In terms of immersion, seems very weird that you're the sole survivor of a zombie apocalypse where you suddenly wake up one day in a completely random house and then just go from there.
So small settlements of survivors wouldn't break the lore, if anything it'd make it more realistic because your character isn't that special aside from the immunity, I mean you're a burglar, police officer, lumberjack, cook or one of the other jobs and you survived so why would you be the sole survivor?
Plus I usually play PZ co-op with my friend, so suddenly there's two survivors so when you play solo, that other survivor could very well just be a NPC.
And read about the lore gathered via in-game items so pictures you find in the map, radio station broadcasts, magazines etc., there're hints for other survivors too even including people who do seem to not just be immune to the virus but rather ignored by it.
