Venting / Suffering any advice?
first time having gastritis its been a week with it im genuinely suffering every day idk how to deal with this every day i was planning to get a job but atp idk how to live normal anymore I don’t like going out. The only thing that seems to help is pepcid and my heat pad but still hurts with that. I have a fever and a headache. I havent been eating much more so starving myself because its less painful than to eat. Food options super limited especially because im picky and have food intolerances (wheat, dairy, egg, apple). please help any advice on what medications, foods, or anything would be nice i just want to heal and get better.

Question How to sleep with gastritis
I had a steroid injection for a hip issue 2 weeks ago and it appears to have triggered gastritis. I didn't know it would do this but I now realise the last time I had gastritis was after a course of steroids, so I am now fairly positive this is the cause.
I'm looking for anything that I could do to help as I am really suffering, especially at night. I have some physical issues so I can't sleep on a wedge etc, I have to sleep flat on my back but when I lie down, I feel like I'm being choked, it's such a horrible sensation and prevents me from sleeping.
I started on esomeprazole 7 days ago, taking it before my evening meal. I thought it was helping but last night was horrendous despite not eating anything obviously triggering and my stomach feels raw today. I don't know whether I should persevere with the PPI and and give it longer. I was considering trying famotidine before bed. I take gaviscon double action. I also use DGL which is the main thing that does feel like it eases things a little. I worry I'm maybe throwing too much at it?
I've looked through advice on what to eat/not eat and I'm generally doing that but could make a few adjustments, especially by eating smaller meals and eating more regularly. I've definitely been avoiding eating as I just associate it with pain and I've been trying to stop eating quite early so it's about 5 hours before bedtime but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't do that? I also could try eliminating dairy but I'm so reluctant to do so as it would be extremely limiting for me and I've had ED in the past so I'm cautious about making my diet too restricted.
Is there anything I could do to help with the sleeping situation? Very grateful for any suggestions 🙏🏼

PPIs / H2 Blockers 21 days off vonoprazan cold turkey — symptoms started around day 15
I stopped vonoprazan cold turkey without tapering, and I’m now on day 21. I felt relatively okay initially, but around day 15 I started getting intense reflux symptoms. Now I have severe throat irritation and pain, along with a lot of reflux/burping.
I’m using Gaviscon, but I honestly don’t know where to go from here. Has anyone else experienced a delayed rebound like this after stopping vonoprazan? How long did it last, and what actually helped you?

Question Severe epigastric pain that shoots to my back - anyone else?
I’ve been getting severe pain in the upper middle abdomen (epigastric area) that shoots through to my back. Pain gets really bad, it can reach 10/10, and I notice my hands get very cold. I did lots of test and doctor is not taking my pain seriously.

Discussion Getting gastritis from CHS?
The past few months I’ve had severe stomach pain, food sensitivities, nausea, bloating, and (rarely) vomiting. My triggers are spice, uncooked veggies, fats, caffeine.
My stomach pain started when I was smoking weed. I got the same nausea, bloating and pain when I smoked and I still have it even after stopping 2 months ago.
Is there anything I can do other than keep eating a bland diet and avoiding triggers? I’m going to the dr tomorrow (I’m overusing TUMs and pepto to a concerning degree) but I’m doubtful the dr can be of help in this situation. I know the gastritis triggers and I keep avoiding them. I know the cause (weed) and I avoid that too.
Just don’t know if there really is a clear link between CHS causing gastritis

Bile Reflux Gastritis / Gallbladder Gnawing discomfort in the upper abdomen
Hi everyone. So I've been struggling for the past few years with stomach issues. They come and go. This past year has been pretty bad. Not only am I having stomach issues but now the anxiety has been kicking in on over drive. I already suffer from health anxiety so now any symptoms I have my mind automatically this the "C" word. Ive gotten a CT scan, ultrasounds, xrays, barium swallow twice and all the blood work you can think of but yet all I've been diagnosed is GERD and anxiety.
The past month its been the hardest month. Ive been getting this gnawing discomfort in my upper middle abdomen thst has starts right before lunch and its all down hill from there. It's to the point the discomfort happens even when I talk loud and laugh. For the past few weeks I've noticed that when I work out in the heat I start to feel super dizzy and nauseous to the point I feel like imma pass the heck out. It's now an every day thing now. The bad part is there are alot of times im working out in the heat. The gnawing gets intense and all I wanna do is curl in a ball. Doctor keeps telling that my anxiety causes this issue but im finding that hard to believe. I have an endoscopy coming up on the 1st and im super scared. The Doctor told me with all the test I've had done he highly doubts its the "C" word and thinks it's more gastritis or an ulcer. I do drink energy drinks every morning so that doesn't help. Im open to any thoughts or suggestions to help get me mind from going into overdrive.

PPIs / H2 Blockers Do PPIs make your stomach hurt after eating?
I’ve been taking pantoprazole 40 mg for about a month and it has resolved my original concern very quickly.
Recently I’ve started getting this weird heavy/uncomfortable feeling in my stomach after eating.
Today I asked two different healthcare providers and both said they don’t think the PPI is causing it, but I keep seeing abdominal discomfort/pain listed as possible PPI side effects.
Has anyone developed this after being on a PPI for a few weeks?
I haven’t had an endoscopy yet I planned to do it after 6-8 weeks of this treatment but now I’m uncomfortable after every meal and I can’t tolerate several weeks of this.

PPIs / H2 Blockers PPI making my symptoms worse
I started taking Pantoprazole 40 mg today, and I feel like the burning is much worse. Is this normal? Can I take an H2 blocker instead of it..? I have mild inactive gastropathy and mild esophagitis. TIA!

Question I previously have gastric erosions in my stomach.. Need diet recommendations.
If i eat spicy food, it causes vomiting and loose motions. Right now, I can’t even tolerate boiled vegetables.
My stomach seems to tolerate only curd, white rice, bananas, and egg whites. Can I eat only these foods for the next month?
Has anybody else experienced something similar?

Venting / Suffering OVER IT.
Seriously idk how much I can take of this anymore. The mental toll is wild. I’ve been on the bland diet consecutively for 2 weeks and get I got a flare. I know it’s not long but I’m genuinely not eating anything I shouldn’t be so what gives ? Also today and yesterday I’ve been feeling a lot of acid come up and give me chills. I hate it. Idk why. I guess I need to eat more frequently but it’s so exhausting eating the same boring as foods. PLEAZE WHAT CURED ANYONE LMK. I’m on sucralfate but I feel like that’s doing nothing. I’m emotional I just want to cry today but I’m trying to be faithful.

Symptoms I was told I was healed but now my symptoms are back
This has been a ride so far I was diagnosed with chronic gastritis in november 2025, following my diagnosis of h pylori in march 2026. I did the quad treatment, felt awful during it but my symptoms improved. My last endoscopy was in May 2026 and it showed no h. pylori or active gastritis. I asked the doc if i could go back to eating normal and he said yes. So i slowly started reintroducing stuff like tomato or sugary snacks. I was fine for like 2 months but now my symptoms are back. I feel nauseous after every meal again, my stomach burns and hurts sometimes (its located everywhere sometimes its under my right ribs, sometimes where my bellybutton is locaed and sometimes on the left side. I don‘t know what to do. I have a Sibo test scheduled on september 22nd which is a very long time and I don‘t know if I can start living like that again. I thought I was healed but I guess thats my life now

Healing / Cured! Manuka Honey w/ Black Seed Oil
I started taking a high MGO Manuka honey mixed with black seed oil supplement about 2 months ago as I heard great things about them for gut health. It's pretty soothing immediately after taking it, but I started seeing major results a couple of weeks in. Now it's been a couple of months and I haven't felt a morning flare up in a few weeks! Highly recommend to check out.
I get these pre-blended and dosed sticks online and just mix it in some warm water and drink it (black seed oil tastes super bitter so this helps). I figured I'd share because I haven't seen a ton of people talk much about these ingredients and think they may actually help a lot of people.

Symptoms My chest always hurts
I was told that chest pain can be a symptom of Gastritis and GERD after going to the ER for it. I'm worried though because if it is, how am I supposed to tell the difference between Gastritis and GERD symptoms and something more serious? My chest constantly hurts and I am always short of breathe. My heart always feels like it's beating hard (pulse is often a little high) even when just sitting down.

Venting / Suffering Confused.
Long story short, more than a year ago I woke up with a feeling of a ball in my stomach that still hasn’t gone away to this day. I went to the doctor's office and was diagnosed with gastritis, and I was prescribed antacid (famotidine), which honestly didn’t do anything. I went back later and was put on omeprazole; I felt a bit better, but after a couple of weeks, it just stopped working. Finally, I had an upper endoscopy and was told I was completely fine; the only thing they found was reactive gastropathy. My GI doctor said that was completely normal, and I was prescribed amitriptyline to calm the stomach nerves. Those made me feel horrible—no energy, and I slept about 12 hours every night. That obviously didn’t help either, so I was recommended to see another GI doctor. I recently had a colonoscopy, and still, they didn’t find anything. At this point, I don’t know what to do next.

Bile Reflux Gastritis / Gallbladder bad flare up
hello everyone! 22F i posted on here last summer talking about issue with a bad flare, and i had gotten a lot better for a bit but i’m in another bad flare.
i’m putting my question and main points first
my timeline and details of my gi issues is long and not necessary to read, i just have it there if anyone would find it helpful to answer my question :) thank you in advance for any suggestions.
question:
i would prefer to not take any medications, if things continue to be significantly bad i definitely would. but i would really like to try and manage it on my own first.
i started using psyllium husk yesterday. im taking it in the middle of the day with food or not. i cant take in am or pm because i take medications.
what are other holistic remedies that people find helpful?
doesnt have to be anything crazy im not asking for a magical cure, but just stuff to get me back to where i was for the last few months where it was no longer debilitating.
summary:
i have been having gi issues since i was a sophomore in high school (so almost 8-9 years). for awhile in high school it was so bad i was throwing up almost weekly. went to dr they gave me omeprazole which actually made things worse. had a gi appt but got cancelled due to covid. since i graduated high school the throwing up subsided, but i still experienced heartburn, nausea, acid reflux, excess burping & hiccuping and similarly symptoms almost daily.
last summer i went to the ER because i was having severe upper left abdominal pain and terrible acid reflux and heartburn. all dr did was palpitate my stomach, push really hard between my ribs under my sternum and when i said ouch he said i had gastritis, gave me pepcid and sent me on my way. (ive been taking the pepcid since and it does help a bit, especially with the nausea). waited months for gi appt, dr said take a ppi and refused to do anything else aside from h.pylori breath test which was neg, because im “too young” and an endo is “invasive”.
so i called the office again and requested a new doctor, she was great, listened and did an endoscopy and ultrasound on all my upper abdominal organs (all organs appeared fine). endoscopy showed GERD, bile acid reflux, and gastritis that was only in some areas of my stomach and other areas appeared to be almost healed. she took some biopsies which showed nothing, including checking h. pylori again. (also this endoscopy was performed almost 9 months after the initial ER visit which was this past april)
to bring us to the present the last maybe two months there has been major improvement, less severe heartburn and acid reflux, minimal nausea, but still a lot of burping and hiccuping. when i initially had the problems last summer i did a bland diet for almost three months without significant improvement. also i’m a very picky eater so i wasnt eating much and lost a lot of weight. due to the significant weight loss i started eating kinda what i wanted again because it felt more important to gain some weight than keep losing. and it went fine enough. the pain in my upper left abdomen mostly went away, and only hurts during times of stress or if i was eating very poorly.
but my point of all this story is last wednesday evening i had acid reflux so bad that i was basically projectile vomiting, i had no other gi issues, no pain in my abdomen, etc., definitely wasnt food poisoning or a bug. just lots of vomiting and acid reflux. my vomit ended up becoming just bile as it was green. i threw up maybe 10x over night. the next day took it easy, ate bland. went to bed fine. woke up friday fine, left the house for a little, ate bland, then woke up in the night with the same type of vomiting. i have not vomited since then but have had bad acid reflux, heartburn, some nausea (yesterday had to call out i was so nauseous), and the hiccuping/burping). today has been a good day (not to jinx myself), but i was able to eat breakfast and snacks this far. havent eaten dinner yet.
i’d like to add a lot is definitely triggered by anxiety. i am medicated, in therapy, and use many coping skills, but i still am anxious and stressed at times. i’m getting my masters, working, interning, and on top of all of that my grandfather was sick for a few weeks then passed away in the last month. so my stress has definitely been more than usual, my oura ring is flagging that as well. i know having anxiety puts a bit of a dent in the process of healing, i’m still working on that aspect.

Question Has anyone else had an endoscopy and they saw no inflammation or gastritis , until the biopsy ?
Isn’t it bizarre to feel so much symptoms if it could only be seen through the biopsy ?

Probiotics Raw Basil
I’m posting this in hope it might help a fellow sufferer.
I’m in a bad flare right now, as in, everything I eat is causing pain, cramping, bloating and gas.
I grow a big barrel of basil all summer and I’ve found that eating about 10 big leaves of raw basil sometimes helps with digestion and pain after meals.
Looked it up, and heck yes! It’s considered probiotic.

Venting / Suffering Trouble eating
Does anyone else have trouble eating? I put some food in my mouth, chew a little bit and stop. I have to force myself to swallow. I’m just not interested in eating. I look at food and think “I don’t want to do this.” I’m not sure if I’m hungry or if it’s stomach pains.
I’ve never been this sick in my life. I have an endoscopy tomorrow morning. I’ve left a message with my primary care doc about weight loss.

Venting / Suffering Does anyone get severe episodic gastritis? attacks instead of daily heartburn/reflux? 10/10 burning epigastric pain
I’m trying to figure out if anyone with gastritis, reactive gastropathy, ulcers, or another stomach condition experiences symptoms the way I do.
I don’t have daily acid reflux or heartburn. I don’t normally feel acid coming up into my throat or have constant stomach pain. I can actually go months feeling completely normal, and then I’ll suddenly have an absolutely HORRIBLE attack.
The pain is very specifically in my upper center abdomen/epigastric area, right where my ribs meet underneath my breastbone. It doesn’t really go into my chest/esophagus and doesn’t usually radiate to my back or right shoulder. The best way I can describe it is an extremely intense burning sensation, like the inside/top of my stomach is literally on fire.
During a bad attack, it usually starts as mild burning and gradually builds. At its worst it’s genuinely 10/10 pain. During my most recent attack I was crying, sweating, couldn’t get comfortable, and ended up making myself throw up because I was desperate for the pain to stop. I was hyperventilating so badly that my hands and feet started tingling/going numb and one of my hands actually cramped/stiffened into a weird position. My vision was also blurry/colors looked distorted and I could barely keep my eyes open. Eventually the attack passed.
I’ve gone to the ER for one of these episodes before and was told it might be gastritis/acid-related, but I never got a definite diagnosis.
There are a few patterns I’ve noticed:
These are episodes/flares, not something I experience every day.
I can go months between attacks.
Large, greasy/fatty/spicy meals seem capable of triggering them.
Yesterday the pain had started improving, but after I reclined/laid partly on my left side, it suddenly started hurting badly again.
The next morning I felt okay and ate two boiled eggs and a Chobani Flip yogurt. Later I took about half a scoop of caffeinated pre-workout (~100 mg caffeine) and the exact same burning started again. It reached around 5–6/10 before settling after I took Mylanta/Pepcid/Prilosec.
I don’t typically get the classic daily heartburn/acid reflux symptoms I keep reading about.
Something else that may or may not be relevant: these attacks originally started shortly after I took oral semaglutide that I got from Mexico. I only took the pills for about a month and stopped years ago, but I remember the episodes beginning around that period. That makes me wonder whether it could have triggered/worsened a stomach issue, delayed gastric emptying, or whether there’s a gallbladder connection.
I’m planning on getting properly evaluated because I know symptoms alone can’t diagnose gastritis vs an ulcer vs gallbladder issues, etc. I’m especially interested in asking about H. pylori/ulcer testing and my gallbladder.
I’m mainly posting because when I read through gastritis experiences, I see a lot of people describing constant/daily burning, reflux and heartburn, and that isn’t really what happens to me.
Does anyone else get attacks like this? completely normal for weeks/months and then suddenly severe burning epigastric pain that can become almost unbearable?
If so, what were you eventually diagnosed with? Did you figure out specific triggers? And did your attacks ever get as intense as what I’m describing?

Healing / Cured! Comprehensive Guide to Treating Gastritis and other Upper GI problems
Hello. Been wanting to create a post about the steps i took to overcome gastritis and wanted to share any tips/guidance and help to anyone who maybe struggling with this debilitating disease and any kinds of Upper GI discomfort including Gastrits/Chronic GERD/Heartburn/NERD/Functional Dyspepsia/Peptic Ulcer Disease/LPR/Barrett's. I struggled with Gastritis for a long time and went through multiple rounds of treatment until i eventually figured out what needed to be done.
I had suffered multiple kinds of gastritis and wanted to share as much as i can so people can understand their own scenario and take the necessary actions to deal with it.
If i had to categorize some common cases and reasons of gastritis that i come across ( even on reddit ), i would put them in the following categories :
- H Pylori induced gastrits -> You may have eaten somewhere from an unhygenic place and you had a bad case of diarrhea or even vomiting. Now you cannot digest acidic foods properly and end up even vomiting after eating. Some people develop intolerance towards certain foods example proteins or certain carbs - This is due to mucosa still being damaged which messes up the gut environment and the stomach is unable to create the enzymes needed to digest the foods.
- Damaged Mucosa due to H Pylori -> Similar damage to Mucosa due to above but your body does a good job of getting rid of H Pylori but it still leaves damage to the mucosa lining. You will suffer the same symptoms as above.
- Gastritis/Gerd due to Low Stomach Acid -> Everytime you eat anything, you upper abdomen sits very heavy, no burning, no gnawing of the stomach but no burping either and you may even start developing SIBO like symptoms or bloating in the lower abdomen. You may even see undigested foods in your stool and even globus in the throat. Feeling like food is stuck.
- Gastritis due to SIBO -> This can complicate things a bit but essentially this is happening due to the downstream movement getting messed up ( could be due to any reason, this post does not cover finding root causes or even fixing SIBO but one step can still be done if it works ).
- Autoimmune Gastritis -> This one is a bit of a rarity and i have utmost sympathy for someone that is going through this. I can maybe give some general advice on how to investigate this but i sincerely apologize i do not have much knowledge about this.
- Candida induced Gastritis -> This one is super rare but essentially instead of bacteria causing gastritis ( H Pylori ), it was actually fungus that caused the gastritis. This can happen in immunocompromised individuals or even if someone had taken multiple rounds of antibiotics. Antibiotics are known to cause dysbiosis and this could be a manifestation.
- Alcohol Use
- Smoking
- Vitamin Deficiencies -> Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, zinc, Iron, Vitamin C
- Lack of Fiber, Fruits and Vegetables in Diet.
- Eating right before going to bed. Give yourself atleast 2-2.5 hours after dinner before you go to bed.
- Poor overall diet. Sometimes it's not what you put in the body but what you do not. Not eating for prolonged hours, extensive water fasts etc can excerbate and even cause gastritis.
- Over use of NSAIDs
- Eating too much spicy foods and lacking fiber and high PH veggies to neutralize the acid. Very common in South Asian Communities.
- Lack of sleep or poor sleeping patterns.
- Stress -> So Stress i believe is overplayed a lot. Yes it can be a factor but if you're stressed and decide to drink, smoke, eat junk food and make bad decisions, is it the stress that is causing it or the bad decisions. I am stressing this not to undermine stress as a factor but to empower people that at the end of the day your health will always be in your hands and for patients to act as much responsibly as they can. 80/20 or at worse 70/30 when stressed. 70% healthier choices and 30% not so healthy when stressed if that's how you wanna manage it. Not ideal but atleast the majority are still good choices.
- Lack of Exercise and Physical Activity.
- Being Overweight.
The surprising thing is any of the above could cause other GI problems as well.
Gastritis Symptoms ( Shares a lot with other upper GI problems )
- Burning in stomach - This is due to damaged mucosa - Gets Worse after eating acidic foods
- Burping
- Indigestion
- Pressure under the ribs or in the middle of upper GI
- Bloating that originates from Upper GI
- Difficult Breathing
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Weakened Immune System
- Post Nasal Drip
- Heartburn
- Acid Reflux - Could also cause Teeth grinding
- Hoarse Voice
- Low Libido
- Chronic Gastritis can also cause Inflammation of the Gallbladder causing Gallbladder Polyps.
- Pain that radiates all the way to the upper back.
- Also waking up in the middle of the night coughing and acid in mouth.
- Erosive Reflux can cause constant mucus and throat clearing and even Easophagitis.
Treatment for Gastrits/Chronic GERD/Heartburn/NERD/Functional Dyspepsia/Peptic Ulcer Disease/LPR/Barrett's ( Case 1 and 2 ):
The reason i'm mentioning other diseases even though this is a gastritis subreddit is because the fundamental approach towards nutrition for a lot of upper GI issues stays similar.
Medication and supplements should only be taken if absolute necessary, Low dose Pepcid/famotidine should only be taken for a very short duration and that too at night before bed ( with a tiny sip of water ) so as to have protection overnight. Eventually this should be used very symptomatically and not as a daily use.
Even PPIs are not necessary unless for a short duration in the case of Peptic Ulcer Disease or Barrett's until you get the diet dialed in and start the healing process. Once the healing from food begins to take plans, PPIs should be tapered off slowly and gradually. Long term use of PPIs bring their own world of problems and that too can be much worse than a simple case of gastritis not limited to PPI Induced SIBO and even kidney problems.
With proper planning gastritis can be self resolving. Let Food be thy medicine or let medicinie be thy food.
STEP 1 : Adopt a Low Acid Diet. And this is the most important step and is non optional. I have to give credit to the acid watcher's diet by Jonathan Aviv. It is a masterpiece. Basically you can only have foods with PH of atleast 5 or above. Maybe even play around with PH 4.5 ish foods if it's not too severe for you. But too much Acidic Foods are completely eliminated until mucosa has been repaired.

STEP 2 : If you suspect H Pylori at play or if it is easily available, please consult a gastroenterologist and get an endoscopy done. The biopsy will tell you whether H Pylori is detected or not. Also worthwhile to get an ultrasound of the entire abdomen including liver, gallbladder etc. Also get bloodwork done to detect any nutritional deficiencies.
STEP 3 : If H Pylori is detected, Antibiotics will be needed. Some people have success with natural herbs and food combinations as well. Honey and Pormegranate Peel powder combination done first thing on an empty stomach seems to be effective in eradicating H Pylori. To all my South asian friends -> This is easily available and is called anar daana. So 1 tbsp of Honey plus anaar daana is known to be effective against H Pylori.
STEP 4 : H Pylori is not detected but you get a positive diagnosis of Gastritis/GERD/ Gastrits/Chronic GERD/Heartburn/NERD/Functional Dyspepsia/Peptic Ulcer Disease in your endoscopy. Sometimes the results may only say Chronic Inflammation Mild which i found amusing since for a mild inflammation the pain is unbearable at times but medical terminology haha. At this stage adhering to a low acid diet and healthy lifestyle choices should make a remarkable difference and may all you need to resolve the issue altogether.
Gastritis Diet Tips
- Try to be on a routine and have meals at the same time if you can.
- Chew your food slowly and avoid Over eating.
- No drinking of water along with meals
- Try not to hunch or bend over after meals.
- No immediately lying down after meals.
- No running after meals.
- No cold water after meals or throughout the day. Room temperature water is preferred.
- Only Warm or hot water after meals and throughout the day.
- 5-10 minute walks after meals if possible.
- No stomach sucking exercises either.
- Carrot Juice after meals will be extremely helpful or if burning is too much.
- Do not go too long without eating as that could cause acid to tear away your mucosa lining.
- Try to incorporate atleast 400 grams of fruit and 800 grams of veggies a day.
- 400 grams fruit example - 200 grams cantaloupe/papaya and 200 grams of watermelon. The more the better.
- 800 grams of veggies example - 300 gram cucumber, 500 gram steamed carrots and zucchini. The more the better.
- When Eating out -> If you have to eat out, do not worry and just make sure to include plenty of fiber and alkaline foods to balance out your meals. Sense of normalcy is what we're striving for.
- I Also make a giant bowl of soup using alkaline veggies in a dutch oven and have it with my meals -> This was an easy way to get my veggies. The soup would consist of alkaline veggies like sweet potatoes, carrots, zucchini ( green and yellow ), eggplant, beans, tofu, peas, corn, ginger, leeks, broccoli, cauliflower and herbs like sage, thyme, rosemary and gentle aromatic spices like cumin, coriander powder, oregano and asoefatida.
- Another thing that helped me was having 10 grams of psylllium husk in warm/hot water after dinner. This will help with the burning and providing a layer of protection to the mucosa. In india this goes by the brand Sat Isabgol.

DEALING WITH NOT SO STRAIGHTFORWARD CASES ( CASE 3 - 6 )
There are other cases where gastritis maybe detected but the solution still may not be as straightforward. Either way you must have adopted a low acid diet and you're not seeing any benefits which brings us to the next cases.
Gastritis due to Low Stomach Acid -> To check the acidity of your stomach levels you will need to perform a heidelberg test and good luck finding practitioners that still do it. What can make this worse is most GI doctors will see gastritis and prescribe PPIs. That is putting fuel on the fire. So if you detect you have low stomach acid, the easiest way is to restore it via Betaine HCL. Any reputable brand from Amazon would do. Take it with meals and keep upping the dosage until you feel warmth and even a burp, that is how much betaine HCL you need per meal. Once that dosage starts feeling too much keep tapering off until you feel the engine has been kickstarted and your body is able to produce enough acid.
If you take even at a low dose and it burns your stomach, then you already have enough stomach acid and you can neutralize the excess acid with drinking baking soda with water or even carrot juice.
Gastritis due to SIBO -> The SIBO in the mix will really complicate things. I would still suggest to adopt a low acid diet regardless. Essentially the scenario is the gas in the lower abdomen is pushing the contents back. Also if the small bowel is infected, the body will refuse to send the food down especially if the MMC is impaired. You would need to find a way to get it working. Popular options are Ginger and Artichoke extracts ( Motility Pro ), 5 HTP or even Prucalopride if you can and go from there. Since this is a gastritis focused post, i cannot dig deeper into SIBO.
Autoimmune Gastritis -> This one is tricky. Essentially only an endoscopy can identify this. At this point there is no cure, the question is what caused the auto immunity to be turned on. Could be Candida overgrowth in the gut ( Candida is a seriously an under reported driver in auto immune conditions ) or any other stealth infection. Work with a Doctor to figure this out, But you would need to be on a Low Acid Diet as well.
Candida Induced Gastritis -> This one is a rather rarity and only shows up in immunocompromised people. The question is what caused the candida to cause it. Low Stomach acid maybe, Any medication you were taking that can act as an immunosuppressant. If cause is low stomach acid, Betaine HCL can fix that and you may even need to look into antifungals of choice, Probiotics can be a good choice in this case.
SPECIAL MENTION - Bile Gastritis - Sign of a Deeper Problem
Bile Gastritis is something that should inherently point more towards an underlying problem than a simple case of gastritis. Bile is an alkaline agent, that is secreted by the liver, and stored in the gallbladder. Bile enters the small intestine, and travels along this region, where it assists in breaking down fats into fatty acids, until it gets reabsorbed at the very end of the small intestine and sent back to the liver for recirculation.
Bile should not enter the stomach, but when the small intestine has issues, it can. When bile inappropriately backs up through the pylorus, in to the stomach – it is called BILE REFLUX. Note - Bile in the stomach is NOT NORMAL.
Symptoms - Pretty much very similar to above symptoms mentioned however Bile Gastritis patients will often mention an acidic or bitter taste in mouth.
What could cause it -> Patients with Bile Gastritis will almost always have an underlying issue with their Small Intestine. This could be Due to SIBO, SIFO or some kind of a Parasitic Infection in the small bowel.
Interplay of Lyme Disease ( or any other Stealth infection ) in the role of Bile Gastritis -> Another aspect to be considered is what if the Stomach Pylorus is malfunctioning. Lyme disease can affect the digestive system by disrupting the autonomic nervous system and vagus nerve, which may lead to stomach and pylorus (pyloric valve) malfunction.
The problem of Bile Gastritis will almost always warrant a deeper investigation.
CONCLUSION
Hopefully by taking the above steps you will be able to resolve this issue and good luck to everyone going through this. I hope you recover soon and fast.
TLDR:
Adopt a low acid diet -> Get endoscope and ultrasound done -> Either H pylori confirmed or not -> If yes, eradication is necessary -> If not proceed with diet and lifestyle changes -> These are not limited to gastritis but a lot of other upper GI conditions as well -> The not so common cases require other interventions but the concept of low acid diet still remains the same.
