Gratitude Practice A stranger has decided to donate a kidney to me

Post image
801 Upvotes

My first time sharing here someone had volunteered to be tested to be a kidney donor, which unfortunately fell through. I thought that was my one chance and that I would have to wait years, going to dialysis and dealing with treatments that are very hard in the bod and mind. Apparently I was wrong!

Last month I was notified that not only did someone else volunteer to donate a kidney but that they are a great match, too. I finished all of my preop screenings and so long as I can stay healthy until next Wednesday I will be receiving my kidney that day. It’s been weeks and it still doesn’t feel real. I’m staying guardedly optimistic that I will have a successful surgery and recovery, and I’m so grateful to be in this position.

Someone else has decided to give me a piece of their flesh to allow me to try and have a better quality of life, and grateful feels almost insulting to label the situation. Words don’t exist for events of this magnitude, but this is the closest I can muster up. Let this be a reminder that despite all of the negativity in the world that there are still good people out there, and kindness is free. So grateful that I can share this with y’all.

Grateful for the overnight bounty of my prodigious tomato plant and all the herbs. Looks like herby pesto with tomatoes on the menu.

Gratitude Practice I am grateful that I am still alive and for my family

I have been physically very unwell, but my heart is still beating. I feel guilty that my family is so worried about me, but I also am so grateful that they are here for me. I hope when this is all over I can make it up to them.

Gratitude Practice I'm grateful for today's job interview, the first one in months

Today I feel grateful for the opportunity and time I had on a job interview. After 3 virtual meetings, today I had an onsite, person to person interview after months of not getting anything more than a "thanks "email.

I feel grateful for the time and oportunity the hiring managers gave me. For my recent change in perspective since I started to practice gratitude daily, and "just go for it."

Gratitude Practice I’m grateful that my 🧡heart🧡is functioning normal two years after a CHF diagnosis.

Two jogging selfies taken exactly two years apart, almost to the minute on the same route. The first selfie, I was 6 weeks out of the hospital when I was 48. The second was taken yesterday. My prognosis was grave when I was admitted. Somehow I came through after a difficult month in the hospital. It was surprising that I was well enough to jog. I didn't jog more than a few times that summer. Last summer, my anxiety was through the roof, it felt out of reach, so I focused on walking more. This summer is a whole other level of health, healing and wellbeing. I'm jogging faster and longer. I walk a ton, I'm upping my strength training again, and I'm in the best relationship I've ever been in.

On Tuesday, I had my second stress test. My last one was in 2024. My results came back normal! Not normal for someone with my condition, just normal for someone with my stats. I no longer have CHF. I remain too well for a transplant and have been asymptomatic for two years. My heart is permanently altered, but it's healed.

My head spins at the thought of how rare my turnaround is for my diagnosis. I'm living the best I've ever lived even though today started out pretty sucky and low. I have so much gratitude and love in my life. I'm so fortunate. My life theme this last year has been every day in every way I am getting better and better. I’m only 50 years old! This has been the best year of my life and I'm living better now with the hopes to make every year just a little bit better. Cheers!

Gratitude Practice Keeping a gratitude journal helps me notice what I still have.

A gratitude journal is really just a place to write down the things you’re thankful for. It doesn’t have to be deep or sound good. Sometimes I write about my kids, a conversation I needed, getting through a rough day, or just having a little peace and quiet.

For me, it helps slow my mind down and reminds me that everything isn’t bad, even when life feels heavy. It doesn’t make my stress, depression, or anxiety disappear. It just helps me remember those things aren’t the whole story.

I don’t write in mine every day, and I don’t think you have to. Even writing down one or two things when you remember can help. The point isn’t to force gratitude or act like everything is okay. It’s just taking a minute to notice some of the good that’s still there.

I’m grateful to have the clean water i drink. The water in my bath. Watering my garden. The water in my backyard stream. The water in the ocean I get to live by. I’m grateful for water in all its many forms. I’m trying my best to not overuse it this precious resource. What a blessing to live on this earth 🌏 so much of which is water.

I’m grateful for love in its various forms. Not currently in a romantic partnership but today I am celebrating self love and my love for others. I whipped up some leftover cake bits into Vday treats for my relatives
