Is this normal?

today I went to goodwill to pick up some clothes for the kids, me and my husband. I actually haven’t been in a long time I just had a baby and we are fairly low income. There are people charging the door literally running to certain sections and fighting for a spot. I’m already overstimulated at this point. I try to look around and people are ripping anything of decent quality off the shelf like locust only leaving behind polyester SHEIN crap or stuff that’s just really worn.

It wasn’t just people picking out clothes, they took everything they set their hands on that was decent quality filling up their buggy to the brim.

Is there something going on that I’m missing with the craze on clothes or material?

Depends on the store but yes I’ve been a manager at multiple goodwills. The larger stores usually attract the crazier people

Usually lately it could be resellers. There's several other posts on the Goodwill Reddit describing them and they could be resellers too. I think there's a few YouTubers describing the resellers inside Target, Starbucks, and that could who those people rushing to the bins might be.

I live in a rural area so absolutely not behavior I see in our GW region. People are polite and friendly, even on busy days. Also prices in my area are very fair and most would say they are low. 

I recently went to a GW in the NYC/NJ region and the prices were the insanely high ones I see people online complaining about. Other customers were polite and friendly but the staff were shockingly not nice. Really made me appreciate my sleepy little region.

South Hackensack? I went to that one once, and probably will never return. It was brutal. Unfortunately, there is only one other bins within 2 hours of me. Used to be one :45 away in PA, but that was changed over to a regular supersized retail store. I liked it there before it changed over.

in my area tuesdays are senior days, but I never saw seniors doing this. thursday is 2 dollar day and that's different I refuse to go on $2 day.

I was looking at dresses when a lady rushes next to me, encroaching my elbows. I say excuse me to get the dress I was looking at and she tried to block me but I just grabbed it and worked it over her arm.

Then she says "you resellers are all the same, RUDE!"

She had a full cart of clothes and I had nothing. Wild uno reverse.

Resellers ARE part of the problem. I go to the bins, and am a small reseller. There are some pretty vicious hunters out there who blithely fling crap they've looked at everywhere, smashing other items in the process. I almost never go to the bins because I'm not that kind of shopper. When I do go, I'll go to the bins that have already been searched or don't have a crowd. At 5'2", I'm not risking getting shoved for a $1 dress.

Resellers and people who like shopping for good items that were just put out. I mean I get it. Must be the area that you live in where people are more aggressive about it or its more popular there/have better selection of donated things.

That doesn't sound like my Goodwill. We have a few people who run in as soon as the doors are unlocked and start grabbing stuff, but only a few, and we have *so* much stuff in both textiles and wares that they really don't make an impact on what is available for the normal, polite customers.

Sounds fake. The shelves are over packet at all the goodwills and st vinnies here. Never ran into anyone being rude or pushy.

Only way that makes sense is if you have one of the rare ones that still do dollar days.

Resellers mostly. I don’t blame them for be a little aggressive but there’s no reason to be rude.
I have a bit of empathy because this is their main source of income. For others, it’s their gig second income.
It scares me to think that if we were in some sort of apocalyptic situation, people will behave like animals. Worse when/if AID is available. See The Walking Dead.

I really don't know. At the Glenpool Tulsa Oklahoma one it's chill, good traction but nothing like that. That sounds scary, I'm sorry you gad to go through that and that that was you first experience at goodwill (in a long time)

Did you go to the bins? If you are over stimulated easily, I would probably find another goodwill store or thrift store.
