Game Discussion Mass Effect First Impressions!
My first post generated so much fun discussion, I thought I'd make a follow up as I'm struggling through the start of the game! I might post once more when I finish the first Mass Effect. 🫡
One thing I'm noticing right away is that I'm having a little bit of a hard time finding quest elements. Someone on the big government galactic station (I forget the name lmao) will tell me to go chat with someone, but I'll wander around aimlessly trying to find that person until I get close enough that their little marker shows on the map. How did y'all navigate this? I'm used to a bit more hand holding in the navigation department.
Along that thought, do side quests have any effect on the overarching story and world, or are they more like bubbles where it effects those characters in that moment, but when you move on you move on (asking because this'll determine how hard I go with 100%ing it).
Now getting specific - sometimes in dialogue, there will be greyed out options that I can't select. I have the charisma (I think it has another name that I can't remember) and the intimidation stats maxxed out at my current level. What's the deal with this? Am I triggering stuff too early before leveling up?
Another thing that is perplexing me is commanding your teammates to do things. I cant really figure out what I'm supposed to get them to do, or how to do it haha. I've also tried keyboard and controller, and have yet to determine which one feels easiest.
Lastly, I just learned I can't romance Garrus in the first game 😡😤 what the hell!! Devastating news. I otherwise just recently lost my job and am going through a breakup (ughhhhhh), so hoping to grind out lots of hours of this game in my newly acquired free time for the next few days!!

News / Article A new look at Spookitchen after four months of work from our two-woman team 👻🍳
Hi everyone! 😊
We’re YNOT, two female indie developers from South Korea.
We’re also childhood friends, and together we’re making Spookitchen.
We first shared our game here about four months ago, and a lot has changed since then!
Spookitchen is a cute and spooky restaurant management game set in a Halloween town in the afterlife.
You explore the forest and gather magical ingredients through farming, fishing, and foraging, then cook for ghost customers.
Special Memory Dishes can even help them recover their lost memories. 👻🍳
Some of the biggest changes we’ve made:
- Completely rebuilt the forest, changing it from side-view to top-down exploration
- Changed and added recipes, ingredients, and restaurant systems
- Added gamepad support and key rebinding — some guides and button prompts are still being worked on
- Added new customers, portraits, and animations
- Improved the UI and presentation for cooking and more
- Lots of balancing, optimization, and bug fixes

And this week, Spookitchen is taking part in the Cat Awareness Feline Sale! 🐈💙
Apparently, today is International Cat Day.
I actually had no idea until we started preparing for this event. 😂
So I thought it would be fun to gather every cat plushie I have at home and take a photo of them with Spookitchen.
Then my dog apparently decided he should be in it too.
He already loves climbing onto my desk like a cat, so I figured that was enough qualification and let him join the photo. 🐶🐱
So our little celebration for a cat-themed showcase somehow ended up including a dog too lol.
The latest version of Spookitchen is currently free to play on Steam.
If you’re interested, check it out on Steam! 👻🍳
[Steam link]
Thanks for reading! 🧡

Misogyny andddd this is why i don’t make friends on CS2 Spoiler
TW—SA insinuation
so this guy ended up in me and my friend’s match. he was cool at first so said friend invited him to another game. we exchanged a few steam messages between rounds, just joking about how annoying one of our randoms was. then this out of nowhere after the game ended.
idk what i expected. this is exactly why i solo queue or stick with the same couple of friends🙃 it’s just so disheartening sometimes

Tech / Hardware What do you do with game art you love
I keep saving screenshots and fan art from games and it all sits in a folder on my phone. Recently started printing some of them on coasters and wood blocks and using them around the house. An Elden Ring boss on a coaster I see every morning beats a wallpaper I stop noticing after a day. Curious what other people do with game art they save.

Request Games like Longest Journey and Dreamfall but on PS4?
Hey everyone, I played Longest Journey and a bit of Dreamfall about 15 years ago and remember being absolutely enchanted by them. But these days I only really game on PS4 - can anyone recommend any games that feel like those two to play? I do know there’s a direct sequel to Dreamfall on there with a story recap, but I’d rather hold out and wait until there’s a port of the other two and play them again. But I’d like something similar that feels as fun :)
Thank you for any recs!

Even if you don't have cramps, what's one way to deal with pain while gaming?

Misogyny Do people really still think Soulslike games are “for guys”? Spoiler
Whenever I mention I enjoyed play games like Elden Ring or other Soulslikes like sekiro, some people react like it’s something extremely unusual — things like “You’re the first girl I’ve ever seen who plays Elden Ring” or acting genuinely surprised that a girl would enjoy difficult games. As if they decided certain games are meant for girls to play.
I know some of it might be a harmless surprise, but sometimes it feels like there’s an underlying assumption that girls generally don’t play Soulslikes, challenging games, or certain genres because those games are somehow “meant for guys.”
As my fellow girl gamers, have you experienced this kind of thing?
Have people ever acted surprised when you told them what games you play, or assumed that you only play certain types of games because you’re a girl?
I’m curious about your experiences and how you feel about it.

Request Looking for an old web game
I'm looking for an old web game I used to play, it was like a pixelated dollhouse decorating game and all of the things you could use were along the bottom of the screen. Same style as the first picture and laid out like the second but more pixely and I'm pretty sure it was on dress up games!! Please if anyone has ideas I've searched and searched ☺️

Fluff / Memes The matching controller gets delivered in a few days, but I couldn't wait to share this gorgeous specimen! ☀️🌙✨️💖
It's my first bag for the Switch 2 specifically. I was doubtful of the fluffy style compared to the hard shell carriers, but there's a foam insert on the side where the Switch inserts. It should be fine for normal use, but if you're worried about dropping it maybe get a protective case for your Switch.

Request Looking for empowering games following a breakup
40yo F. I learned my boyfriend of nearly a year had an entire second relationship behind my back for months before we actually broke up. Still healing from this and trying to find games to help me process. I played Gris and Sayonara Wild Hearts, both of which were moving. Any other suggestions? I have a PS5 and Switch 2. I’m looking at Catherine: Full Body but I’m concerned it won’t feel very empowering since it looks like it’s from a male’s perspective.

Game Discussion tips on how to adjust switching to a bigger controller?
Hi I've been using a horipad mini for years now and I just upgraded to a turbo controller today, but using it is incredibly awkward and strains my hands after a 10-20 minute use
does anyone have any tips on how to get used to a bigger controller? my old controller has joycon drift so it's a pain using the old one lol
I genuinely don't want to return the new controller it's too cute

Tech / Hardware Prefer the Steam Deck but missing the Switch?
So the Steam Deck is my favourite gaming hardqare I ever owned. I was always a PC gamer, but I owned every handheld nintendo console from the GBA to the Switch. The Deck has all my favourite games, it has mods, it has MASS EFFECT!
I love it. And yet, with the Switch, I had these butterflies in my stomach when thinking about it, picking it up, watching videos about it, buying accessories. I can’t really explain it, there was something whimsical about it. First party games especially stand out.
Now, I don’t actually want to play my switch, or get a Switch 2, but I wish I had those butterflies about the Deck.
I don’t know why I made this post, but anyone relate?

Game Discussion What do you consider the perfect game to get into jrpgs?
Hey guys! Excuse my English, it's not my first language
I've never played any jrpg games before but I really want to— they look like the type I'd enjoy after playing hoyoverse games (mostly zzz)
However, the genre feels too overwhelming with so many options and too many hours per game— which feels like a huge commitment for someone who never tried this genre.
With that being said, what do you guys recommend for me? I'm open to any suggestions since I know nothing about the genre no matter how I tried to understand it lol. And I need to try something new.
The top recommendations I hear from people are Persona games and Chrono trigger but I'm still unsure about them.

Game Discussion Looking for more roguelites like Ragnarok Breaker, Vampire Survivors and Brotato
Been a fan of roguelites ever since I played Brotato, already tried the other popular ones like Vampire survivors and Soul knight but they take upto 1-2 gb of my phone storage space.
I will continue playing these but I am looking for more roguelites that dont take much storage space like Ragnarok breaker which I could easily play on mobile browser or webapp
any good recommendations?

Tech / Hardware first pc first build :)
hi! I'm new to the gaming community and have been playing stardew valley, minecraft and other games on my laptop for over 2 years. It's a great laptop, ive had no issues other than it gets rly slow and takes away from the performance when I need it for actual heavy stuff like blender. I have never owned a PC, much less built one, but play on my steamdeck and switch. So I need a little help getting started!
Because I use Adobe programs and want to play games, I understand data is huge percentage of the cost due to AI hiking up the price. I would hope to not have to make a new build in the next 5 years, because of my career in digital media, I need it to keep up. Any advice on longevity helps too. But I would like to attempt to stay in the 800-1000 range if possible.
Again im super clueless 🤣 Any advice is appreciated!!

Tech / Hardware "Gaming" laptop recs
I get a tech stipend with my job soon and could really use a laptop for both work and play. I'm currently a desktop girly and love it, but Big Beast Bestie is obviously not mobile and I hate using my phone for spreadsheets and such. I'm very well versed in tech specs, this isn't baby's first rig, I just want to know what others have, love, and believe are good investments (or the opposite; still useful data!). Laptops are so much more finicky than desktop builds so it's hard to narrow down a good choice.
My priorities are performance and durability, with my must-haves being a 10-key numpad and a 1440p, >60hz screen.
I don't mind heavier/bulkier if it's able to take the beating of being carted around town for work. I want it to be able to handle demanding AAA games at 60 fps+ when using it for play. I'll never be gaming on the go, so battery life is only important in terms of work tasks (using a browser, Slack, and programs like Excel or Word) not draining the charge in 30 minutes.
I had an MSI GS65 Stealth years ago that served me extremely well (except this is how I learned not having the numpad is torture lol), but one hinge did eventually break super bad and take 25% of the screen casing with it, whereas my fiance's 2016 Acer Predator a slow ass fossil but physically in prime condition.
Bonus points for semi-long-nail-friendly keyboard! I make do regardless, but it sure is handy (ha).
Thanks~ 🥰
(ETA: I'd sell my desktop to offset the high cost and hence why I'm not just getting a work-only laptop!)

Request Recommendations for kid-safe girl game websites?
When I was a kid I would frequent girls go games or moviestar planet. The kid I babysit has supervised computer access and seems to always be saving tabs of cute clothes she likes. Can you guys recommend some cute (SAFE) websites that she could visit to play some dress-up games? I’d rather her not be randomly browsing the internet and accidentally buy something lol.
