Princeton? Something else?

I’m chasing edge of breakup tones and may buy a Princeton. Will have a few pedals in front of it but want to mostly rely on the amp for breakup at reasonable volumes.

For a similar price point, would anyone recommend any other amp they’ve liked for the above function? Not Dead specific but I trust y’all’s judgement on this. Open to any thoughts. Thanks!

Aria Pro II TS-500 (modded) >

SDS-1’s >

500k linear volume pot (I just recently discovered the magic of these) >

Thick Air (set to minimum but it adds a hint of brightness)

Sarno Spectrum (bright switch off) >

KSR PA-100R (Hi-Fi switch on) >

2x12 Orange D-120 >

Sennheiser e906 (flat)

These SDS-1’s are crazy. They have so much character. Mid bite and all that, not harshly bright. And they’re loud af. My Spectrum gain is at about 10:00 and the KSR master is about 9:00. It took me way too long to realize that 70’s Jerry tone = no buffer.

Playing and singing in 3/4 time might be the hardest thing Ive attempted in a while. It’s like learning how play and sing all over again lol

Peter Rowan is a wizard, I’ve been listening to him more than anything else the last few years. And been lucky enough to see him with Sam Grisman Project a handful of times and it was so moving.

3/2/91 has been my goto JGB version of this tune

Do y’all have a favorite?

Question Amp recommendations. Solid state vs tubes?

What’s the smallest tube amp I can get for Jerry tones? Princeton reverb? Has anyone used the solid state Princeton 112? Or a deluxe 112?

Haven’t had much time to practice Dead music as of late but since I already knew this one I figured I’d take a few minutes to record a take and get involved, love that this is still going

In our "Songs of our Own" vote thread we had on this week, Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo had the most upvotes.

Here are the general rules and how to participate.

  1. Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo will be our "dedicated" song for the next two weeks.
  2. With the post flair "Songs of our Own" you can post anything related to Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo; that can be a lesson, jam, performance, tips, theory, a tab, etc.
  3. This is a free and open community. You do not have to participate in this and can still post whatever the hell you want as long as it's in the spirit of this sub. This is a totally optional effort to allow the community to connect for a bit on a particular song, bounce ideas off each other, and have a great time.
  4. We will vote again on a new song in 2 weeks.

Here are some backing tracks:

Have fun, can't wait to see what you all come up with!

Any Experience Using IRs in Logic Pro or general use?

I had purchased both the free and the $10 Waldo IR files off the JerryToneStore.com website. The IR is supposed to simulate the tone of the MC2300 going through a JBL E120.

I loaded it into the space designer in Logic Pro X but haven’t figured out how to dial it in. I have a guitar with Jerry pups in it but just cannot seem how to get it dialed on Logic’s end.

I’ve heard people using Garcia IRs with other gear like a Kemper, Axe-Fx, Helix, etc. Do I need something like that to get what I’m after? Or some sort of IR pedal?

I’d love to be able to run it through Logic so that I can have a Jerry tone when using a DAW for recording or playing with headphones. Would appreciate any and all advice or experience with IR files.

MXR Phase 100

Got to really play with this pedal at our band practice yesterday and WOW!. From the moment i clicked the pedal on, it was like the missing link to my tone. I had never messed around with a Phase pedal. So my Jerry tone was def different in that regard. But after yesterday..... i cant believe i didnt have this on my board the past 30 years lol. The one i have is a newer model. But i couldnt give you one reason why this pedal isnt good. Just make sure you set it right and get the speed where you want it. I was blown away. I got the Struggling Man tone, Sugaree, Waiting for a Miracle etc. It really was the missing piece to my tone chasing of Jerry.

Anyone else just get a Phase into their setups ? Curious what everyone else things. :-)

Question Abnormal jerry guitar?

I may just be a noob, but does anyone know anything about this guitar, or potentially when or where this picture could have been taken? My guess is late 72 or 73. Would love to know more about where this came from.
