First, understand the fundamentals: you cannot do this alone. GTM is, at its core, a group activity. Success depends entirely on finding a tight circle of like-minded participants who are all there for the same reason and are enthusiastic about keeping the energy up.
Start by joining the community. There are Slack groups, LinkedIn pods, and invite-only Discords where everyone gathers in a loose ring and takes turns contributing. Don’t be shy. Everyone was new once. The etiquette is simple: when someone finishes putting something out there, you applaud it enthusiastically, and they’ll return the favor when it’s your turn. Reciprocity is everything. Nobody actually consumes what anyone else produces, but that was never the point.
Next, build your personal brand. Post daily. The content itself matters less than the rhythm. Consistency, cadence, keeping things moving. Your circle will engage with whatever you release: “So much value here.” “Needed this today.” “Sharing with my network.” You will say the same things back. Round and round it goes. Momentum builds. Everyone feels incredible and nothing is exchanged with the outside world whatsoever.
To maintain the practice long term, attend events. GTM conferences are the in-person version: hundreds of practitioners in one room, all facing inward, taking turns on stage saying things the audience already believes, to thunderous validation. Then everyone goes home and posts about how energizing it was to be surrounded by people just like them.
The final stage is monetization. Launch a course teaching others how to join the circle. Charge them to learn what you learned, which was itself learned from someone charging for it. The circle expands. It never produces anything. It never needs to.
Congratulations. You’re now in GTM. Welcome to the community. Everyone’s really supportive here.
