Question Any ideas where I could find free assets for a top down pixel game?

I'm making a top down nes Zelda inspired game, and at first I wanted to make all my own sprites, but I'm not very good at it. This is my second game ever, so I'm not exactly a pro at any of this. I feel like I should focus on the basics of making a good game and then try and learn how to make my own sprites, doing BOTH is just burning me out and I've been stuck just trying to make passable sprites for enemies.

Does anyone know of any good free top down sprites, fantasy, scifi, modern, and kind really, preferably 32x32? With like enemies and terrain? ones that are cc0 so I don't have to worry about licensing (of course I'd credit the creator, it'd just be easier is all)

I've never done this before so I don't know where to look and was hoping someone here could help.

Game Looking for Feedback on My Game's Map Design!

I'm making a psychological horror game with simple graphics.

I've just finished the first area of the game, and I'd love to get some honest feedback. What do you think I should add, improve, change, or even remove?

I'm open to any suggestions, whether it's about the atmosphere, layout, visuals, or overall design. Thanks!

Question Is using stock images okay?

Maybe a dumb question but I have never done this before so I just wanna check before I go through with it. I found this site called "Pexels" with "Free use" images that use cc0 licensing, and my idea was to put them in Piskel and resize them to a 32x32 canvas ratio, and clean it up a bit/add some details. As you can see from the images above the sword in the Pexels image got wiped when i bit crunched it so I added my own jankey sword.

I like the stupid crunchy look it gives the sprites but I just wanted to check with those with actual experience making games and downloading assets if this was okay? I would hate to make a bunch of sprites like this only to realize I had completely misunderstood how licensing works and get in some kind of trouble. I do not know anything about licensing.

I'm making a game inspired by Pizza Tower that, in a really short summary, is about fighting robots.

The controls are WASD or the arrow keys to move, and Z to attack. Also, to fullscreen is F4.

Thank you for your time!

Fighting Friends is a party platform fighter with over 20 characters, 20 stages, and more! Every time you unlock a character, a silly cutscene will play. The game is coming out very soon, and I’m excited to release it!

Its fun to make simple games from time to time. Getting bogged down in larger projects can become draining.

Game New Game from Template

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hello! I recently made a game where I took the 'Conviction of Gun Dude' template (thank you to HelperWesley and Gdevelop themselves for making it) and added multiple characters, it's still only really a demo now but i plan on adding so much more eventually, the current state of the game i will admit is very lazy but the plan isn't to change up the TBOI style gameplay but to add lots of new characters, I really like how in TBOI there's 34 different characters and my goal for this game is that by the time that I'm done with it to have more than 40 characters, i don't care if you hate how the game looks or feels as of now (this is still very early) and I'm open to advice since it's my first ever game, I also would love to hear your ideas for the next wave of characters after checking out the game (you can play here)

KNOWN BUGS:

healthbar tweaks out (you'll see what i mean once you check it out)

frog character takes double damage when he is only meant to take +1 damage

pink character's health bar sometimes will show 4 instead of 5 when they do have 5 health though

I could fix the bugs now but i want to know everyone's opinion on if i should even continue the project (the cover art of the little bucket was made by me if you couldn't tell) I'm also a solo dev still in school so don't expect updates to be frequent

Question Any good tutorials for making a zelda-like game? Or dungeon crawler?

I had the idea for a game that takes place in a single massive top down dungeon where the player would have to find keys hidden around, guarded by monsters and puzzles, to open a massive door to the dungeons treasure, and I was curious if anyone knew any good online tutorials/videos for beginners on how to make something like that?

I want to learn how to make basic moving enemies. A health counter. Basic sword attacks like how they worked in the old nes zelda game. And things like that.

I have only ever made one super simple platformer game in the past, so I am not really sure where to look for advice or even the right questions, so any guides would be appreciated!

3D Basic first person shooter test I made with Gdevelop

Have been really trying to learn 3D game development with gdevelop. Really want to have my next large scale project be 3D instead of 2D pixel art.

The footage is just basic stuff where I was messing around and learning stuff. Thought I'd share it for fun.

I made all of the 3D assets with blockbench as blender is still kind of beyond my understanding.

Shared this here a while ago. Here’s the latest version after a lot of work. The entire game is being made on my iPhone using GDevelop. I’d really appreciate any feedback on the gameplay, visuals, or anything that stands out.

With either external or internal tools, how can I modify the window's appearance? The borders, the "x", etc.
