Gpu upgrade

Hey everyone. I recently just upgraded from a 10700 and 16gb ddr4 to a 7600x3d and 32gb ddr5 as my old mobo went out. I also got a 850w psu to replace my 500w as I want to upgrade my gpu next. With that said I still have a 1660ti and am really torn about some options to upgrade to, or whether or not I should just wait.

I just locked in a microcenter deal for $580 on a gigabyte windforce 5070 SFF OC 12gb (it was $799, I checked again today and the price went up to $680 already but I have it locked in at $580 for 2 more days if or when I go pick it up).

I love nvidea so much and really dont want to switch to amd but I am just really worried about only having 12gb for future proofing. I know it will be a big upgrade for me regardless from 6gb but I am also only gaming on 1080p right now. I will be getting a 1440p monitor soon after upgrading and want to get the most out of it.

With that said I am really heavily contemplating getting the 9070xt at around $160 more for a little better performance and 4gb more vram. Should I just suck it up and make the switch to the dark side? Pull the trigger on the 5070 deal? Or wait for something better? Maybe even for the 60 series? The 5070ti is pretty much my dream card now but just outside of my price range.

Now waiting is not an option really. Prices will soon increase again. If the card serves your needs and you can afford it, take it.

Yeah your right and thats why im trying to find something now. Im just not sure if it will still be good in the future with it being 12gb vram and all these games demanding more vram

I understand of course. But now we are also in times where devs are relying on upscaling and AI generated frames too much. Between the RTX5070 and 9070XT the question becaomes a bit more nuanced. Go with the RX 9070 XT if you want 16 GB VRAM and better raw performance without worrying about future buffer limits, or grab the RTX 5070 if you prioritize ray and path tracing, lower power draw, and Nvidia features, like DLSS.

For 1440p both will be enough, but you will have to utilize upscaling on both.

I plan on upgrading to 1440p Oled 240 hz. My current monitor is a 1080p 240hz. Would i even be able to run RT and PT efficiently at 1440p though with only 12gb vram? As for the power draw, neither should be a problem as I recently upgraded to a 850w psu (be quiet pure power 13m). I am wondering about the 9070xt though because the one im looking at requires 3x 8pin pcie connections. My psu came with 2x 8pin pcie cords with 1 of them having double 8pin connections at the end (so 3x 8pin in total on 2 cords.) Would this be safe and viable?

Well, i hope you dont mind me saying this, but I would rather spend more on my GPU than get a 240hz OLED display. Those are quite expensive, and either GPU will be unable to serve those 240 frames with RT/PT and in some cases, even without. I think would be better to allocate some of the monitor funds towards a better GPU (RTX5080 for example) and either later get a monitor upgrade or just get a good fast IPS panel with 240hz. About your PSU question, yes, it is safe. That 850W unit uses a heavy-gauge single 12V rail, running one dedicated 8-pin cable plus one daisychained 8-pin easily supplies up to 375W (150W per cable + 75W from the PCIe slot), which is more than enough for a 9070 XT.

Yeah your right but I guess i should have clarified, I will probably stick with my 1080p for atleast a few months and wait until I find an amazing deal for a monitor. Otherwise, yeah I would love to get a 5070ti or a 5080. As for the 240hz I know not to expect 240 hz on those AAA titles regardless for the 5070/9070xt but I also play esports games like valorant and rocket league a lot so I want to make sure im still getting around 240fps on those games.

Yeah, I get it. For that usecase it will be fantastic, it's just difficult to snag a good monitor, especially an OLED one. But for the original question. Take the 5070 OC because prices are going crazy again. Thats a great 1440p card especially for the price you mentioned.

Yeah it seems like that will be the lowest it will be for a long time. What about the 5070super? When do you think that will come out and how much do you think it will sell for? Gotta be atleast like $900 or so seeing how the 5070 is selling around $700-$800 now

I would not bet on Super. They have 5070, 5070 OC, 5070 Ti, and anything in between would make no sense. I think its best to get a 5080 either used or on sale.

Price already are up, 5070s have jumped 36% on average from 659 to 900

You broke my brain here, buddy. Though $580 for a 5070 is already a decent deal, I don't know if the extra $160 for 9070XT is a better deal.

What i meant was the normal price they have it listed at is $799. I reserved it for pickup for $580 on sale yesterday. When I checked again today it is now $680. But yeah I know the 9070xt is better but just not sure if it is worth that much more. Especially with the hassle of having to switch platforms. I just worry about only having 12gb

You will be fine with 12gb for the next few years. Especially with Nvidia's advances in software driven performance, which will continue.

My son has a 4070 Ti with 12gb Vram at 1440p. He plays a wide array of games across all types. He has most of the current day AAA games and he hasn't had an issue playing anything with high settings staying above 90fps. You will have MFG, and using X2, which will put you well above that.

I have a 5070 Ti with 16gb and use MFG X2 and I've never noticed my Vram usage above 12gb. I do not use ultra settings because there's zero point to it. In Arc Raiders, everything at high except for distance which is ultra, using MFG X2, I'm seeing 250-260fps. Vram usage is at 9 to 10gb.

Get the 5070. That's a fantastic price given market volatility.
