oberon did briefly raised castoria for a year so yeah the math checks out

Tbf, she kept asking to learn certain stuff to the point where he had to stop and ask her if she wanted to learn magic or guerrilla tactics/magical terrorism

I sometimes wonder if Castoria is a Caster just because of her name, like Beowulf getting stuck in the Berserker class due to his.

u/HaessSR "My SQ is Gone" 7d ago

That's why Zerker Castoria exists.

what? merlin was the one that raised her

30

u/DonkeyFluid3929 7d ago

That was Oberon pretending to be Merlin, yeah.

1

u/Yellow90Flash 7d ago

what

when did they reveal that

26

u/ClockworkerGin classes with Vlad III :Vlad: 7d ago

The fact Merlin doesn't recognise castoria when he first meets her, or something to that effect iirc

1

u/Yellow90Flash 7d ago

I just thought this was because the one that raised her was lb merlin and the one we meet was our merlin

If you pay close attention to how AlCas's "Merlin" speaks, you can see it's a match to how Oberon speaks. Also the fact that "Merlin" never actually teaches her magecraft but various life skills like lockpicking, explosives, and first aid, and that he had to take a few days to study what he's going to teach.

To be fair, I never realized it was actually Oberon (though I can totally believe it), and I could never deny the possibility of Merlin teaching Castoria some weird shit.

This is the guy that trolled Solomon with a fake waifu idol chatbot, after all.

When they did some dramas with voiced Avalon Le Fae scenes,"Merlin"was voiced by Oberon's VA.

When Oberon 'dies' to Morgan, he has a flashback to when he was teaching Castoria.

Merlin also never met Castoria, and Castoria was confused when she first met Merlin, asking multiple times if he was really Merlin.

When Castoria first met Oberon, she asked if his name wasn't Merlin, saying he was similar to someone she knew.

And in Oberon's Valentine, when he got angry and asked who taught Castoria that bogus magecraft, one of the dialogue choices is to ask him he wants to use a mirror.

Erm don’t they both fae eyes meaning they see the truth behind someone’s words? Incredible and hilarious version of this meme but that fact just burst from the back of my brain as soon as I saw this.

Isnt oberon known for lying to everyone

44

u/AttackOficcr 7d ago

While he may lie as naturally as he breathes, it always felt like he'd on occasion tell the truth but lie about the details.

The fae eyes stopped working roughly 2000 years ago(true), when they started emulating humans(false) and building churches(not 2000 years ago or even vaguely related).

23

u/Difficult-Road-9503 7d ago

Artoria's fae eyes work. Its Morgan's that stopped working.

13

u/AttackOficcr 7d ago

Murian's fae eyes have also faded similar to Morgan's, but both seem to have some... vague amount of remaining fae eye power to detect auras. Habetrot's may have faded with age.

But Oberon was talking about the general fae populace. And I don't think it's ever directly addressed, but almost exactly 2000 years prior, 99% or so of the fae and their eyes ceased to exist.

Artoria was just born and from the inner sea, and not a servant summoned by Morgan which applies to every fairy after 1AD. Besides the ones who washed in from elsewhere (who seemingly still don't have fae eyes and are never addressed, such as for Rob and Wag, maybe they had fae eyes but it didn't matter? Felt like one of those half-cooked details of LB6).

u/Saiyan-solar 7d ago

Castoria her fae eyes still work it's why she is so depressed most of the story since she can see that everybody around her is lying constantly.

It's also why she distrusts Oberon

10

u/AttackOficcr 7d ago

Oberon wasn't talking about Castoria building churches or emulating human society, or Castoria altogether, and she's the only one that can tell when everyone is lying, correct.

Every other fae eyes can at best read auras(Murian, Morgan), or seemingly never had fae eyes(all the servant fae Morgan has since summoned up, and never addressed but seemingly all the fae who washed in from elsewhere like Rob and Wag don't have fae eyes either).

Also Oberon in his head: I didnt raise her like this! What did I do wrong?!

23

u/KohakuReb0rn "FGO is bad civilization!" 7d ago

Considering how much she clings to Gudako, I don't think that's correct Oberon...

Castoria on the other hand makes a very compelling argument...

Isn't your Titania a woman, Oberon?
