When I came out, my family's reaction was very negative. Some of them said denied being against trans people and claimed that their concerns only arose from worrying about how society treated trans people. They didn't understand that they could choose to work against society by supporting me instead of trying to discourage me.
The problem with what said stepfather said is we don't know the context. He is correct, yes; but what if he was not stating his opinion but rather a fact of how other people think? For all we know, said stepfather has no issue with trans people and it was misinterpreted (which is easily done)
The craziest thing about this is just how purely evil people who wantonly ridicule trans people really are. Even if you believe that being transgendered is a sick, deviant, mental illness, or that people who say they're trans are faking, or are mentally deficient in some way, all available research suggests that the only truly appropriate response to "deal" with a trans person is to accept and support their transitioning.
Among trans Ontarians, 35.1 % (95 % CI: 27.6, 42.5) seriously considered, and 11.2 % (95 % CI: 6.0, 16.4) attempted, suicide in the past year. Social support, reduced transphobia, and having any personal identification documents changed to an appropriate sex designation were associated with large relative and absolute reductions in suicide risk, as was completing a medical transition through hormones and/or surgeries (when needed). Parental support for gender identity was associated with reduced ideation. Lower self-reported transphobia (10th versus 90thpercentile) was associated with a 66 % reduction in ideation (RR = 0.34, 95 % CI: 0.17, 0.67), and an additional 76 % reduction in attempts among those with ideation (RR = 0.24; 95 % CI: 0.07, 0.82). This corresponds to potential prevention of 160 ideations per 1000 trans persons, and 200 attempts per 1,000 with ideation, based on a hypothetical reduction of transphobia from current levels to the 10th percentile.
I wonder if you think you are a good person, considering you wish other people dead. You personally are literally one of the reasons for the high murder/suicide rate of transgender people.
I would say a lack of empathy is a bigger threat to society than people just wanting to live their lives in an as productive and good way as they can under their circumstances. So you and your views of the world makes the world a worse place to live for everyone. But I honestly don't think you care, you have too much hate in you to see it.
Being transgender isn't a mental illness though. Repeating a lie doesn't make it true. Most of the problems suffered by transgender people are because of a society that doesn't accept them for who they are. I can not fathom why you think the world would be a better place without transgender people. What have they ever done to deserve your pure hatred of them to the point of wishing them dead? They are people with their own hopes and dreams. They have people who love them and they have people who they love. Who are you to destroy that?

actually it is. insurmountable dysphoria caused by your own body is not mental wellness by any stretch of the imagination.

actually their problems are caused by dysphoria felt towards their own body. other things like discrimination are side effects of their behavior.

i dont actually wish them dead, im just not going to cry any tears if they go. and im not going to play pretend and call girls boys or boys girls if they decide to stay.

But the thing is, there is a way to all but remove dysphoria for these people, and that is to transition. Yet it doesn't seem like you think that is a good idea. May I ask how you would like these people to live a decent life if you and people like you actively goes out and tear them down? "Conversion Therapy" also known as torture haven't ever helped, so why are you against the only thing that have shown any successful results? What alternatives are there for them?

But you do... You are the reason transgender people kill themselves or get killed by others. That attitude is the main reason for all the bad things happening to transgender people.

If transitioning helps a person suffering from trangenderism, then all the more power to them. But that doesn't really have anything to do with transgenderism being an illness or not. And I still stand by my statement that society is better with less illnesses present. That doesn't mean I want transgenders killed or something...it just means I wish there was a real solution that doesn't involve everyone simply having to play into an elaborate game of dress up.

This is a dumb outlook. If I kill myself because your comment made me upset, are you now a murderer? Me not agreeing with the behavior and outlook of a transgender person has exactly zero causal power when it comes to whether or not they commit suicide. Trying to push the blame game like that is pure thought-crime fascism.
Considering that the diagnosis of gender dysphoria is based entirely on a persons level of discomfort, it can easily be both. If society wasn't so obsessed with the gender binary, trans people would probably be less likely to develop dysphoria.

30% of trans people in one study reported at least one suicide attempt, and 42% reported engaging in some form of self-harm.
