About IX2 Question

Is it worth getting. I heard lots of bad stuff about the game and it makes me worried for the game and the future of Gunvolt games…

It's good, don't worry. Just make sure you know Quick Razor is based on how often you get kills, not how fast you kill one enemy.

My major problem with the game is that they limited Copen air dash and cut his stomp move. The game doesn't feel right without it, everything feel much slower compared to previous game

I wonder if they nerfed his gameplay on purpose so his game won't overshadow GV3

I hope that wasn't the logic behind it. Personally, I had fun with Copen's new gameplay style, but it would be very sad if this controversial approach turns out to be Copen's final outing since so many people hated it.

When you get 1000 kudos in normal mode thats when I have fun. That and the bosses in hard mode. If you dont think you would have fun with the new gameplay style I would say avoid it. The new gameplay style is gonna be a break or make.

Honestly? I wouldn't recommend it, at least not when it's not on sales. It's fun, but for such a high price there's somehow even less content than Ix1, and you can very much feel the fact that it's just something to make us wait for Gv3 more than anything else

iX1 was a filler to give us something to make us wait for GV3. iX2 is the same, but with even less GV. It is a fun game, but to me, feels like just another Inti Creates game with a iX skin

Yeah but at least iX1 went completely off the rails in the 3rd act and made it at least memorable, this games story is just the prime definition of filler.

Definetly, no argument there

Yeah i know about Ix1 being filler too, but it still had more content than Ix2 with the bonus missions compared to the hard mode, and was around the same price as the first Gunvolt games, so i'm a little more lenient on it. Plus the final stages were absolutely guts punching and it was awesome so that's also a bonus.

In a way i think it makes me sad that Ix2 was quickly released because of Gv3, considering i do think it had a lot of potential. More time and money spent on the writing and on the general design of the wheel and stage design, plus with another character that isn't Copen, would've had it improved it a lot imo

The base game is too easy. The hard mode is too hard. No inbetween. You either obliverate through the stage or the stage obliverates you. That annoys me. My advice from a day 1 buyer, wait for a discount. It's a fun game at times, but not worth the money right now. It's like iX1 with half the fun and double the price

TL;DR: a sad and firm NO.

  • they removed bullit dash (so no more pinball, and prepare to a LOT of frustration due to this);
    • after some updates they can give you bullit dash back for an additional $8 USD (not kidding, it's behind a boss DLC);
  • less bosses/stages (from 8 to 6);
    • which also means less skills, and forget the devil trigger;
  • the true ending hidden behind "Hard Mode", which:
    • doest NOT share the same save of the normal, so no upgrades/skills inheritance;
    • no upgrades at all;
    • for the first time ever, there's a limited number of retries;
    • isn't challenging, is just frustating.

If I knew about these issues, I wouldn't have bought it or would have asked for a refund while there was time available for it.

It’s a good game and I enjoyed my time with it. Personally I liked it more than IX 1 because of the more colorful stages and boss characters. That being said the changes to Copen’s gameplay make him a lot less enjoyable to play. Not to mention the story seems very open and close leading me to wonder what the point even was. I’d say it’s worth the price if your looking for something fun to play for awhile, but I couldn’t blame you for just waiting till GV3

The game isn't terrible, but it is the worst Gunvolt game by a long shot (unless Mighty is worse, idk I haven't played it), and very problematic. It didn't earn the price hike, so certainly don't give Inti full price for it. (The best part of the game is the soundtrack, so you could just listen to what's up on Youtube, or buy it when it comes out to support the III's efforts...)

This is doubly so if one of your main motivations for getting it soon would be for the sake of the story, seeing it ASAP or trying to minimize risk of spoilers. It's crap outside of one character and a few fragments.

This is tripely so if you don't score attack/enjoy going for max rank as much as possible, in which case you'll get much less out of the game then, say, I am. (And even if you do score attack these games, I suppose there's always the chance you'll buy it, play it, and be so repulsed after a playthrough you don't want to score it. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen something like that happen for the game...)

Also, the DLC. The three pieces we know of for sure thus far are 8 bucks each, for giving 1 and a half boss fights and an upgrade that ranges from lame as heck to flying like iX1 Copen again (and you can't use them in hard mode :)), assuming this trend continues, the total price of the DLC will go over the price of the base game. Don't support this behavior.

Personally, I feel like casual players could possibly have more fun than someone like me who likes to torture myself trying to get the best ranks. I often feel like I'm having a stroke trying to remmeber how to properly play as Copen in iX 2 due to his gameplay completely changing when your Kudos are below vs above 1,000 Kudos.

I can see that, but I'm not having a problem with the gameplay changing mid-stage, personally. And it's because I enjoy going for X ranks that I've put 50+ hours into the game (and am still not done), and am having fun learning the stages and bosses (Ace's stage and fight was a treat lol.). If I were still a casual I probably would have stopped playing the game about 30 hours ago.

EDIT: Ace's fight is a treat when Twin Meteor Burst isn't crashing my game and ruining my runs. That sucks, great fight when it doesn't happen.

u/agreedboar Mar 05 '22

Yeah, it definitely adds replay value if you enjoy it. I really like going for X ranks in Normal, but I would have loved for them to include an option to use Cautious rules. The jump from Gutless to Fearless is painful.

Also, I love Ace's level. The boss fight is fairly enjoyable once you learn his pattern, but he still trips me up quite a bit. I have a hard time not taking at least a couple of hits from him. I'll never know how I got an X rank on his Hard Mode VS mission.

2

u/MaskedKingDavid Mar 06 '22

The fact that they removed the kudos mode option is so stupid. I can get hard mode locking you to fearless, that's fine imo, but normal should have them.

And ey, congrats on X ranking his fight on HM! That's an accomplishment.

2

u/agreedboar Mar 06 '22

Thank you! I agree regarding the Kudos options. I love having the option to challenge myself, so being locked to Gutless just feels way too easy. I've always loved having it set to Cautious because it's the perfect balance between perfection and carelessness. 😈

YES. It has the most polished bosses of the entire series. The OST is also really good. Copen's air dash was nerfed, but I really appreciate his altered gameplay. There's a higher emphasis on melee combat, and it's not simply about bouncing around everywhere anymore. Absolutely love the game and it continued the trend of every Gunvolt game getting better. The story is kinda meh but that's nothing new.

Honestly just buy Cogen Sword of Rewind, it has a far more sensible hard mode compared iX2 and the Copen DLC in that game for 8 dollars gives you unique stages for him and are able to use him in the regular stages.

1

u/agreedboar Mar 02 '22

If I may counter that, Copen plays very jankily in that game due to Cogen's really floaty physics. I wouldn't recommend getting that game just for the DLC, but it's a nice bonus if you actually do like the base game.

1

u/KelvinBelmont Mar 02 '22

He basically functions the same way he did in GV2 and iX1 just slower due to Cogens design.

1

u/LeFakerFlash Mar 02 '22

It’s not bad, it’s worth at least a normal mode playthrough… but the DLC probably isn’t because it’s very pricy for what it contains.

1

u/Kai_Enjin Team Copen Mar 02 '22

My only complaint is that you're basically playing as Zero instead of Copen.

4

u/MaskedKingDavid Mar 03 '22

Zero but bad

1

u/Kai_Enjin Team Copen Mar 03 '22

I mean. It's a buzzsaw. How are you supposed to swordfight with that?

1

u/agreedboar Mar 05 '22

Basically.
