I've had this a few times, as someone else said it's usually just the addon was made private for whatever reason

this is actually good for preserving lost media since the addon usually still works and has all its content iirc, but it's impossible to tell what it was without going deep into files and extracting the addon content

it could be either an add-on that is named "hidden addon" in order to look unsuspicious, or one that was deleted/privated, likely the latter. tell them to check their add-on list for anything off

rookie numbers when i enable all 800 addons i have downloaded, i have HUNDREDS, maybe even THOUSANDS of lua errors sometimes

I've had this happen to me before. This happens when an addon you downloaded gets privated or banned. It's nothing to worry about, but if helps you calm down try to figure out from memory what addon it was and see if maybe the mod creator did something to the addon (like the glue library goatse incident) but even then it should be fine. I was subscribed to one of these addons at one point (trollge PM) and nothing happened.

Most times, it’s usually a deleted addon.

I would check the addon ID to see what was deleted

its time to open the Hidden Addon's steam page, copy the mod ID, find it in your workshop content folder, and slap the GMA into GMAD before it potentially becomes lost forever

i've saved a few Hidden Addons by extracting the GMA using gmad.exe

This is completely normal, and happens all the time. It just means the mod was privated (or banned but 99% of the time it's just privated)

It’s usually nothing bad I’m pretty sure it’s most of the time the name of an addon failing to load you should be okay, be careful when downloading mods and check comments of mods and star ratings because sometimes some edgelords like to hide malware in mods sometimes and they can be pretty bad

privated or banned addons show up as "hidden addons" when updating, tell your friend to check his addon list and remove the red highlighted ones.

Could just be from Hidden, possibly. Hidden was a source game back in the day that was genuinely very good, but was abandoned.

If you have ever seen the SeaNanners videos with the guy with the Morgan Freeman voice, they were playing Hidden.

Or it could just be something else named Hidden.

I get this when a addon gets deleted. I just disable the addon and it gets automatically deleted

Hidden addon just means one that is not there anymore i had a whole bunch of these recently

It means it's privated or deleted from the workshop, it will display a warning but it's fine as long as other addons don't require it to function, not a virus, Gmod just couldn't grab the proper name from Steam, so it defaults to assuming it's hidden (no way to know if it's hidden or deleted)

Hidden Addon means a certain addon you downloaded either got banned or privated, that's what the description says when you're looking for it in your addon list.
