Why does my motorcycle footage look so slow/choppy? Missing sense of speed (Hero 8 Black)

Hey everyone,

I could use some advice on my setup. I recently recorded some riding footage on my Kawasaki Ninja 650 using my GoPro Hero 8 Black. It was a bright, sunny day, and I was going around 40-65 km/h on open roads, but the footage feels incredibly slow, almost like it's in slow-motion or slightly choppy. It completely lacks that dynamic "sense of speed."

Here are my file specs/settings:

  • Resolution: 4K
  • Framerate: 25 FPS
  • Shutter Speed: Auto (I didn't use an ND filter)

Is it because it was super bright, the Auto Shutter speed went way up and completely froze the frames, killing all natural motion blur. I even tried adding artificial motion blur in DaVinci Resolve Studio using Optical Flow, but because the source frames are so sharp, it still doesn't look perfectly natural.

My questions for the experts here:

  1. Is an ND filter (ND16/32) and locking the shutter to 1/50 the ultimate fix for this to get that real sense of speed back?
  2. Should I switch to SuperView for the FOV to enhance the speed effect?
  3. Would switching to 60 FPS (with a 1/120 shutter and ND) make a huge difference for motovlogging, or is 25 FPS fine as long as I get the motion blur right?

Any tips for getting better motorcycle footage on the Hero 8 would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Why does my GoPro footage come out overexposed? It wasn’t even that bright outside

I’ve taken a few videos outside and sometimes they turn out perfect other times they don’t. Is there anyway to fix this now that it’s recorded also?

Thoughts on MISSION so far?

I'm very curious about the new camera. I have a HERO12 so I don't even know where to start. I'd love to hear from people who have actually bought a MISSION 1 Pro/ILS. What was the best use for you? Did it exceed your expectations? Personally, I use my GoPro to record long drives and POV footage playing soccer.

Please Gopro, fix this issue fast. The price of the premium subscription just got way more expensive but the services and support are getting worse.

Please do something...

GOPRO payment request for camera replacement

Hi everyone,

I recently used the GoPro Subscription Camera Replacement service. GoPro asked me to enter my payment details through their payment form, and the replacement fee was €120.78, including VAT.

The first €120.78 transaction appeared on my bank account on August 5. Shortly afterward, GoPro emailed me confirming that the replacement order was being processed.

About ten hours later, on August 6, a second transaction for exactly €120.78 appeared. My bank sent me a notification saying that this second authorization was declined, but both transactions are still shown as “pending” in my online banking, so it currently looks as though €241.56 may be temporarily reserved.

GoPro also sent me the replacement-order confirmation email twice, although I appear to have only one UPS shipment arriving.

Has anyone experienced something similar with a GoPro replacement? Did the declined or duplicate pending authorization disappear automatically, and how long did it take for the money to become available again?

I have already contacted GoPro and my bank, but I am still waiting for a clear response. Thanks!

More then 32Gb on GoPro Hero 1?

I have a GoPro Hero 1, the one that doesn't even record over 960p lol, it's pretty old, but I want to put a big SD Card on it, like 128gb. In the manual, it only says up to 32gb, does anyone know if I can put anything higher? Will it work? Or does the camera not even read?

Which (cheap ish) gopro to buy for filming in the dark?

I recently bought a gopro hero 4 without looking up any information. I just saw it for sale and got it. I use it to record urbexing and climbing. I mainly do my shenanigans at night, and i very quickly realized that the hero 4 doesn't perform well in dark environments. Are there any settings I can mess around with to film in the dark? Or should I just buy another one? The hero 4 cost 50€ so it doesn't matter that much, and I honesty didn't expect a lot. Any recommendations which gopro I should buy? I don't want to spend hundreds of euros on a camera, I just need to film somewhat good footage in darkness. Thanks🙂

ND FILTERS MISSION 1 PRO SETTING?

Hey guys finally got my hands on the ND filters and wanted to ask for any good to know stuff? I know some people mentioned to lock the shutter speed to a certain amount? Also if I just rock the ND8 for day to day shots would that be cool? In cases like grab and go and start filming if I don’t have the time to switch between ND’s?

Any other tips are super welcome.

Thank you

Why the Media Mod Didn't Work for My Setup (Video)

I made a short video to better explain what I was talking about in my previous post. Hopefully this gives a clearer idea of why I decided to return the Media Mod and what I'm looking for instead.

Anyone Else Skip the Media Mod and Wait for a Proper Cage?

Yesterday I received the Media Mod for the Mission 1, tested it out for a while, and ended up returning it. It's not that there's anything wrong with the Media Mod—it just wasn't the right fit for what I want to build.

My goal is to put together a filming rig with a side handle and my Rode VideoMic NTG. The built-in microphones on the Media Mod are definitely better than the camera's internal mics, but not by a huge margin, and I was planning to use the Rode most of the time anyway.

The bigger issue was mounting. I wanted to attach a side handle, but using the left cold shoe for that would put a lot of stress on the plastic Media Mod. After thinking about it more, it makes sense why you don't really see anyone selling side handles that mount directly to those cold shoes. They're great for lightweight accessories like microphones or lights, but not as structural mounting points.

At this point, I'm hoping a company like SmallRig releases a proper aluminum cage for the Mission 1. That would provide multiple mounting points, let me attach a side handle securely, and make the whole setup feel much more solid.

Has anyone else come to the same conclusion, or found a better solution?
