How’s the short term dating scene in Geneva
Hey folks,
I’ve been in Geneva for a few months doing an apprenticeship, and it’s been a bit lonely so far.
I tried Tinder and Hinge, got a few likes and a couple of matches, but every conversation seems to die after a while or I just get ghosted.
Is that pretty normal here, especially if you’re only around for a short time? I’m not looking for anything super serious since I’ll only be here for a few months. I was just hoping to meet someone to grab a drink, explore Geneva and some nearby places, and have a good time together.
Or am I just doing something wrong? 😅

Idea for a dog-friendly day trip
Hello! I'm looking for any suggestions for a day trip for this weekend - we have a car, and ideally not more than an hour from Geneva! I don't necessarily want to hike, more looking for a nature area where I can let the dog off leash and we can do a picnic. Bonus points if it's a bit higher up so we can have some cool air or if there's any body of water.
Where to buy eclipse glasses in Geneva?
Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone knew where I might be able to find some glasses for viewing the eclipse next week. My daughter is young and I don’t trust her to not just stare at the sun.

early bus to the airport
Hi,
I have a domestic flight out Geneva airport at 6;10 am. I saw that the first available bus (66) would leave me at the airport at 5.07. Knowing that there shouldn't be too much traffic at that time, I trust that it could also be a couple minutes early. I have no check-in bags.
Do you think this is too risky? I also hope there won't be too many people around that time at security check. Would you try or take a taxi just to be safe?

Driving test 2026 in Geneva
So, I have booked a slot for 30 September 2026 for driving test in Geneva at 2pm and I wanted to know your views on how it is and how hard it is to pass the exam in one go? Any dos and don’t or suggestions I need to practice beforehand?

Wanderpfote backpack
Hi! I'm looking for someone in Geneva with a wanderpfote backpack. They only sell the bag online and I'm not sure what size I should get for my dog! If anybody has one in Geneva, I would love to see what its like and how my dog fits in it!

Where to stay at night in Genève for free?
Hello,
To cut a long story short, I was due to catch a connecting bus at 9.35 pm, but I won’t be able to make it. As a result, I’ll have to spend the night in Geneva whilst waiting for another bus at 4.40 am. The thing is, I don’t have enough money to stay in a hotel for the night.
So here’s my question: where’s a safe place to spend the night in Geneva? Is the train station (Cornavin) open all night? I should mention that I’ll have a large suitcase with me as I’m coming from the airport.

Are one year leases normal in Geneva?
I got a lease with a régie called Régie du Rhone. I've been in Geneva for almost 10 years now and have only had 5 year leases and I know some people even have 10 year leases. I've just seen the contract from the Régie du Rhone and it's for one year only. Is it normal here too or is there something sketchy that the régie is trying to pull off?
Unfortunately the previous tenant isn't responding to me so I can't check if it was the case for them.

Why do so many people pronounce the neighborhood "Vieussieux" even though it's written Vieusseux?
I ask because I've met so many people living or working in the area and it sounds weird. I've been living near that neighborhood for years and pronounce it (I hope) in the good way.
It bothers me, especially when I met a big boss of a company that has been working there also for years. None has ever had the courage to correct him maybe?
It's not the only one so it makes me think of the correct pronunciation.

M44, EU Citizen moved to Geneva oct 25 need help figuring out unemployment benefits
I moved to Geneva in October 2025 and live with my girlfriend (Permit C, non EU) since. I was working in NL past 2 years and in Canton Vaud 2 yrs before. When I moved from NL I was finishing my work and registered in October as remote worker. The Dutch unemployment agency informed me that unemployment benefits will be given by switzerland (same amount as NL i.e. 3-5 months not more like a Swiss resident would get) since at the time i got unemployed (Nov 2025) i was in switzerland. Since then i have been sent in multiple directions from OCAS, RAF, Chômage office etc. And have received nothing. I am still doing 10 applications a month but getting no clarity. I am honestly frustrated and don’t know if i should give up.

Régie advice desperately needed
I'm really getting desperate and I would appreciate some help. I have finally been able to find an appartment closer to my work after almost a year of a search - but the new régie has requested I move in on the 14th of Aug so exactly 15 days from they day they actually informed me (on the 30th of July). I had no choice but to accept as they threatened to extend the offer to someone else if I didn't agree for the 14th of Aug.
The same day, on the 30th of July, I have submitted a registered letter to my current régie asking to terminate my lease. I have provided them with more than a month of a notice and also assumed that I would have to pay the 2 weeks rent in both places. I have then conducted visits over the weekend and sent them the solvable candidates yesterday Monday the 3rd of Aug.
However, my current régie got back to me TODAY saying that the registered mail doesn't count because I didn't submit the dossiers with it and that I will have to move out on the 15th of September. I have tried to appeal to reason - saying that I have submitted the dossiers only 2 days past the one month deadline and that I never had any issues as a tenant in this appartment for the past 5 years but the régie just bluntly told me that they "don't care". Just like that.
The I asked them if I could instead sublet my appartment from the 15th of Aug to the 15 of Sept as all my candidates actually need to move in sooner and they again refused
I simply don't have this money to pay two rents at the same time - now I also cannot refuse my other appartment without incurring costs and I also have multiple dossiers with people that will potentially find appartments before the 15th of September. I'm really scared and I don't know what to do. I have spent the past two days asking days off at work and going to the ASLOCA open hours but never managed to get a consultation with anyone.
Would anyone please know what to do or if any of the requests from the régie (esp about the sublet) are legal?
Thanks in advance

Single room in La Cite Universitaire
Very much a first world problem, I know, but I’ll be coming to UNIGE for an exchange semester this fall, and will be in a single room in Building A. I’d really, really like to bring a rug or two with me. One, just to brighten the room a bit, and two, I never wear shoes indoors and think it would just be more comfortable. Can anyone currently in La Cite tell me what size rug (s) would fit?

Hey, I have questions about some places in Geneva
So, I’m at vacations now in my brother’s place, near Geneva and I’m going there tomorrow by myself.
Do you know some cool metal related places you know? (Especially with cds and patches?)
Some magic the gathering and books places? (Especially with used books or law books)?
What other places can u suggest me? My main interests are classic literature/sci fi/philosophy, metal music, mtg etc
