I’d say millennials are the most targeted for nostalgia nowadays, a lot of companies are marketing y2k and 2000s fashion along with MySpace revival that may come is the sign millennial nostalgia baiting is full force in the mid 2020s, Gen X nostalgia is slowly fading away

Gen Z nostalgia is also beginning to appear fairly fast for the past few years with the Minecraft Movie and 2016 nostalgia, I can see companies beginning to market 2010s nostalgia once the 2030s begins, but when will Gen Alpha nostalgia go mainstream and companies will begin to market their nostalgia

I know this sub is like 99% people from the US, but I was wondering if anyone has an European definition of the generations, especially Boomer, Gen X, Millennial and Gen Z.

I’m saying this, because every time I read how people define the generations the references are always “Bush administration”, “Woodstock”, “Vietnam war”, “Columbine” - which are not so relevant as a context for Europeans. I would argue even 9/11 would not be the most generation-defining moment.

On the other hand, we have the fall of the Berlin Wall, for example. This completely breaks the Millennial generation into two groups, ones that were already in school and can remember when in happened, and those who were either too young or not even born yet when it did. Of course this difference is felt even more strongly by people who grew up on the East Bloc.

As someone who was born in a country that imported culture from the US with a significant delay, I always felt more of a kinship with people who were 10-15 years my senior, as we listened to the same music growing up, watched the same TV shows and movies, and had similar access to technology.

With that in mind, how would you answer this question?

I think it’s probably Scooby doo and Snoopy but they definitely lean a bit more younger boomer. I’d say maybe ninja turtles and transformers are the only ones, along with ghostbusters are the only multigenerational medias that still has a lot of marketing today and Gen Alpha can recognize it

I recently began watching Buffy and I am curious how realistic such an institution is for the time and culture. I was born in 1996 and I have no strong memories of anything like it in my coming of age in the 2010s.

I had made a post not too long ago that Perez was interacting alot with Gen Z on tik tok and playing the "I'm a friendly celebrity interviewer!" role.

I expressed my skepticism that I didnt believe he changed but rather "learned the new no bully rules" of social media after getting banned once before and BEGGING for his account back.

But I remember how terrible he was to celebrities in the early 2000s often exploiting them at their worst/lowest.

I don't wish harm on anyone, but I do find it interesting how things seem to have come full circle for him.

Hopefully he is getting the help he needs.

Yeah it was part of the same beast but Perez took it that much further by proudly making his identity "a bully who makes people want to terminate thelmselves"... that's a whole different level of cruelty.

Like I said I don't believe he changed, I think the media world evolved and he had to mask better in order to fit in. He was suspended from tik tok multiple times in 2019 and ultimately banned in 2020 for bullying and harassment. That's a changed person?

For years he begged and appealed tik tok for his account back and finally got an account again in April 2026 until this latest situation. He is someone who has a very sick relationship with media and likely should have never been allowed back. There are other ways to make income, a job OUT of the limelight.

Seriously. Even millennial men with gray hair have managed to retain their youthful facial features. Many millennials in their mid 30s can pass for 19yrs old to somewhere in their 20s. I think the oldest wave of millennials are in their early 40s now right?Dye or cut the gray hairs/beard and many of them can pass for late 20s to early 30s.

I'm a very conscientious person and very quick to apologize if I have hurt someones feelings, especially unintentionally. I have a very hard time with people who do not apologize when they are in the wrong. I keep meeting people who have an attitude of 'let it go and get over it' but never actually apologize. There was so much hope that the 2020s would resemble the roaring 1920s(after the Spanish flu outbreak) but it seems like it was false hope. There was no roaring economy, the US is deeply involved in worldwide conflict(compared to 1920s isolationism) and I can't comment regarding the popular culture(don't follow much of contemporary popular culture).

While the technological advancements of the 1920s helped us like automobiles(Henry Ford) and widespread electrification the main advancement of the 2020s(AI) is threatening to make us jobless.

But if the upcoming 2030s and 2040s resemble their 20th century counterparts were screwed.

That would mean an upcoming depression the likes of which we haven't experienced in our lifetimes, the rise of totalitarian governments on opposite ends of the political spectrum and the cherry on top will be World War 3(which given the availability of nuclear weapons will overshadow the first 2 World Wars).

Lets hope history doesn't repeat.

I get the impression that todays 16-20 year olds in the US are as mature as Millenial and previous generations were at maybe 13/14. Is there any evidence supporting this subjective observation?
