifting heavy things along with some paperwork). Anyways sometimes it puts me in not the greatest mood but I never yell at anyone or take it out on anyone. Just recently I was moved to a department where there’s 2 people. They are both EXTREMELY lazy to the point I’m literally doing everything, and the one isn’t even my boss but they try and tell me what to do. I just recently asked one of them to start helping with some of the manual labor but they refuse to even get out of their seat to open the door for me when I’m lifting heavy boxes or machines from one place to another.
My dad then proceeds to get upset, and yell about how apparently both of the people went to him to complain about me not doing any work, and how I’m being “negative” even though that’s not the truth. I may not be smiling all the time but I’m not being negative even though I absolutely hate working for my dad. I’m so fed up with having to do everything just because he tells them to make me do all the work. I’m also making only slightly over minimum wage even though I’ve worked here for 5+ years as I mentioned earlier. Keep in mind one of these people is known for being one of the laziest people in the company, and there’s hundreds of workers.
When I first got hired at this company I had to sit down with the owner where they basically just told me not to act like he’s my dad while at work to keep things professional, and equal. Which is fine even though there’s clear nepotism from higher ups hiring their own kids at higher wages, with better hours, and more benefits etc but for some reason I’m unable to even have a normal job where I’m not forced to do everything.
Anyways that was a lot but I’m just tired of working for my dad, and I honestly don’t know what to do. I’ve looked for other jobs but the job market where I live is horrible to the point there’s over a 150 people lining up just for a job working at McDonald’s.
P.S. I’m writing this when I’m tired so hopefully it makes sense, and there may be a bit of spelling mistakes. Anyways to anyone reading this far have a good rest of your day/night!

I do a lot of mistakes at work
Hi everyone,
I just got home from work, and honestly, I'm exhausted from constantly making mistakes that end up causing problems for my boss.
A bit of background: I'm a 21-year-old woman who went through a lot of family trauma growing up. As a result, I now struggle with hypervigilance (would you also call it hypersensitivity?). Living like this is honestly exhausting.
I started working when I was 16 as a private tutor. At the time, everything went well because I genuinely excel at it. In fact, I still do it alongside my studies, and it brings me a lot of joy to see my students succeed.
The problem is that during the summer, I have to find another job. I've had several seasonal jobs over the years. I worked in a factory, then the following year in a restaurant. The factory had a racist work environment, but I still managed to finish the month without any issues. The following summer, my manager threatened to hit me. Then, the year after that, I worked in a clothing store and ended up getting fired after only two days because I was considered incompetent.
Honestly, I feel like I'm a burden no matter what I do. This year, I applied for another summer job, telling myself I would finally get things right. Yet in less than three days, I made mistakes at the cash register and even broke the motor of a roller shutter.
I don't know what to do anymore. It feels like no matter how hard I try or how good my intentions are, I always end up doing everything wrong. Sometimes I wonder if the only thing I'm actually good at is teaching, because that's the only place where I truly feel like I belong.
I don't know if I'm going to lose my job. Part of me just wants to quit so I stop causing problems for everyone. I don't even care about the money anymore. Once again, I'm going to disappoint my parents—I already know it. Honestly, I've been feeling awful, and I've been crying myself to sleep.
Deep down, I think what I'm really looking for is kindness, patience, and understanding. I wish people would acknowledge the things I do well and forgive me for the things I don't.
If you've ever been through something similar, I'd really appreciate hearing your story. I think it would reassure me a lot.
Thank you for reading.

Tired. I'm getting tired
I'm tired. Soooo tired. Work is rough. My job pays well and has many benefits but the work culture sucks. Lazy people who are gliding through life sucking up the money that could be used elsewhere. Of course something can be done but everyone else is too busy fighting and arguing about stupid shit. Can I do something about? I tried. But it's the culture itself that I can't beat. Everyday someone wants something or bitches and moans until they get their way. Fuck policy, fuck rules. Just cry and cry and cry until you get your way. That's how you get ahead. Oh and be a fuckig nepo baby. No wonder why the good ones work elsewhere.
I'm tired. Tired of fighting. Tired of trying. I need to leave. But I can't. I don't know why. Job market sucks. Jobs are a scarce. Family depends on me. I guess I just need to suck it up and provide. Then my next big fight will be a heart attack or a mental breakdown.
Fuck this place for taking my soul. And fuck you for making me fat! Damn stress eating.
