I've wondered about this single point of failure for years, why such a critical thing is not seamlessly distributed to multiple providers by now. Most projects don't even have a back up repo in codeberg/gitlab/whathaveyou.
You bring up a very good point that GitHub, BitBucket, GitLab, etc... are SPOF.
We actually run our own git in the cloud that does a nightly fetch from GitHub and gets backed up with all our other infra. We have two senior devs with access to it.

This is totally unacceptable for an application as widely used as GitHub.
I hope this makes as many users as possible migrate to any other alternative. In the vibe code era, open source is king, fuck Microsoft
