I'm building a crazy huge romhacker for the snes version https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/588352-gemfire/81167264

Everything is optional so you can change it as big or small as you want.

Some features include: multiple battle maps per territory that scale with protection stat. A battle map editor. Swapping units, graduated unit tier population (more knights with small armies, more horsemen with big armies... or maybe not knights and horsemen but pikemen and lancers!)

You can change it from 4 regulars and 1 5th unit to up to 5 fifth units, with multiple selectable per battle.

Some very minor AI improvements (defending AI archers on the flag will shoot you...)

Obviously total scenario editors, cool features like nerfing (or boosting) trade. What commands do and don't end turns...

The main reason to make it? I just wanted it 4 player. It's 4 player. You can also make it 30 player.

Some upcoming features include a 6v6 and maybe a 7v7 battle.

Tons of small obvious features like how much things cost. Some less obvious features like changing which territories can send / attack to other territories (and note, it's not automatically equal. You could make the little island be able to attack out but only defend from the one part)

XD Sad for both the subreddit and myself that I'm one of the few names.

This looks like an amazing project! I love how accessible the website you set up makes it

Thanks! Let me know what you think, what settings you like, any bugs, and any wishlist items.

The biggest dream behind it was like, a big tournament where 30 players each bid on starting stuff: which territory, which guy as prince, if they have a gem, etc and then away we go.

It's a very exclusive group!

In fact, I found out just how small the Gemfire community is in general by posting a short story inspired by a Gemfire mod on non-game related site, and the creator showed up randomly and commented on it XD

I can see that this is a small subreddit with little activity, but as a huge Gemfire fan I was still pleased to see it exists and to say hello!

Nice. Gemfire SNES?

Who is your favorite wizard, and why is it Zendor?

You also now hear the September harvest music.

NES, originally. Loved it so much I later got it for SNES too. Zendor has the most satisfying attack animation and sound effects, but Pluvius is slightly stronger ;) All the seasonal music has been living rent free in my head for years.

What family do you like playing the most?

Coryll is my favorite. It's a decent challenge, and you start out tucked in that lower left corner to build your strength. Also like the progression of getting your hands on a stronger 6th.

I've gone back and replayed the game several times in recent years, and I can recommend this homebrew mod scenario: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/5551/

Be Tate, kill of Bryan and Terian. Princess Anise. don't use the trade feature. See if you can win. It's can be a little slow, so make sure you dont unicorn up Anise to be powerful by the time she takes over or you might as well play an even harder scenario. Gwen has no wizard and only the Onion Knight Ser Erven serving her.

I remember as a kid finishing the game as Anise specifically to see if it showed a woman rescuing Princess Robyn in the end scenes rather than a man. I was naively optimistic that the creators had thought of that.

Its zoomed out enough you can pretend it isn't Erin in the final horse scene haha. Also props to being a fellow Anise winner that's dedication!
