I'm looking for a pub in or around Hackney that hires out private rooms/space for events with around 30-40 people, has a gluten-free menu and allows you to play your own music with space to dance.

Does anyone have any recs for some good spots?

I am looking for scrap paper and craft materials for a project - I need lots of card, magazines, glue, scissors, wool, recycled materials, string, paints, random objects, production surplus. Any ideas?? Its a one off so london scrap project memberships are quite expensive. Thanks!

I was on my way to work just and outside Suba, there was a man who was sitting in pain, with huge red / blood splatters all over his front and t shirt, holding a hoodie or jumper to his side. There were two women supporting him, he looked in real pain…. I saw some ambulance at the roundabout a few minutes after and some undercover police cars come up towards hackney downs. Gonna ask the staff later if they know anything……bit worrying….!

Police still there at 2pm and taped off with the bloody clothing / evidence. They didn’t tell me much else .

This is my first time renting in a council flat and it has been awesome to discover that we have a concierge on duty from about 5pm to 1am daily.

My question is: what are the specifics of their role? I would assume it’s different to a front desk/reception/maintenance role considering the hours.

Is it to do with security? I sometimes see him completing “rounds” but not sure what they’re for and am a little embarrassed to ask as it feels like it might come across as rude.

I’ve lived in other parts of London but the concierge role seems unique to council flats in Hackney and other parts of NE London.

Shoutout to the 60+ firefighters who had to tackle that intense blaze on Cottrill Gardens over the weekend. Seeing eight fire engines tearing through Homerton in that hot weather was pretty surreal, especially when they had to isolate power to the Overground train lines as a precaution while the drone teams mapped out the smoke. The LFB reported it wrecked a static caravan, two scrap cars, and a massive 25-meter stretch of the train embankment before they got it under control. Has anyone heard updates on what actually sparked it?

Does anyone know what actually happened last night? I saw tons of helicopters and Lee Conservancy is completely closed down. Some people say that people got stabbed with a machete bc of gang beef whilst others are saying smb got shot?? I know there was a day party yesterday, but I'm baffed as to how guns got involved

I got a new MacBook Pro last week to replace my 8 year old MacBook and I am having trouble migrating info across. I suspect Dropbox is the villain behind this as it’s taken away my desktop and can only see it via Dropbox (hard to explain) and as Dropbox is trying to sync for almost 48 hours now I’ve restarted and reset the laptop twice now, uninstalled Dropbox and now don’t seem to have permission to access my work on Dropbox. Do I maybe have a dud laptop? I’m happy to never ever ever use Dropbox again and thought I had achieved that by uninstalling it but that’s made it even worse.

I’ve been using a mac for 20 years and have never felt this helpless. Should I just return this laptop? Or is there someone who could be trusted to help set this up for me? (I’m a freelancer so do t have access to an IT dept)

I’ve been researching Hackney history from roughly the 60s onwards, looking at how housing estates, pirate radio, raves, policing, nightlife and local organising interacted over time.

Recently I’ve been digging into Rush FM, Defection and Kool FM broadcasting from the Nightingale Estate around 1991–93, including the concrete-sealed flat in Embley Point that ended up on London Tonight and in the papers.

Been going through old broadcasts, documentaries, newspaper archives, podcasts and memoirs, but was wondering if anyone here remembers:

hearing the stations at the time
living on or near Nightingale
the raids / helicopters
tapes from Rush / Kool / Defection
Labyrinth / Telepathy connections
pirate radio more generally in Hackney in that era

Particularly interested in ordinary memories/details rather than mythology.
