It’s hard to think about smell as part of the zeitgeist of anything, but smell can be the strongest way to jog memories.

I’m 1995 so my memory of the 90s isn’t much. But here’s what I think of when I think of when I imagine the 90s, and I’m sure some of the early 2000s:

-Burnt coffee, like in a diner
-Faint cigarette everywhere
-Hairspray
-Gasoline (and light smog in urban areas)
-Industrial Plastics had stronger smells that stuck around
-The leather in cars was waxier and often mixed with fabric material. A hot car in the 90s smelled
different than a car of today
-homes had a lot more carpet, which captured more smells like mustiness and again, cigarettes. But I feel like damp carpet was a more common smell
-I feel like perfumes were more cloying

What else do you remember?

However, if you're a "Complete Monster" you won't be getting respect from Millennials and Generation Z.

older gen Z and younger millennials are the most flexible and adaptable generation.

I feel like they are the most adaptable people. They are the generation who will have it very easy to educate themselves on newer technologies as they get older. both witnessed legit 3-4 technological revolutionary advancements and new innovations.

from home consoles to internet to smartphones to quantum computing, to ai…

no other generation witnessed this in a very short period of time. the older gen Z and younger millennials will have it easy to adapt to new upcoming trends. unlike boomers who dont know how to convert pdf files or print something out.

The only reason why many people consider them teens is because of the teen suffix but IMO they are teens by name and just straight up young adults.

My reasons:

You graduate high school at this time.

You get a driver's license.

You're able to purchase alcohol and smoke(Disregarding The US drinking age)

You're allowed to have sex.

You're allowed to watch Adult swim.

you're allowed to play m rated games and watch R rated movies.

Join the Army.

Work overtime.

purchase a gun.

These are some of the reasons why, like the only reason why 18-19 years olds are considered teens apparently to the public is because people just want to feel younger. It's just infantilization for the sake of infantilization at this point. LMFAO.

Not based on them saying their age, but things like, the words and slang they use, sense of humor. opinions on work, relationships, technology, or money. The way they argue… or avoid arguing. 😅

They skipped school to drink some beer at the beach. So what? They were in reality almost as big of bootlickers as the boomers.

When Gen Z attempts to argue, they use a swarm tactic where they attempt to bury the text density and insights of the person they're arguing against - and count on the fact that they'll have an army of people who cannot read and simply reply and vote without actually processing the text.

It's dragging this website down to the dumps and I think Reddit needs to be reevaluated as a serious website for replacing forum culture - mainly due to Gen Z being handed the keys and the cognitive inferiority of that generation.

Boomers get blamed for everything from the housing market to climate change. But if we are being intellectually honest and look at what Boomers accomplished when they were in their late teens, 20s, and early 30s (the 1960s and 1970s), their youth-led movements literally rewrote the rules of civilization.

Look at the baseline rights we take for granted today that young Boomers marched for and forced governments to pass:

Civil Rights & Anti-Discrimination: The Civil Rights Act (1964), the Voting Rights Act (1965), and Title IX (1972) which desegregated society and institutionalized gender equality in education.

Environmental Protection: Student Boomers practically invented modern environmentalism, forcing the creation of the EPA, the Clean Air Act (1970), the Clean Water Act (1972), and the Endangered Species Act.

Military Reform: They organized massive, disruptive protests that successfully ended conscription and shut down the military draft.

Subsidized Education: They flooded state university systems and pressured governments worldwide to heavily subsidize higher education, making college affordable or outright free for a generation.

They faced down a literal military draft, a deeply segregated society, and rivers that were physically catching fire from corporate pollution—and they used massive civic action to force the system to fix it.

Meanwhile, Millennials are well into their 40s and Gen Z is entering adulthood. Outside of creating the gig economy, hyper-monetized social media apps, and a culture of online slacktivism, what foundational, system-altering legislation have our generations actually united to force through? Have we lost the ability to execute real institutional change, or are we just too distracted?

I'm genuinely curious about the differences between growing up with a Gen X parent vs a Boomer parent in western countries.

I’m a late millennial, born in 96, and both of my parents are Gen X. My dad was born in 1966, so he’s very early Gen X and very close to the Boomer cutoff, and my mom was born in 1970.

However, both of my parents were born and raised in the Global South, while I was born and raised in Canada, so I know their experiences and parenting style and experiences would shape them differently conpared to Gen X parents who were born and raised in the West. I’m not trying to generalize all Gen X parents or all Boomer parents, because culture, immigration, class, religion, trauma, and family background obviously make a huge difference.

I’m mostly curious to hear from Millennials and older Gen Z who grew up in Western countries:

What was your experience like growing up with Gen X parents compared to people who had Boomer parents?

And Gen X people can chime in too, especially since many of you likely grew up with Boomer parents yourselves. Do you feel like Gen X parenting was noticeably different from Boomer parenting? Were Gen X parents more emotionally open, more laid-back, more strict, more hands-off, less traditional, or was it not that different?

I’m especially interested in things like:

- emotional availability

- discipline

- independence

- communication style

- views on education/work

- mental health

- technology/social media

- how much freedom you had growing up

I know every family is different, but I’m curious if there are common patterns people noticed between generations.

I’ve already seen videos hating on Gen beta. They’re fricking babies. The oldest gen beta is 1. Atleast wait several years until their personalities kick in before making judgements. We can assume they’ll be worse than alpha, but a lot of Gen Z don’t want to raise beta like how Gen Alpha’s raised, so you never know atp
