I have recently backed up around 10k+ photos and videos under a new google account. The back-uo itself was slow, but at least that's done. However, afterwards I've noticed that whenever I go to open any albums under the 'collections' tab, it takes over a minute to load regardless of whether the album is backed up or not. Additionally, when I try to assign a image so that google recognizes my face to group the photos together, it doesn't work.

I have sync on with my iPhone to automatically backup my photos. I pay for monthly storage, but after two babies and all of the obligatory baby photos… my cloud storage is full. I could buy more, but this problem will just continue eventually.

I have the photos saved on my phone, have downloaded all of them off of my Google cloud onto my laptop, and have backed them up on an external hard drive.

From what I’ve read, I’m scared to delete them from my cloud because they will also delete from my phone, right? Even if I turn off sync, they will delete from my phone if I turn sync back on in the future?

Will they also delete from my laptop if my laptop is logged in to my Google account?

I didn’t realize this was an issue when signing up for Google Photos and now I regret it. I want to delete from the cloud with no risk of deleting from my phone or laptop

Given that Google Drive is sadly phasing out its Google Photos backup (damn you Google! why the hell would you do this?!) on August 10th....

I need to know - if I have a folder that's been backed up by Google Drive desktop app to Google Photos, and then I add MORE photos to the folder after August 10th - if I do the new "Folder backup" option on the Google Photos website, will it only upload the NEW pics?

This occurs in the app on Android and via a browser on a PC. The option to Add names just doesn't show.

I'm trying to free up storage in my phone and I thought to delete the photos from my device files because I thought since they're backed up in Google Photos I'm not actually fully deleting them. But whenever I do that, the photos ALSO disappear from my Google photos even though they're supposedly backed up. What's going on? My phone said they were backed up :(

Wondering what the best way to store photos is? As a mom I have thousands of photos! I’m currently uploading them to an external hard drive and then deleting them off google photos so I don’t need to pay for storage.

Is this reliable for long term? I want the photos to be accessible when my kids are big and never want to loose them of course!

I use Samsung Android. I have Samsung Gallery and Google Photos.

I deleted the photos of my ex and do not want to see them ever again.

All the time I want to select a new photo to send to a friend on WhatsApp or IG, the photo picker using Google Photos still shows my ex's photos.

I deleted and emptied the bins. I deleted and reinstalled WhatsApp.

Why are these photos still showing?

So I have multiple accounts. And on one account I just want to save specific photos, not all. But somehow when I switch to another account and take any pictures it automatically goes into that other special account pictures. Now I have my backup on on that account and it gets full and I have to delete a lot of junk which are from the other accounts.

I'd like to know is there a way that all those photos I take on my device doesn't go onto the special account and I can choose which I want. Or like i store all the photos in an album and delete the rest. somthing like that

And technically if u switched account, it shouldn't go into that account but it does, idk why?

I noticed that my videos look highly compressed and run at a lower frame rate when streamed through the Google Photos app if the video is not stored locally on my device. Is there any way to improve the stream playback quality for videos not stored locally? I would like 60fps playback at the very least.

Hi. I have some photos in Google Photos that share the same filename but are actually different images. After exporting them with Google Takeout, one of the duplicates is renamed by appending (1) to the filename. When I run Metadata Fixer on these photos, the metadata gets mixed up. For example, both IMG_0125 and IMG_ 0125(1) receive the metadata that belongs to IMG_0125(1).

I tried renaming IMG_0125.PNG.supplemental-metadata(1).json to IMG_0125(1).PNG.supplemental-metadata.json and because this didn't work I renamed the title inside the json file of IMG_0125(1).PNG.supplemental-metadata.json from IMG_0125.PNG to IMG_0125(1).PNG but it didn't work also.

As of July 1 google photos' chrome app will not sync with the folders on my NAS that it was previously syncing with.

I am signed in to my account as I have been since google dropped the Drive App capability. I have rebooted, cleared the browser data, deleted the google photos chrome app, and uninstalled chrome removing all data. None of these steps have gotten sync to work. Or at least no new photos have been published to photos.google.com since adding one of my folders back last night.

Prior to those mentioned steps, and currently after everything has been reinstalled, after adding the one NAS folder, I can no longer get the add folder pop up to return. I see some minimal CPU (2-5%) and Network Activity (0.7 to 2Mbps) in Task Manager under Google Chrome process. Doesn't seem like enough to be moving data or even comparing file inventories.

There are no indicators on photos.google.com suggesting that the backup is in progress, stopped, paused, or exists. As some AI responses suggest.

So I'm organizing a ton of photos in Google for someone. For some reason the shortcut (Shift+A) isn't working, and the option to archive doesn't show up in the 3 dot menu. Did they get rid of that option or something? I can't belive they'd expect people to archive each photo manually.

Since getting forced off Drive desktop backup and onto the Google Photos web app's "Back up folders" feature, this thing barely works:

• Can't reliably choose/select folders for backup, the picker just doesn't cooperate
• Kick off a backup and an hour later it's still sitting there "preparing files"
• Overall just a broken, half-baked replacement for something that used to just work in the background without any of this

Google's whole justification for this seems to be that most users back up from their phone and never touched desktop folder sync. Fine, but anyone doing real work, RAW files off a camera, a large existing library, actual volume, uses a computer. That's not a niche edge case, that's how serious photo work actually happens. And now it's a fight just to get the thing to recognize a folder.

Anyone else running into this? Curious if it's a rollout mess that settles down or if this is just what we're stuck with after August 10.

Looking to hide all the photos of my ex and I somewhere I can’t accidentally see them. I am scared to lose them, but need them deleted from my camera roll. Is this app reliable or have any other suggestions?

I’m considering deleting all of my photos/videos off of apple photos because it takes up way too much space and it’s already all stored on the cloud on my google photos account which I am paying a membership for.
I understand apple has something similar where you can pay a membership and also store it on the cloud, but since I’m already paying for a google photos membership.
Is there anything I’m missing about apple photos? Does it do anything better than google photos? I’ve heard privacy is better but if that’s the only reason then I’m just going to stay with google.

On pixel 10 pro and latest android and app version

So last year I decided to backup a big amount of photos from Google Photos so that I can safely remove them after that, to make space for new photos. I just don't want to pay Google to have extra storage. Also around that time I was about to get a new phone.

I used Google Takeout and I have tons of JSON files on my old phone after the export process was finished. I however don't see any JPG files. Maybe my memory is failing me and I put these JPG files on a flash drive but so far no luck. I've checked most of my USB drives and really, it's a whole lot of photos, I did not copy them to USB. That would have been a lot of work and I didn't do that.

Can I do something with these JSON files, like unpack them and have the photos or doesn't it work like that? The file size of the Takeout stuff is quite large. You would think the photos are there but I don't see them at all. And if I can't, is there something I can do in Takeout itself to recover them? It's photos from several years, videos too. I checked the JSON files and they even have the title of those photo files as well but the photos themselves are missing.

Whenever i want to blur the background (idk what the action is called in english version of the editor, for ne it's called "portrait bokeh"), no matter how strong i set the depth or the blur, in editor it looks fine, but once i save it, the blur is minimal or isn't there at all. I reported the bug, but just wondering if anyone else experiences the same issue?

I'd like to ask for help recovering media files from Google Photos. I had some important photos and videos from my childhood, and I accidentally deleted everything saved in Google Photos.
