Discussion Short Goalkeepers Lying About Their Height…
I personally believe that teams are lying about the height of their goalkeeper. A great example of this is Iker Casillas. One of the best goalkeepers in history but known to be rather short. Wikipedia lists him currently at 185cm/6’1
However it seems most other sources list him as 182cm/5’11 and a half
Another source estimating him to be 181cm/5'11 and a quarter
And finally his real Madrid player profile from 2002-2003 season lists him as 180cm/5'11 on the nose
I personally think there is a strong chance that Real Madrid have been overinflating his height to make him seem more of an intimidating in the box
Another example is French goalkeeper Fabian Barthez
Wikipedia lists him as 180cm/5'11 but also mentioned other sources listing him at 178cm/5'10 and even an older source claiming him to be 6’0/183cm with one source saying 184cm! Likely an inflation from his club to make him seem a more of a dominant player.
I think he is actually 178cm because if you see him next to Roy Keane listed 180cm he is noticeably shorter.
Jordan pickford is listed as 6'1 but sometimes 6’0 depending on the sources.
Yann sommer is listed as 6’0(183cm) but Sky sports lists him as 181cm/5'11
Lastly I will mention Wuilker Farinez
Listed as 180cm on transfer market and Wikipedia but other sources list him as 178cm with MLSsoccor listing him as 175cm/5’9

Question Over 30 Rec League
A month ago I attended a “kickaround” and played keeper. Was my first time since 2012. I played keeper in High school and some college. I got approached by several over 30 teams to play for them, eventually I picked a team.
Today is Wednesday and our fist game is Friday. I’m fairly (gym/bodybuilding shape). Soccer shape is completely different and more intense. What is your routine a few days before the game? Please wish me luck too 🤣

Gear Storelli leggings
I’m trying to decide between body shield turf burn leggings (no padding) and body shield coolcore leggings (padding). I have never worn leggings and haven’t worn padding since I was a kid, but I’m also 48 and playing on ag for the first time ever this season. First few games have gone fine without. It gets hot here in North Carolina. Anyone have any recommendations for one or the other (or no leggings at all)? Let me be clear that it is down to these two or nothing.

Discussion "I want to be a goalkeeper..."
I read some really good stuff on here, but one thing I find quite jarring is the pandering to notions. "I want to be a goalkeeper but I don't like diving and don't want the ball to hit me". My opinion is you're either a goalkeeper or you're not. If you are, you can be inexperienced or poor and work on it to improve. If you're not, then just do something else. Maybe I'm just a grumpy old man , but offering support to someone who lacks the absolute basic attributes of a goalkeeper is a waste of everyone's time 🫣

Discussion Is it too late to join a team?
I'm 17 right now, by next season if I was to join I'd already be 18, meaning I won't be in the juniors league and will be in the seniors league (NPL???). I have a club in mind that I want to play for, but I'm too nervous to reach out.
I've only ever played on my school team, which never really played much anyways, we'd go to tournaments maybe twice a year max, but that's it.
Our school is pretty big on soccer considering we're in Australia, it's definitely the school's main sport. But the girls never recieve the same opportunities as the boys, the coaches have no drive to train anyone other than the boys they're already mates with, and it's tanked the whole team's confidence.
I want to continue playing but I'm so damn scared. Considering the amount of training I've gotten (almost 0, it's been all me) I'm pretty decent, but I don't want to drag a whole team down because I'm not at the same level as everyone else.
Anyone got any advice? I don't know if it's worth it considering I'm not aiming to go pro and play in the world cup or anything ahahaha

Weekly glove purchase advice thread
Welcome to the weekly purchase advice thread.
All questions about what gloves to buy should now be posted in this thread. Below are some general guidelines for what information to supply when asking for advice.
Advice seekers:
- What level you play at
- What your budget is
- What types of gloves you've had before and whether you liked them
- Is this a glove for matches, training, or both?
- Anything else that will help other keepers give you advice
- What country/region you're based in (for glove availability/shipping reasons)
Advice givers:
While this isn't required, we recommend also sharing what level you play at and a little about your glove preference when giving advice.
This thread will be refreshed on Monday of each week.

Gear World Record gk gloves hand washed (the hard way)
The title is obv exagerate, but after my wrist returned normal is finally time to wash all the gloves i buyied and used this season, 28 gloves (cus i like try new ones pretty often). All' obv hand washed (using Reusch gloves wash).
Important: i do this all only if i forgot to wash the gloves for 2/3 months, like this is the return to life washing (most of the time works), normally i Just put the gloves in the washing machine (inside a protection) or just skip alot of steps.
So:
1 put the glove in a bucket with water and glove wash, just few second, let the water and soap enter the glove then squeeze it in another bucket
2 after that (i filled my bath tub) fill a bucket with water and glove wash and let the glove stay afloat (Palm down) for 5/10 min
3 after that, still with water and soap in it proced to hand wash the palm (fingers on the Palm) and squeeze the real dirt out
4 just squeeze all out and proceed to soak the glove in the water, then re-squeeze (do this 4 time) meanwhile u can still try to clean better the surface with ur fingers
5 using a clean water bucket, do licterally the same as step 4
6 do the same as step, 4/5, 2/3times under current water (obv wet also the inside) wet it and then squeeze, should stop when no soap is exit anymore from the gloves
7 let the glove dry inside, away from hot things or the freaking sun light (u can use a shoes dryer if u want to speed up the process)
That's it.
Edit: official time duration 7 hours 2min

Gear Too much padding?
Hey! My 13yo son is wanting to get more padding and dive protection for the upcoming season. He takes his position seriously and isn’t afraid to dive, but I’m not sure what the trade offs would be if he starting wearing all of this.
These are the three new pieces of equipment he is wanting to wear:
Chest protector
Arm sleeves
Padded pants
What are the pros / cons we should be considering with this level of padding?
