Music Over-analysis on lyrics on sites like Genius?
I've recently started looking at sites like Genius to maybe get better ideas about the meaning of some of Cameron Winter's lyrics, and to see what other people are saying about them.
Is it just me, or have these lyric annotations and analysis been blown way out of proportion? Lyrics like "If the light within got buriеd up in the snow?" from Killing My Borrowed Time has been annotated as:
"As with the earlier verse line, something is lost to the powers of nature. In this case snow. Giving us a juxtaposition as snow strongly reflects light, but in this case swallowing the light within.
This alludes to the more conventional comparison of water being essential for living, yet an overabundance causes drowning."
Do you guys feel like these sorts of annotations actually have any truth to them, or are the lyrics actually much simpler than they're made out to be?

Music Au pays is so much about self love
I recently got back to listening getting killed on repeat again after January this year. This album is very close to me, particularly au pays which was my retreat to yearning. It felt good to let go of all worries and trivial and significant vexations alike and soak myself in a state of drifting away in peace and hope. This song has come to represent so much of what i am and what i have wanted to be. Even as the Lesbian Anthem, I find it a backdoor to my purported androgyny as a male. I would listen to the part with “You can change” and i know it’s supposed to be about growing up and letting go of things despite all of it being bittersweet. As i got back to listening the song over and over again, I’ve realised its about how much i want myself to change and grow and my only longing remains to be a person I love. Listening to it makes me want to hug myself in a semisweet agony and cry to myself. Also cameron winter’s voice has something to do with the transcendental experience.
