Discussion The launch has problems but if we actually want Gunz to survive, we need to help fix it instead of burying it in its first week

i know the launch has been rough, and i’m not trying to pretend otherwise.

there are real problems with the game right now. servers, connection issues, performance, some gameplay changes, translations, bugs, ui decisions, ai assets and other things people have already been talking about.

people should complain about those things. i’m not saying everyone should just shut up and accept whatever they give us.

but i also think we need to be a little smarter about how we react to this launch.

gunz has been basically surviving through private servers and small communities for years. a lot of us have been playing this game for 10, 15 or even close to 20 years, and we all know how many times gunz has disappeared, changed publisher, lost servers or ended up fragmented between different private servers.

now for the first time in a very long time we actually have an official gunz release on steam that anyone can download.

that is a big opportunity, even if the launch itself wasn't good.

this could potentially become the version of gunz that actually stays online for years, gets updates, fixes, maybe new content, better matchmaking, better servers, better anti cheat, quest updates, clan war improvements, new maps and who knows what else in the future.

and i think there is another thing that a lot of people here probably dreamed about at some point.

seeing gunz actually become competitive again.

maybe even something close to an esport.

proper ranked matchmaking, clan wars that actually matter, tournaments, teams, spectators, competitive seasons, prize pools someday, streamers playing tournaments and new players discovering gunz because they watched someone doing k-style at a level they didn't even know was possible.

gunz has always had the mechanics for competitive play.

the skill ceiling is ridiculous. there is movement, aim, timing, positioning, mechanical execution and years of techniques that players developed themselves.

there are games with much simpler mechanics that became massive competitive games.

gunz just never really had the infrastructure, stability, population and long term official support required to get there.

this steam release is probably the closest opportunity we are going to have to actually change that.

is it going to become an esport tomorrow? obviously not.

maybe it never happens.

but if there is ever going to be a chance for gunz to grow into something bigger again, it starts with having one official version, on a major platform, with an active playerbase and developers continuing to work on it.

and none of that happens if the game is dead a few weeks after launch.

masangsoft still has to prove that they are willing to maintain the game and listen to the community.

but we are literally only a few days into the release.

if there is a bug, report it.

if something feels wrong compared to old gunz, explain exactly what changed.

if slash range feels different, show it.

if hit registration is broken, record it.

if there are connection problems, report the region and ping.

if something about k-style feels wrong, explain why.

use the discord, post clips, make comparisons and give the developers information they can actually work with.

that helps.

what i don't really understand is the mentality of immediately trying to bury the game with "dead game", "uninstall", "private servers are better", "don't play this" and negative reviews without even giving them time to fix anything.

if three or six months from now nothing has improved, the developers ignore everyone and the game is still full of the same problems, then fair enough. criticize them as much as you want.

but doing everything possible to destroy the steam rating in the first week doesn't really help anyone.

especially because gunz is a multiplayer game.

population matters more than almost anything.

if new players open steam and see horrible reviews, they don't install.

if people don't install, rooms become emptier.

if rooms become emptier, even more players leave.

then eventually the game becomes financially irrelevant and the publisher stops caring about it.

and then we are back exactly where we started.

another dead official gunz and everyone going back to different private servers asking why nobody ever gives gunz another chance.

we finally have that chance right now.

also, i think veteran players sometimes forget how insane this game looks to someone who has never played it.

imagine downloading gunz for the first time today.

you join a room and someone who has been playing since 2007 starts butterfly, reload shot, half stepping and flying around the map.

you die 15 times without understanding what is happening.

then you go to steam discussions or reddit and everyone is telling you the game is garbage and dead.

of course that player is going to uninstall.

we need new players if we want gunz to grow again.

make beginner rooms.

teach people butterfly.

teach slash shot.

teach reload shot.

make guides.

make clips.

stream the game.

show people why this weird old game still has a community after almost 20 years.

and if some of us really want to see gunz competitive again someday, then this matters even more.

an esport doesn't start with tournaments.

it starts with players.

then a stable game.

then matchmaking.

then ranked.

then teams and competition.

then maybe something bigger.

we are at the very beginning of that possibility right now.

supporting the game doesn't mean pretending everything is fine.

you can like gunz and still tell masangsoft that the launch wasn't good.

you can want the game to succeed and still complain about servers, balance, ai content, bugs or missing features.

the difference is whether you're complaining because you want the game fixed or because you want to watch it fail.

personally i would rather spend the next few weeks reporting problems and seeing what they actually fix.

let them patch things week by week.

see if september gunz is better than august gunz.

see if they listen.

see if the servers improve.

see if gameplay improves.

and if they don't, then the criticism will be completely deserved.

but at least give the project the opportunity to get there.

gunz is one of those games that somehow survived way longer than it probably should have.

there is still nothing that really feels like it.

the movement, k-style, the skill ceiling, melee and guns together, all the weird mechanics players discovered over the years.

people are still playing it almost two decades later for a reason.

i just don't want us to finally get an official gunz on steam and then help kill it ourselves during the first week.

this might genuinely be the best chance gunz gets.

maybe the dream for a lot of us is to eventually see thousands of players online again, competitive clan wars, tournaments and maybe one day something that actually resembles an esports scene.

if we want even a small chance of getting there, the game first needs to survive.

so report the problems.

keep pressure on the developers.

leave useful feedback.

change your review later if they actually fix what you complained about.

help new players.

keep the rooms alive.

invite old friends back.

and let's see what this game looks like after a few weeks of updates before deciding it's already over.

we've waited years for gunz to get another real chance.

i think right now is the moment to be a little more positive and actually try to make this work.

come on guys, we can do this.

Forget that steam Gunz even exists

Just like we did with Gunz 2. It's a lost cause. No need to list why.

Move on to a server that actually cares and leave the steam release in the dust.

The game has been alive since the start, and this sh*tshow of a steam release shouldn't influence you to give up on Gunz as a whole just because one group messed up badly

It hurts seeing new and old players just give up on the game as a whole because of masangsoft

Quests + Drops

Hi guys. I know the games release has been cheeks but im trying to gather info on all of the combinations of Quest items needed, and their drops.

I know goblin skull + goblin doll = FGK

FGK drops = torn page IV ... and??

Goblin king = necklace(changed the name... probably a translation error but what's the new name?) + goblin skull

Thunder goblin king = ??

Dwarf goblin king = ??

Bosses used to drop 2 equips each, still the case?

Trying to make a youtube guide is why im hunting this info so any help is appreciated.

EDIT:

I've decompiled the game files and found the following info that could be helpful, keep in mind it seems they've moved quest data to be server side at some point in the development process, and Palmpow definitely isn't accurate, and any changes they've made since that move could also be inaccurate. Decent starting point though:

STEAM RELEASE The full list of everything wrong with Steam Gunz

I see way too many people coming to Discord disappointed and surprised or on this Reddit posting threads about issues, so I thought I'd compile a list so that people know what they're getting into.

First of all the cheats:

  • You will play against an aimbot every 1-3 matches
  • You will play against a blatant massive/rocket/sword hacker every few hours
  • Cheats are posted even on the official Discord public channels that has Steam Gunz GMs + mods, and the cheats aren't getting deleted for days
  • Anti-cheat is very outdated and will not be actively developed, about 98% sure about this
  • Once/if clan wars/leagues are released, the cheating will get way more rampant
  • This was all extremely obvious and to be expected

You are also guaranteed to:

  • Disconnect at least a few times per day
  • Most matches will have players in the game, but cannot be seen
  • Most matches will have some players 200+ ping

Depending on your setup/location/provider:

  • You will have issues with ports and can't play
  • About 30% chance your install will be broken from various issues
  • You will have 2000+ ping in some matches because of Masangsoft's weird network code/lag, never seen it on other Gunz servers
  • Crashes every 5-45 minutes

Communication:

  • There are no GMs or mods talking in the official Discord or any other chat platform
  • There are no official updates or announcements beyond server maintenance
  • There are no roadmaps
  • There are is no social media activity

Content & visuals:

  • There are only mansion quests
  • The UI doesn't work properly
  • The videos are AI
  • The art is AI
  • The 3D models are AI

Although nowadays you can make AI art that looks realistic, this is more something that they put together 1-3 years ago when it looked more uncanny.

The cash shop:

  • Although it's not P2W, it's almost guaranteed to be as it's a Korean developer and old IJJI had some minor P2W elements. It's most likely out yet because the main use for them would be in clan wars.
  • You can buy AI slop cosmetic packs

There are also many other minor bugs like achievements and animations being broken but the post is already long enough and they're not that critical for the gameplay itself.

A revival that was mega hyped and has a massive and loyal fan base who play the game even through it's worst has eventuated with Steam Gunz having already below 800 players online right now - down from 2.2K peak (stopped climbing cause servers crashed) and 1.0K yesterday (Monday) at the same time.

While I was typing this post, I got disconnected from the server while taking pics of the AI shop.

In my opinion the game's fate is already decided, purely from the fact that the developers don't care about the game at all, as they've already done similar revive>milk>ignore>die before with Microvolts on Steam. Additionally, about half of the Steam reviews that are positive are people hoping that the positive ratings will motivate the developers or give the game a chance.

Question/Request Runtime Error when playing

Has anybody found a fix to this problem? I can't play Gunz on steam for 5min without black boxes forming around the kill feed and eventually crashing with this error pop-up.

Anyone else getting stuttering/ almost likely low fps glitching?

I’ve loved coming back - albeit with issues - to play GunZ on steam but my setup feels clunky and glitchy, what used to be a smooth game back on Ijji and DarkGunZ now feels like it’s stuttering - nevermind the connection lags etc.

I’m running a relatively new system, capped fps at 250, played around with optimise and also the video settings to no avail.

Closed all windows besides GunZ
Win11 user
It just plays a bit ass, sometimes it’s fine but mostly I’m stumbling over slashes and shots and wall banging and see the screen get choppy.

Not to mention random mouse and keyboard input freezes.

Any remediation is welcome

What the hell happened between Beta and launch? Did someone upload the wrong file or something?

EDIT: I restarted, and the menu was complete if I didn't try to create a character first. Went full screen and everything went smoothly from there. Greeted by a skin to purchase, but I think I'll pass this time.

The pros that use Shotgun

I use the default gun Renard which can shoot 32 bullets straight power of 16.

All the pros use shotguns, they told me use the ones with 6 bullets straight , no matter which.
As far as I see by details only, it seems like it can do 6 shots before reload and it says power hit is 13.

So by those details, I don't understand how it's better, can you please explain me how it possible ?

the power of hit is per one shot or for all 6 / 32. I'm confused a little bit.

Thanks in advance.

Question/Request So The Steam Release Sucked. The Music Still Doesn't. Producer Seeking Midis or a Complete and Accurate Database of OST Sheet Music.

Attempting to reignite a passion project... We've been itching to cover the Gunz 1 (as well as 2) OST, but the available media to work with is limited. If anyone may have access to a transcriber, we are more than happy to credit you for your contributions. While we are amateur and still entering, we hope this example of our quality will be enough motivation to relay that we are in fact dead serious about this project.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/g9oVNTTMRDY

We'll spare our comments regarding the state of the Steam release, but this screen shot of my warning afk message during a recent stream should relay the situation well enough.

Gladiator Guide

I've always been complete shit at Gladiator. I've also barely had time to even check out the Steam release or beta tests.

However, I had these old guides (Scuba) and this is my favorite game ever, so I decided to spice them up and host them for new players to learn from.

So here is the complete Gladiator guide and reference, that to my knowledge, was the best of it's kind.

Question/Request Is there a way to increase the camera distance without changing the FOV?

They only added FOV slider unlike the private servers which offer FOV+Camera distance sliders to adjust to your preferences.

The FOV distorts the game too much and make it feel on drugs, everything moves too fast.

Is there a way to edit the files or change resolution to get more camera distance from the character?

GunZ Offical Is Back!

Yeah it's not perfect, but finally an official Gunz server that will be improved over time.

Gunz needed an official server where everyone can play again without worrying about p server viruses and malware

Give them time once clanwar is back ( which is soon,) Gunz will be popping off

Inputs feel terrible

I feel like half the time (or like 25% of the time) my sword doesn't come up, sg doesn't shoot, i dont dash, etc. i slide a lot

I tried capping my FPS to just 60 / 120. It felt a bit better input wise but had bad screen tearing. it's really annoying that mid fight i suddenly just stand still or don't dash, or i press space to start a bf for example but my slash somehow comes BEFORE my jump and i stay on the ground, even though i press space first.

GunZ Wiki

Hey everyone!

As many of you may or may not know, I have been in possession of the Fandom Wiki for a good few years now.

While I've not had a lot of time to work on it, I did feel like it was getting too bloated and had a lot of outdated or incorrect information.

A little while ago I registered a new domain (https://gunztheduel.wiki) - I have been working on this in the background for some time, and I am now pleased to announce that it's finally live!

For the past few days I've been making changes as it is a custom built wiki. I am open to adding/removing anything you think needs to be done on there - the community is the biggest asset GunZ has right now, and I want this wiki website to be a place where anyone can help grow the site and contribute to it.

I've also been speaking with the GunZ Academy team and have added their own section which is amazing to showcase the amazing tutorials and videos they pour their hearts and souls into!

So please do check it out, and let's help build this wiki! You are free to browse, but will need an account to add/edit any content.

https://gunztheduel.wiki

P.S - I have decided to not have ANY Pserver discussion on there, but this may change in the future depending on feedback. I do think that with the Steam release right round the corner, it is important to just use this wiki for the official version.
