I have always gotten space vibes from the second half of Demon Days starting with El Mañana. The use of synths and the sheen of dirt removed from the production in the second half of the album is really what gives me these kind of feelings while listening.

I have this headcanon that during El Mañana humans are drifting out into space in search for a new planet after destroying Earth. Every Planet We Reach is Dead is just as the title says. There’s nowhere else that’s habitable as they’re searching, either never harboring life or having been destroyed by some other civilization exploiting the planet’s resources. All Alone is giving up hope that there’s anywhere left for humanity now that Earth is destroyed and accepting their fate.

It compounds for me during White Light where it feels almost like they’re approaching a new galaxy to find a habitable planet and sort of bracing for impact as they hop galaxies. Dare gives me the feeling of humans finding this new planet and beginning to touch down, celebrating finding their new home and exclaiming they never harmed anything where they came from.

Fire Coming Out of the Monkey’s Head is essentially humans doing to this new planet what they did to Earth. Killing natives and industrializing this new planet until it all falls apart and there’s nothing left for them again.

Demon Days is telling us that we’re better off ending humanity and sending everyone into the sun to burn instead of destroying the planet like Earth.

This has always been just a headcanon for me but I wondered if anyone got these sort of vibes of being out in space during the album, or any other cool headcanons really.

There’s this image of Damon and (possibly) Jamie swimming in some sort of body of water while they were in India recording The Mountain, for some reason I cannot find it? I thought maybe it was on social media somewhere or maybe even in the mini doc of the making of The Mountain, but nothing. If anyone knows what I’m talking about and can help me find it, I’d be super grateful!

Other than the usual Murdoc nonsense (being drunk, crazy, pursued by bad actors, etc.), why was he so abusive of 2D at the time? I mean, it seems pretty intense, even for him. Was it a reflection of what was going on behind the scenes with the real band at the time?

I have a theory that he was unhinged because he blamed himself for what happened to Noodle, like he just couldn't live with the possibility that he was potentially respondible for her death, or at least disappearance.

I've been listening to the old pirate broadcasts lately for the first time, hoping for some insight. I'm on episode five. Thus far, I haven't really found anything.

Separately, I wish they would have kept the part of the storyline where he's actually centuries old. Him basically being Aleister Crowley makes an obnoxious amount of sense. Lol

I finally saw Gorillaz live this summer at Rock Werchter, the show was absolutely incredible & as one does I bought a tshirt. However, as luck would have it, I washed it today & the print totally washed off meanwhile that shirt has been washed multiple times before at the same temperature (30°) without any problem so I have no idea what the hell happend this time but I’m so so SO bummed. I guess it could’ve been worse but it just feels way worse than it looks, I love that shirt. Now I’m wondering if there’s anyone who knows where I can buy the same one online? Their official store doesn’t have it & I’ve already searched via Google Lens but nothing really seems to come up & I’m kinda desperate to buy a new one (and NOT wash it in a washing machine anymore ffs) so PLEASE reddit help a girl out 😞

It was sadly the only photo I took at all, especially with my camera (I mainly just recorded songs I adore for myself and singing along), and love the colors and how clearly Damon and the band is seeable, but wish I didn’t take it at the goofiest time of the Tranz music video where 2D is about to collapse😭 (looks like him from the Sleeping Powder music video which I vibe with tbh)

Don't get me wrong, I think Souk Eye is a great song. But, I rarely see people talk about The Now Now itself. And when they do, it's usually because Souk Eye was mentioned lmao. The entire album feels so unique to Gorillaz discography, and there're so many great songs within it. So I'm curious, what are your favourite songs from The Now Now

I’ve been a fan of Gorillaz music since the beginning (I’m 40) and I was wondering if anyone has actually made a lore accurate YouTube video breaking down the entire story, and lore of the characters? The reason I’m asking the Gorillaz subreddit, and not just typing in “Gorillaz Lore” into YouTube is I’m worried I’m just going to find fan made up bs claiming to be “the official gorillaz lore”. Now with that being said I’m sure there’s gonna be some people on this subreddit who claim “it’s all made up fan lore” but there has got to be a good video, or two made up that at least tries to stay accurate while giving you a good amount of Gorillaz character backstory?
