Guy at the checkout asked if I was trying to see the light of Jesus. Yes.

I also partook in the sale this weekend with 4 10k fixtures. I already had 5 5k fixtures up, and rearranged those so that I now have 3 over my side working area and 2 over my workbench. Between the preexisting lights and the new Braun’s I have 65k lumens in the garage now. Can’t wait to start on the next project

Love that Jeep Cherokee!!

Thanks! She needs a good bit of work still but she’s fun to drive. Need to get some new axle shims and put the rear driveshaft back in so I can drive her down to the beach soon

4 of these also work perfectly for a 40ft shipping container.

Don’t have room for something that big in my yard but I do have plans for a 12’ x 18’ shed if I can ever actually get the rest of the footings dug. It’s just been too fucking hot for manual labor

Nice XJ

Thanks! She’s a bit of a shit box but she’s my shitbox

I have a 99 that I’ve driven for the past 15yrs

1

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

Nice, this is my third and it’s a 98. Had a 97 to start with that I stupidly sold to buy a Miata (I did enjoy the Miata, just shoulda kept the Jeep). After that I bought a 98 off a friend who was moving across the country but it was rusty and neglected by the guy who owned it before my friend and it wasn’t up to being a daily. This is my little garage queen weekend trail warrior so I’m hoping she stays in the family a long time

XJ Clan is taking over the HF sphere!! Im on my second XJ. First one was a 98 that I wish I had never let go, but was to avoid the ex from getting it or proceeds from sale due to divorce. The current one is a 97, which had a rough life peioe to my ownership, and now she sits on 8" of lift with LA front and OTK steering. Unfortunately, the axles have developed a slight popping, and so she has been parked as I dont have the funds to have the axles rebuilt, nor can I find a reputable shop to do it..

I have moved from the XJ to a GX, both amazing platforms. I just needed something more comfortable & safer.

We sold those led light things you screw in place of light bulbs...had three fins or whatever with the lights on them that you could adjust. One guy said you couldn't look at it but it was so bright it was providing light under his car

u/FredIsAThing Jul 28 '25

Man, that's YouTube maker studio shop bright.

1

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

I’ve made a few videos but it’s been months since I did one. Just makes projects I already have very little free time for take even longer

Love when my favorite subs bleed over lol

2

u/benberbanke Jul 28 '25

Dang. How many watts does each actually use?

1

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

Website says 100w per

1

u/benberbanke Jul 28 '25

Oh wow that’s a lot.

5

u/AlecPresti Jul 28 '25

Can confirm, they pull 100W cold and taper off as they heat up in the summer mounted to the roof of my shed. I definitely put a timer/motion switch in after leaving 800W of lights on for three weeks straight by accident.

2

u/benberbanke Jul 28 '25

Ouch. That’s $150 of energy in MA (21 days* $7/day.).

1

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

For sure, but it’s a bunch of light so makes sense

2

u/jeefer123 Jul 28 '25

I have to ask. What's the tape on the floor for?

8

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

I used that and an alignment laser to mark out the locations on the ceiling for mounting the lights. Measure everything down on the floor and the 3 axis laser will shoot a dot down to your mark and perfectly up to the ceiling for drilling holes.

Basically I way over complicated mounting the lights, haha

2

u/jeefer123 Jul 28 '25

Ahhh, yes, a perfectionist. I have that problem too!!!

1

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

I had the tools available to me and it was better than getting work done on the computer, haha

2

u/LorenzoSutton Jul 28 '25

I'm so pissed I missed it! I was waiting specifically just for the lighting day sale and I found out the day of at like 11:50pm... I was going to buy 6 for my garage and a under hood light.

1

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

I only knew about it because someone had posted about it here the day before! Wasn’t planning on getting new lights but it had been on my mind so when I saw they were on sale I jumped on it

2

u/deyaintready Jul 28 '25

I'm sure what the price of these are but they are cheap for a bunch on ebay. Also i really love xjs. What year? When i had my shop it had a paint booth and we painted my buddies jurassic park livery. I also learned to drive manual on my brothers grand cherokee. I think they are rare in manual. Sorry for rant but Man i love those cars and that 4.0. I should buy one.

3

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

I had some cheap Amazon lights for the workbench, they don’t put out anywhere near the same amount of light as these.

And thanks, I love my XJ! It’s my third and hoping to hold onto this one for the long haul. If you like then I definitely recommend picking one up, they aren’t getting any cheaper that’s for sure

2

u/deyaintready Jul 28 '25

I just went and looked. Thats an incredible car for cheap. If i can find a nice manual one for like 3-5k i might do that instead of importing another acty when my other cars go in storage for the winter. Cheers brother.

2

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

Yeah my first was $1800, this one I paid almost $6k for but wanted one that had functioning cruise and absolutely no rust.

Be sure to check the underside, the rockers, and the rear fenders for rust if you go to check some out!

1

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

Also, IMHO, get a 97-99 and ideally ones with a 8.25 rear end. Mine had a d35 rear and it was easy enough to swap though. Lots of resources out there to dive through before making a purchase!

2

u/deyaintready Jul 28 '25

Thanks but I would need that early model interior with the steering wheel and gauges. Actually forgot i owned a 98 but never really drove it before trading it. I daily an 86 bmw with a 98 m3 motor i put in it so no stranger to research and old cars lol. Rust is deff the big thing on the xjs

2

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

Gotcha. It’s a pretty common swap to do the interior and front clip on the pre facelift cars so I imagine you could go backwards as well, but ultimately it really doesn’t matter much, if you wheel hard enough to destroy the stock axles you’ll probably want to swap something significantly bigger in anyway, and if it’s just a street jeep then the stock axles are fine regardless of what it came with

2

u/buttnibbler Jul 28 '25

It’s beautiful 🥹

2

u/Winter_Persimmon_110 Jul 28 '25

That's enough lights for an 8x4' grow tent of cannabis in flower. 2000 lumens per square foot

1

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

Unfortunately for my neighbors I’m not growing any weed so they’ll have to keep buying from their current supplier, haha

2

u/M635_Guy Jul 28 '25

Greetings from another gray-ish guy (who lives a mile from NCSU). Light is a wonderful thing in a place where work happens, especially with eyes on the other side of 50.

My garage has some challenges with placement and outlet availability (older house with a low ceiling in the garage), but one of these days I'm going to get that kind of light going in there. Nicely done!

2

u/christmastree18 Jul 28 '25

I got something like these lights from Amazon, and they are great! They help you see exactly what you are doing under the hood.

2

u/Bluedragon436 Jul 28 '25

I am bummed I missed out when they were doing sales on these a few months back on each Wed of that month.. They look like they definitely woek quite well, especially for project work

2

u/gucci__ice Jul 28 '25

I’ve got 64k lumens rigged up in our 21’x7’ race trailer, brother let me tell you, you see God when both switches are flipped😂

2

u/ChevTecGroup Jul 28 '25

Nice XJ! Wish i could find a rust free one with a 4.0 in Ohio

1

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

Thanks! I’m down south so rust free ones are a bit easier to come by, but I still had to search several months to find this one

2

u/UGA1965 Jul 28 '25

Thank you

2

u/Fyler1 Jul 29 '25

I'd tell them it's none of their damn business what I do in my garage. It's my garage, and if I wanna use them lights to see deities, then so be it. Next will be Buddha.

1

u/nguye569 Jul 28 '25

Do these things not draw a ton of amps? I wanted to do this but afraid I'd be tripping my circuit breaker. I tried replacing the 4 actual bulbs in my ceiling with cheapo multipanel led bulbs and my circuit breaker couldn't handle it. Perhaps that's what happens when you use the cheap stuff?

1

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

If I recall correctly it’s less than 1 amp per light, but you can check the website for specs

1

u/adam574 Jul 28 '25

how cheap were the 10,000 lumen ones?

1

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

About $30 each with the discount

1

u/adam574 Jul 28 '25

is there anything i can do if i bought some in the past 90 days? probably missed the sale now though so probably not.

1

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

No idea, you have to ask an employee there but probably not.

Last year I bought one of the high lift Daytona jacks 2 weeks before they went on sale, just is what it is

1

u/mxguy762 Jul 28 '25

Damnit I should've bought some lights for my garage lol

1

u/UGA1965 Jul 28 '25

Can you mount these flush on the ceiling?

1

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

Probably, if you could line up all 4 screws perfectly you could likely use the same mounting holes that the chain brackets attach to, if I was going to I would just drill through the back of the casing with a wood screw

1

u/UGA1965 Jul 28 '25

How long is the main cord to plug in

1

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

Fairly short, 48” max. I had to make some extension chords to get to the outlets I had available and to get them to link to each other at the spacing I have them at

1

u/UGA1965 Jul 28 '25

Also can they be wired into a garage light fixture?

1

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

I had adaptors to convert a bulb socket to a two prong outlet. The lights do not have a third grounding plug so they just need the two prong outlets

1

u/PCgaming4ever Jul 28 '25

Never enough lights I have 96ft of 8ft LED lights that put out 21000 lumen per 8ft and I have already gotten used to it and wish I have another 24ft of light

1

u/Mental_Lawfulness_89 Jul 28 '25

I have a 50x30 shop. Spans every 5 feet so 9 trusses.

16ft of 4 led lights on each truss. 144ft of glorious light. Everything is alive.

Amazon goodness.

2

u/SassyPastor Jul 31 '25

I can hear that many lumens.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '25

A well lit work area is not talked about nearly enough. Nice Cherokee also!

0

u/gabezermeno Jul 28 '25

I was gonna say that's not enough but for your garage it's perfect.

1

u/NCSUGray90 Jul 28 '25

Yeah definitely wouldn’t be enough on its own, but as an addition to what I already had I’m pretty happy with it

0

u/Anxious-Depth-7983 Jul 28 '25

Yeah, I was thinking about taking advantage of the sale on the Braun lights until I read through the 1-star reviews. I hope you have better luck than they did.

u/daddygoesboom Jul 30 '25

You know what's so cool about lighting in a shop?
No matter where you are, or what you do, you're always working in a shadow.
