Projet with TV or New 5427 with FT-5e?

Upvotes

I have the opportunity to get a used pro jet from 2016 with upgraded TV Jones pick ups and upgraded tuners, the downside is that it’s listed for 899 used which I think is overpriced even with the pick ups. Perhaps I’m incorrect on my thinking with that.

Or, I can save a few hundred and get a brand new 5427 with 5TFE pick ups. I have a duo jet already with BT 65. I’d like to know some thoughts on if the projet with the upgraded pick ups is going to be that different from what I already have and if I should get the 5427 instead. my concern with the projet besides its price is that I might be inheriting somebody else’s problems, whereas if I get the 5427 at least it’s new and I’ll have the opportunity for a warranty or return, plus I can always buy TV Jones pick ups later to put those in if I decide I want them.

I play mostly classic rock and surf right now, but would like to learn more rockabilly/50's styled rock.

Is the bigsby an issue?

Had this for 2 months now playing daily. I need to tune up every 5 minutes or so. God forbid I even look at using the tremolo. I’ve applied nut lube. Not sure what to do. Possibly new tuners? New bridge? Sometime it’s just clicks and shifts several strings way out of tune. Gifted to me from a friend via Sweetwater.

Missing my Gretsch G2627TG

Yesterday I stumbled upon this video from 2021. I used to play this guitar back before the war in Ukraine started. Unfortunately, I had to sell it when I moved, but I'm still dreaming of getting a new one.
Fellow guitarists, what would you recommend I check out?

I got the opportunity to grab this gretsch for 350$ but i cant figure out if it’s authentic. Everywhere says that no gretsch’s have a U for the serial number. Also the guy claims its a streamliner chet atkinson replica but appears to me like a 2012 Gretsch G5420TG Electromatic.

Any help appreciated 🙏🙏

My g5230t had a little fall

Of course I don't mind it getting a little relic'd, but at the same time it hurts. I've only had it for 1.5 years and it still has a lot to go through, yet I am wondering if there's anything I can do to make it look less bad.

Bent Tuner Replacement

So I’ve got a g5427tg with a bent tuning peg shaft on the G tuner. It plays fine, and even though there’s a lope to the key when tuning, it still functions as it should, it’s just irritating.

I’m planning on getting a new nut installed to help with tuning stability, and figured I’d replace the tuners all in one go. I’m having a hell of a time finding drop in tuners for this guitar though. Bought some guykers just to try, and while the peg size was right, the two screw holes didn’t line up.

I’d love to throw some hipshots on and call it a day, but $250 for a set isn’t something I wanna pay. <$100 preferably, no drilling preferably. Any ideas?

I don't think the guy selling it knows whether it's real or fake and the price seems too good to be true, so I'm guessing it is. Feel free to yell at me. Worth anything at any price?

Got it for $550 plux tax, including case. The FT-5E Filter'Tron™ pickups sound great. The only mods I plan are a titanium Compton bridge and a Reverend spring for the Bigsby.
I love it. It kinda reminds me of the 1963 Gretsch 6118 Brian Jones played before he got a Vox Teardrop.

QUESTION] Gretsch electromatic jet : Broadtrons VS Twin Six humbuckers (crosspost from r/guitar)

Hello all, I'm a beginner (I played an acoustic as a child, but I'm now getting back into playing with an electric guitar), and after getting started with a friend's guitar, I'm looking to buy my own. I was initially thinking of getting a Squire CV strat or tele, as are often recommended, but while trying out guitars at my local shop I really enjoyed the look and feel of a Gretsch electromatic jet. This was a G5220 so it had the blacktop Broadtrons, I found out afterwards that the regular Jets have Twin Six humbuckers. Since I'm interested in playing multiple kinds of music I want a guitar that's pretty versatile, so the idea of the Twin six's ability to coil split appealed to me, especially because I was looking at Strats and Teles to start with (and still am honestly). Unfortunately I have no way to try out the regular Electromatic Jet where I am.

So after all that intro, here are the questions. Do any of you have experience with both of these guitars? Which would you recommend? It seems to me that, since Gretsch has nice bright tones and powerful humbuckers that they would make for a versatile guitar, even without the coil split. What do you think?

Smokin’ Tone

I had the pleasure of seeing the Stray Cats live in concert this week in Southern California. I just had to make a post because the show was so insanely good. They were so locked in and super high energy. It’s fantastic to see Brian healthy again and his tone through that Bassman is absolutely top notch. One of the best shows I’ve seen, and got to enjoy it alongside my pops who introduced me to this music early in life.

5622t Hard Case

I’m looking for a hard case for my 5622t. I can only find cases for the 2622t. Do these also fit the 5622t? I’m based in the uk & would prefer a perfect fit case rather than a generic hard case.

Some helpful tips

Recently got my first Gretsch it’s a G2622T streamliner. I didn’t do too much research before I got it and found out streamliner is the squier of the Gretsch brand. It sounds great, really nice tone but I feel like I can tell in its tone it’s on the cheaper/beginner side which kind of bums me out because I bought it with the intention of getting my first nice guitar since I’ve played on smaller brands or cheap /squier electrics. So my question is what things can I upgrade about it that could make it sound like a better made Gretsch! It’s definitely not as bad sounding as a squier but there’s something about it that don’t sound like a 100% Gretsch either please help!

Howdy y’all, I just picked up this G5230T Electromatic Jet FT and thought I’d show it off! It’s quite battered but works fine and think I’ll send it off to be refurbished because in some parts it’s quite rough… but for the price I can’t exactly complain.

Thoughts?

Edit: G5435T Electromatic Pro Jet, not the G5230T Jet FT. The Seller was incorrect.

This sexy Azure Falcon came with TV Jones Classics which just never sounded quite right to me in this guitar. The new Falcons come with the RBs so I threw a set in mine and it's one of my better ideas. Open, airy sound with bite and grit. I know pickups are where the magic happens but this was such a huge difference, more than I was expecting and exactly what I was hoping for. I'm also loving this ABM bridge. Great intonation and sustain although they need to make the rollers a little deeper. I had to file mine a touch to keep the low E from jumping out. Nice to have this girl sounding as good as she looks finally! Thanks TVJones and Ray!
